Hi,I am 45 years old. I have 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren. I've tried several diets and never seem to stick to them for the long run. Recently I had blood results come back showing that I am Pre-Diabetic! My mother, one of my sisters and 1 of my brothers have full blown TypeII Diabetis. So this is MY wake up call! I still have the opportunity to do something about it!
I can either eat healthier and exercise and get out of my pre-diabetic stage OR I can end up taking shots of insulin everyday for the rest of my life.
I CHOOSE EATING HEALTHIER AND START EXERCISING!!!
I've been reading a lot to educate myself about this and started playing around with different types of eating and such. Well with what I'm doing right now I'm losing weight and feeling better!
I started out at 225 in July 2007 and this past MOnday Sept.24th I weighed 215.6.
My Dr. told me that if I do the South Beach Diet that not only will I keep myself from getting full blown diabetis but I will lose weight as well. I've tried the South BEach Diet before but it's so hard to stick to and I need to do something that I KNOW I can stick to for the rest of my life! So I'm basically doing the South BEach Diet but I have changed just a few things to make it so "I" can do it for LIFE!
I keep tweaking things here and there as I go along and I'm sure in the end I will be doing the SBD completely. But for now what I'm doing is working!
I have stopped drinking soda pop completely and already "feel" a difference.
Now I'm working on how to best fit in my fruits and carbs. At the moment I'm using fruits as my snacks and only eating whole grain carbs and extremely limiting those.
I haven't shared any of what I'm doing with my family other then my husband because I find that people ALWAYS HAVE AN OPINION on what THEY think you should do! I just don't want them discouraging me!!!
At any rate, so far it's going good and like I said I will tweak things as I go along. One day at a time!
