I am a 44-year-old woman. As long as I can remember, I have been overweight. I quit smoking 4/8/12, and gained more weight. I had my wellness physical today (8/13/12) and it was not good ... blood panel showing high cholesterol, blood sugar, uric acid. My doctor put me on two prescriptions, one for cholesterol and one for uric acid to prevent gout attacks I've been experiencing this past year. I do not want to travel down the road of needing prescription drugs to keep me alive and not enjoying my quality of life. I must take control of my health, make better food and exercise choices, and realize my goal of quality healthy living!

So Many Dietitians
I have heard all of these responses from the "dietitians" in my life. Another one that bothers me is "don't give up all the foods you enjoy or you will fail." Well, it was stuffing my face with all the foods I enjoy that got me here. And I am finding that I'm not "giving up" anything. I can tweak every recipe I have and make it healthier for me and fit within my "new lifestyle" goals. I think that sometimes friends and family see the success you are having, maybe feel a little jealous or insecure about it, and try to sabotage your progress, whether or not it was intentional. It's sometimes difficult to see others succeed where you perhaps have failed.

Can I record previous meals for a program I'm on?
Hi bzau,
Put your mouse pointer over the calendar icon, which will show the calendar for the month we are in. Check the yesterday box to the right of the calendar and the February calendar will appear. Then just click on the day(s)you want to record.

RDI
I checked the American Heart Association's website. A pound is 3,500 calories, so if I want to lose a pound a week, I need to cut 500 calories a day from my diet (500 x 7 days = 3,500 calories). So I calculated my FS RDI to maintain my weight and it came to 2,600 ... then I selected "lose a pound a week", and sure enough it dropped to 2,100 (500 calories less a day). I want to lose 2 pounds a week, so I'm dropping my RDI to 1,600 calories. Once I increase my activity level, I'll recalculate my RDI using a higher activity level as I will then be burning more calories a day than I am now.
