Hi: My name is Howie. I will have been married to a wonderful gal for 45 years this July. We have 2 married adult children and 4 grandchildren. I am a retired Canadian Armed Forces Sergeant (airforce) after 29 years of service. I have been active for most of my life. We live in the centre of Canada, Winnipeg, Manitoba. For you from the USA, that is just north of North Dakota. We have very cold winters, but beautiful warm summers. We have a slower pace of life than that of the USA and probably less crime. I like it that way. And we do say "A" a lot. About 20 years ago, I started gaining weight and did little about it. It's hard to believe that I actually did some serious running in my younger years. I have been retired from the work force for 7 years now.(I had other careers after the Armed Forces) Three years ago I had a mild heart attack, so I finally decided it is about time to do something about it. I try to walk daily for 40 to 60 minutes at about 3 mph. We all know watching our weight is not easy. For me and my family, our faith in Jesus Christ helps us to be disciplined and have a positive
attitude about life.
Have A GREAT day,
Howie

sore muscles
I was advised by a fitness trainer, regarding weight training, not to work-out on the same muscles everyday. He said, when you work your muscles, you actually injure them slightly, tearing fibers. This is normal and how your muscles are strengthened. But, they need a day to repair themselves and recouperate. And don't forget to stretch gently after exercise. (that means feeling the strain, but not actually causing pain) That advice seems to work for me.

kfc
If your trying to lose weight, stay away from those fast-food places. If you don't believe it's good advice, just ask for a copy of their menus analysis. You will be amazed at the the sodium content & the calorie count. I know it's tough, but stay home and do your own thing.

Adjusting daily calorie intake
Thanks for the info! I started at 1500 calories and remained there. I understand that is the lowest men should go. Maybe, if i'm more active in the evening, I would start thinking less about snacking. Howie 43

Adjusting daily calorie intake
19 April 2010
My weight loss is slow but steady. I average just over 1 lb per week. My biggest problem is eating in the evening. Since we usually eat dinner around 5 to 5:15 pm, it is a long time before we go to bed. I do snack in the evening, but it would be very easy to go over my calorie limit if I didn't choose wisely. I'm not sure if I should adjust my daily calorie intake down as I approach my goal. Any thoughts or advice on that?
