I was about 30-40 lbs overweight for the last 6 years and had been steadily gaining about 5 lbs a year the 10 years before that to get to that point. Before that, I could eat anything I wanted and didn't gain a pound. It's taken me 10 years to really understand how food, emotions and hunger are all interconnected and how to self-regulate so you don't overdo it. I came upon two self affirmations that really gave me that "a-ha" moment that changed my complete outlook and mindset. Since then, I've lost 28 pounds and counting. Those affirmations are:

Why? Because you are trying to better yourself.



Giving up is about losing passion for life and looking at yourself in a "I'll never change, this is who I am" kind of way. What are you talking about? You can be and do anything you want. Don't give up on yourself. Where is the passion and the want to be everything you can?

Secondly. . . working out and dieting is all about "do" and never about "what I want". It's like work. . . I go because I have to, not because I thought it was a fun thing to do with my time. My view of exercise and dieting had to move into a no-choice status like work. Over time, you start to really enjoy and and try all sorts of new things. Keeps life moving and interesting and happier.

I'm excited to see what I have already accomplished with my new better me over the past year and I look forward to what's yet to come for I am still working on it! Don't give up.

How do you lose the last 10 lbs???
johncoloe provided the most helpful information here in my opinion. If I've already lost 30 lbs and am on my last 10 then I obviously have some idea of how to mix up my work out routines and cut calories. What I found most helpful about what he said was the % split between protein, carbs and fat (40/40/20). I had been doing 50/30/20 so I just increased my protein and reduced the carbs and I have seen some results on the scale as a result.

How do you lose the last 10 lbs???
I've been hovering in that last 10 lbs range to my goal weight for a year.

To those who have made it over that hump, any words of advice?

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
Every day, no question. I take the good with the bad and try to adjust during the day.

You just can't take the ups and downs too seriously - but now, via tracking and data, you can figure out what causes gain and what causes loss.

Here are some things I've learned weighing in every day:

If I eat a lot of salt the night before, that is the biggest jump in weight between days.

If I eat a lot of sugar, this is the second highest jump in weight and alcohol, the third. BUT. . . sugar is the hardest to get off once it's on.

I always lose 1-4 lbs after working out.

The patterns help keep you in check - no reason to get depressed - think of it as a tool.

Exercise music - what are you listening to?
I love to run to anything funk - James Brown, Black Eyed Peas, the P-Funk all stars, etc, etc. It gets me motivated to move!
