30 July 2011

I think I need to take a break from here for awhile. If you are taking the time to read my journal lately you know I have made a committment to participate in a pilot program for my employer called Naturally Slim. It is a ten week program that I have committed to and this is just my first week. I am learning as I am going along but I do know that what I have learned this week really makes sense to me and applying the techniques has enabled me to not be hungry, eat whatever foods I want, there are no supplements or special foods, and best of all I am losing weight. I am relearning how to reset my appestat which is what tells my brain when I am hungry and when I am full.

I don't know if I believe in this yet, but I do know that I have had a struggle with my weight for more. A ten week committment is nothing but then again....it could be everything. We all know different things work for different people and I am if nothing else, continuing to educate myself thru this weight loss process.

Now don't get me wrong, I really had intended to participate in the program and continue to journal here about it, but I find that I am too conflicted doing both. I really need to concentrate on my new web buddies in the program specific site who are all on the same path as me and encouraging each other rather than criticising your WOE. I have read everyone's comments in my journals and I do take them to heart but for those who have felt the need to PM me and lambaste me is really something I don't have the precious time for right now.

I think I will continue to post my weight here weekly so that I can keep it on record here for when I come back after the pilot is over with. YES...I do plan to come back, please just give me the 10 weeks. You guys have been sensational and without you all I would not have lost my first 25 lbs. My one year anniversary here is in August and I can assure you that without your encouragement through all of my personal ups and downs this year as well as my physical and mental rejuvination I would never have lasted this long.

Peace out my friends until we "meet" again!
God Bless!!

Week 1 - Day 5

Didn't weigh this am.
Kind of a weird day as I worked from home. I really wanted to tune into my hunger level this morning. I really think I was only eating breakfast out of habit and not really hunger.
So, I waited and waited and didn't get the littlest hunger pang until about 11am. I drank a little H2OJ and it passed. Probably confusing hunger with thirst. About 2pm I was definately hungry as I could feel my grouchiness coming on and DH reminded me I had not eaten yet today.

AAAHHH...so this is what hunger really is! Couldn't take time for a meal. The furniture movers were here as I had alot of furniture from my brothers place moved here today, mostly antiques that he inherited from my grandmother. Mom and dad wanted those to stay in the family and they have no more room so down to us they came. I was happy to receive them but it left me and DH pretty emotional today.
Sorry, I side tracked...so given that going on, I decided to have a hunger saver of 2 peanut butter crackers (you must spend 10 minutes eating them). I was then satisfied and able to holdout until supper tonight, my only true meal of the day.

Supper -
Ate 10-5-13
3/4 sandwich (whole wheat, turkey, roast beef, mayo, tomato, cheese)
5 barley flax chips
1/2 dill pickle spear
1/2 a can of diet dr pepper

I am going to ask the instructor about not eating at least 1200 calories a day and the issue around stalling. Will be interesting to see what their take is on this.

Busy weekend ahead, might not be here much. Sunday is family reunion, folks are flying/driving in from California, Missouri, Kansas, Florida, Virginia, Cape Cod, New York, New Hampshire. Will surely be great to see everyone altogether again. There will be about 70 of us and not even everyone is coming. I love having a large family!

Tomorrow is prep for the party, mani/pedi is the priority in the am. Making fruit salad and a pasta salad. Got the laundry done and house cleaned today.

Needless to say I worked from home today and didn't get too much done. Kinda blue around the office as 5 of my co-workers were laid off on Wednesday, things are starting to wind down for some folks who are "non-essential". We knew this day would be coming so no surprise.

Have a great weekend everyone!

New decade! Week 1-Day 4 I on Naturally Slim and I am 4 lbs down!!!!
I'M IN YELLOW...NEVER BEEN IN YELLOW BEFORE!!!

Breakfast -
mini whole wheat bagel
almond butter
coffee w/non fat half & half

Lunch -
onion rings w/ketchup (ate 5 and gave rest away)
turkey burger w/lettuce, tomato, mayo, grilled onions on kaiser roll (cut in quarters, ate half and gave rest away)

Supper -
half of boneless skinless chicken breast marinated in ranch dressing
romaine salad w/mango, red onion, cucumber, tomato & Newman's organic herb vinagarette dressing

Sipped my H2OJ throughout the day (2 32 oz bottles) and supplemented with water. Re-read my notes and cut this back since 2 bottles is one cup of OJ which is most I should have in one day. The key is slowly sipping this throughout the day.

I read my hunger queues well today and recognized when I was appropriately full to stop eating. I find it is hard having been a member of the "clean your plate club" my whole life to really recognize fullness. I think 10-5-10 to 10-5-15 is about right, of course that all depends on how much DH and I talk through dinner, the more the better as it gives my brain more of a chance to register fullness.

Tomorrow will be different from my normal routine since I work from home and then on weekends my eating patterns are always off. Need to make sure I have hunger savers with me in case Hunger Level 4 rears it's ugly head! Family reunion on Sunday, oh yeah, tons of food will be present. That will be a significant challenge. Next week I am in a training class all week with brkf, lunch and snack being served. I think I will be OK with that.

I really need to try to read my breakfast hunger level better. Not sure if I am really hungry for breakfast or if this is just habit of eating first thing in the morning. Might try to wait it out tomorrow to see how my hunger level changes through the morning.

Gotta run for now, hope you are all well.

So, what do I mean when I say I ate at 10-5-10?

Once you reach between 3 and 3:2 hunger level you commence eating. You eat for 10 minutes chewing very slowly and chewing all over your mouth. Most people shove the food in the back to one side of their mouth, chew twice and then swallow. Not here, you chew all around your mouth including getting the food under your tongue so that the food touches all of your taste buds. Amazing how differently food tastes! Savor the food like a wine taster does wine. Now you eat this way for 10 minutes starting with your favorite food on your plate first.
After the ten minutes are up, you put down your fork and rest for 5 minutes (I usually get up and go pee to burn the 5 minutes).
Commence eating again for AT LEAST another 10 minutes, again eating slowly and chewing until the food is pulp in your mouth.
The reason you are doing this is because it takes your brain 20 minutes to get the signal the you are full. You will tend to over eat if you do not allow your brain to get that message and let you know you have had enough.

Remember, your stomach is only about the size of a loose fist. It holds about 1.5 cups of very well chewed food....that's it!

Now, what is that H2OJ???

H2OJ is just water and orange juice, no magic to it. In a 32 oz bottle put 1/2 c OJ (not from concentrate) and the rest water. You must have at least 2 ten oz glasses a day or as much of it as you want. I am having it for the majority of my water. I drink 4 bottles of it a day and then another bottle of plain water. This does wonders to burn the fat throughout the day. Nice thing is it adds some flavor to otherwise boring water. It also helps to keep the glycemic level on an even keel through out the day.

Now remember folks, I am not counting any calories, macros/micros or doing any fuzzy math here. You will see from my journals I am eating just like I did before because this is how I like to eat and I eat the foods I love.
I think there is definately something to the science behind this, but then again it is only day 3.

Gotta scoot, got work to do over on my NS website. TTFN!
