Tool Bar
Hi, I'm wondering if Fat Secret has a toolbar. I think it would be a great addition. I have seen them on other diet sites and even downloaded one. I like it pretty well, but I keep coming back to Fat Secret, because it has more food info and recipes.
If there is one and I am just overlooking it, could someone direct me to it. Thanks

Adkins and cholesterol--Help
Hi, I'm sorry that I haven't replied for a while, but the last ten months have been a roller coaster ride. I tried very hard to get my cholesterol under control on my own. I upped my fish oil, added promise active, gave up cheese, ate less red meat, more fish and chicken, went from low carb milk to heart healthy soy milk, nuts and forzen blueberries are now my snack in place of a big spoon of cool whip.Exercised every day, every day.
And at first I was really just afraid to eat anything, but it all seemed to be working, I got my numbers down to 240 and I started eating again, healthy , as I just wrote.
Then I went on a four day trip, and relaxed just a little. I really didn't think I had done so bad, the only thing I regreted was a steak I ate on the second day. Had a drs. appt. about a week after I came home, got my cholesterol checked and it had gone up 20 points to 260. So I got real strick with myself again and got back to 250, then came the holidays, back to 270. And thats how it has been, up and down.
The doctor told me it was probably inherited, but neither of my parents had this problem. A nurse who took my blood said they see this often in women of menopause age, who are otherwise healthy. I don't know what causes it, but I have had to finally admit to myself that I cannot get it down and keep it down on my own.
It was very difficult for me to do that. I decided to try the meds, a friend said she started taking them daily and then every other day and now every third day and it works for her. She doesn't even watch her diet very well, which I certainly intend to continue doing.
Every time I opened the bottle of pills I would almost cry, I have always thought of myself as so healthy. It was almost 2 months after I decided to take the meds that I took the first pill. That was a month and a half ago. I have to go and my cholesterol measured in 2 weeks. I will let you know.
This is about more than being thin for me, I haave 8 grandkids and a greatgrandson who I love dearly, I want to be there for them as long as possible. That has given me a lot of strenght and determination.
Thanks to everyone who answered my post, it really helped knowing you cared enough to take the time.

Adkins and cholesterol--Help
Hello again. The thing is I don't eat a lot of red meat, but I do eat a lot of cheese.I eat bacon about twice a month. I plan to check out a lot of new items in the supermarket, I have heard of Promise margarine and I will check out these shots. I don't know if I could ever be a vegetarian, I just like meat, cheese and low carb milk, thats one of the reasons I could stick to Adkins.I eat a lot of nuts and seeds, and I do eat fruits and vegetables.
Also I said Cool Whip had trans fats and I think I meant saturated fats. Those are the ones that are bad. Right? Cheese has a lot of that and I always go to cheese when I am hungry

Adkins and cholesterol--Help
Thank you so much for your replies. I have to see my doctor again in 2 months. I am going to try and get my cholesterol down on my own. I have been reading a lot like you suggested and found out a lot of useful info on natural supplements, fish oil, garlic, even flax seed and read a lot about trans fats. I am going to go over my diet with a fine tooth comb and see which things are doing me more harm than good. Already found one, Cool Whip has a lot of trans fats and it is my one sin and I eat a lot of it, no more.
I am going to have this checked again in a month and see if I have made any progress. Then I will decide on how to go from there. I have two many reasons to stay healthy, 8 grandkids and 1 great grandchild.
Again thanks and if anyone else has any advice please let me know.

Adkins and cholesterol--Help
Hi I have used Adkins for nearly 30 years, I am 55, and have controlled my weight successfully for most of my life. I started when I was 25 and though I didn't follow the plan faithfully I followed the basic principle, No flour, No sugar, etc. I have always been very healthy and most people think I am naturally thin. Ha.Ha.
I have never had any problems, until now. I went for a check up and my doctor tells me I have high cholesterol, total about 280. He wants to put me on medication. I have never had to take any type of medication and I don't want to start, I have seen friends who start taking one med and they just keep taking more. They stick to old habits and just get sicker. The doctor gives them more meds and they think that is okay. I want to try and do it with diet and exercise. That's another thing, I exercise more than anyone I know, but I know I don't exercise enough.
If I stop doing Adkins my weight will shoot straight up, I don't know anything else. I can't remember the last time I had a slice of bread. I don't even buy it.
Can someone please help me. If you have been in this situation or know how I should go forward, please answer this.
I am determined to exercise every day and try to figure out what I can do with my diet. I want to stick to Adkins, gaining weight can not be good for me, I feel lost. HELP
