Hello FatSecret members. On January 18th 2016 I decided to try intermittent fasting for the 1st time & lost 60 pounds up to date. Recently I been getting compliments on my weight loss, which inspires me to lose more. Last winter my stomach was pushing out 4XL flannel shirts, and now I can wear a regular XL T-Shirt comfortably. Soon I'd like to wear regular large or even medium sized shirts in the months to come. Books I've read would be the T-Factor diet and Atkins. Both books worked for me in there own ways. I once watched a digestion animation & learned how the digestive system breaks down food into usable energy. I also learned how the pancreas secretes the hormones insulin and glucagon to balance out the weight loss, weight gain, or weight maintenance, depending on the diet choices I make. Knowing these things helps me to understand what goes on in the body when I eat. And it also helps me to know what must be done to lose weight. About 6 years ago I weighed in as low as 160 pounds. Then in the year 2013 I was as high as 264 pounds. In the years 2014 through 2015 I maintained about 240 pounds. Currently I am 178 pounds shooting for 160. I been married to my second wife for a over 4 years and have a dog named bear. My interests would be: photography, outdoors, fishing, movies, food, drink, god, music, big trucks, & positive thinking.

Intermittent Fasting

I have been reading a lot about intermittent fasting for weight loss. Many of the points about this type of eating make a lot of sense if true.
Has anyone tried this intermittent fasting?
I first tried eating 5 meals a day and restricting calories with poor results. I then tried the same amount of calories and intermittent fasting and am seeing a 1lb a week weight loss.

Hello RM686. I have been practicing intermittent fasting since January 18 of this year, and lost 60 pounds. If you are seeing a 1 pound per week weight loss, that's good.

Coffee good for weight loss?

I drink coffee everyday, I have to admit that throughout the day I total probably 12 cups, only 2 of which are decaf-those are around bedtime. I heard that coffee kills hunger and cravings-appetite. Boosts metabolism...basically is good for dieting and weight loss. I hope this is true, but I still would be drinking it if it's not!
True? Or false? Anybody know?

XshapeshiftX I've lost 60 pounds this year with the help of drinking coffee as my appetite suppressant. Plus I like drinking different coffees combined with intermittent fasting to lose weight. I've read a few posts from a few FatSecret members over the months about the negative affects of coffee. The benefits for me outweigh the negative. You can also visit nutritiondata.com to learn about whats in the coffee. Or try http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/beverages/3898/2

intermittent fasting
I been intermittent fasting for 6 months and two weeks. I was losing 10 pounds a month for the first 5 months. Then as all the weight came off, my body got technical with me for the amount of calories I was consuming daily. I've been enjoying being under 200 pounds for my height. But I got more to go, I've been coasting for the month of July. I can handle a 16:8, but I like shutting down calories before midnight the day before & eating the majority of my calories about 3:00 PM the next day. I want to buckle down come August 1st & finish what I started.
