I'm 55. I've done Atkins before and it worked well, but wanted more variety of foods...then life did crazy stuff, and I ate my way back up. Now I want to figure out how to make this work for life so it doesn't happen again. I believe I need a spiritual renewal along with a food plan, and I'm trying to work on that as well. I would love some buddies for my journey!

question about weighing meat
I am trying to enter my ground beef into my food record. I know the fat content, it's 93/7. But I'm confused how to weigh it. Are the entries listed for raw, uncooked meat unless it specifies "cooked"?

Fat Fast
Congrats, Rogerlexx! It sure feels nice, doesn't it?! Hopefully this will get your system "in the groove" of losing, and when you return to Atkins it will continue. I think someone told me your weight sometimes goes up just a bit after you get off the fast, but I could be wrong. Atkins, and related research, has sure changed my view of eating fats!

Sugar
Amen!! For me, the sugar addiction is real. It even extends to healthy sugar, like in fruits. It just sets up a craving in me that I can't ignore. Eliminating it completely is the only way for me. I had to eliminate white flour, too. It takes about 2 weeks to eliminate the bulk of the cravings. During that time, I eat as much "other" food as I need to, in order to stay away from the sugar. Once the cravings subside, I can start to look at reducing calories or eating healthier. But if those cravings stay, I can't think sanely about food.

I dont think anyone who isn't a sugar addict will understand or believe the addiction, just like non-alcoholics will never understand the battle alcoholics face. None of our bodies are the same, and just because mine acts one way doesn't mean it's right or wrong, or that yours will act the same. YMMV (your mileage may vary) is something everyone here should keep in mind!

Monmill, the last 2 times I started Atkins I didn't lose a thing the first 2 weeks! You are doing great, keep it up! I think you are right about the surgery. If we don't change our eating habits, the weight will come right back. Read up on fat/protein/carb percentages. Feel free to buddy me. We are all in this together.

Lovergirl, thanks for posting that you'd lost 50 lbs since starting this thread. It's a good reminder that this WILL work if we just keep at it. I've been on the couch all day yesterday and today with a fever. Wondering how this will affect my ketosis? I was doing great until this hit. Now, of course, I haven't eated much the last 2 days, and no exercise. Will my body go into starvation mode? Or will I just pick up where I left off, with my body turning to body fat for fuel? Any guesses?
