Started Atkins on March 16, 2009. I try to stick to organics and whole foods.

I am an undiagnosed Celiac, so gluten-free is the way I roll (dork!). :O)

I'm absolutely adoring the way I feel now that I've changed the way I eat, let alone the way I think about food. I can hardly wait to see what happens in the coming months and years. I recognize that this is my new way of life, not just a diet I'm on until I lose the weight. In fact, although I have a goal weight in mind, I'm not even sure how my body is going to react to this long-term. So when I get there, I trust my body will tell me. It tends to do that.

UPDATE: June 9, 2015
Currently eating lots of GOOD fats (butter, coconut oil, olive oil, tallow, lard), moderate protein (beef, chicken, trying to increase fish), lots of veggies, drinking green tea (attempting to wean off of coffee due to adrenal issues) - aiming for whole foods, no processed anything.
Added daily supplements: fish oil (3200mg), multivitamin/mineral, Mg (750mg), [rhodiola & Relora/Bacopa-specific to adrenal issues], Vitamin D (10,000 IU), Lysine (500mg).
Vitamin C mega-doses as needed when I feel something coming on.

Basically anti-inflammatory because research is proving that chronic low-grade inflammation is what leads to pretty much every single disease or dysfunction out there. I'm going to deflame as much as I can so I can live a quality life. The current state of medicine prioritizes quantity over quality and I find that to be

UPDATE, Sept 18, 2015: Diagnosis of SIBO based on clinical presentation. On Integrated Therapeutics Para-Gard (which is also the name of an IUD, so I giggle inside when I say or write that) and the Blood Type Diet. I've been on so many different restricted diets that I'm completely confused at this point. I'm also back to low-carb (*Atkins Intro right now)which should also help with bacterial overgrowth if it's there.

Calories Per Day
Ketosis does no harm. Simply signifies that your body is burning fat for fuel.

Ketoacidosis *is* harmful. They are two very different states.

As far as calories needed, new research is showing that not all calories are equal and that it takes more energy (calories = energy) to burn fat than to burn sugars. I recommend reading the chapters on all the details of metabolism is the 2002 version of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, then refer to the studies he cited if you want more info.

Difference between toatl carbs and net carbs???
Total carbs is, well, total carbs. Very Happy Net carbs is what you watch on Atkins, and that is total carbs minus total fiber. Eat more fiber, you get more carbs. You should pick up a copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 version. It clarifies EVERYTHING you will ever need to know about eating this way for a lifetime. Smile
