Hi, Dieting and weight loss is really just a numbers game. Since one pound is 3500 calories, you need to create a deficit in calories to burn that much off. I would reccommend excersie and diet. But that's just my opinion. If you want to lose more either burn more or eat less.

Shrinking Muscle Mass
Hi there are two ways to lose muscle mass. 1 Over train your muscles like by doing to many resps. 2 Don't use your muscles. What you don't use in your everyday life comes off. Have you ever heard the saying use it or lose it. Well it applies to muscles. Also you need a certain amount of protein to substain muscle mass so try and cut down on that. To be honest most people can use all the muscle they have, and I don't know anyone who has to much, maybe what your considering is muscle is fat. everyone carries fat in different places so maybe you just carry in your thighs. You should really have your BMI tested to be sure.

I've had to lose weight more than once, and every time it comes off differently. It really depends what excersice your doing, like what muscles you are using the most.

Wanna train to run a 5k--help
Hi, I suggest you try running one min, walking one min. And build your way up. I've been doing that, then I started doing two mins running, 30 seconds walking. And eventually you don't need a break, and when I do its for 30 seconds. I honestly started out not even being able to walk 20 mins at 4 mph. Hope it works for you!

Splenda
I read in Atkins that even though there are no calories in no calorie sweetners like sweet n low, splenda, or diet pop, they have a effect on your blood sugar levels. So, for example, in Atkins you count 1 packet of sweetner a 1 gram of carbohydrate and you can have a total of 20 grams of carbohydrate in the introduction phase. This could be the reason.
