performance: losing 0.6 lb a week

Slender until my forties, at age fifty, I am now the heaviest I've ever been. Lost 75 lbs. about 7 years ago - it took over 13 months of heavy exercise (2-3 hrs. daily), and by keeping my diet <1200 calories and under 25 grams a fat per day to lose the weight. Consistancy and journaling was key in my success. However, slowly but surely, neglecting proper weight management, I've gained it all back, plus a few lbs. to boot.

I'm ready now to get serious about shedding these pounds. I'm following a low cal/fat diet & getting plenty of exercise. Drinking enough water is a challenge, and the disappointment of seeing the scales go UP, when I have been faithful, is always kinda depressing. The amount of time it will take to achieve my goal seems SO LONG, but I plan on setting some short term goals, in an attempt to circumvent discouragement.

There really is no secret to weight loss

I watched the video. Yikes. HFCS always seemed a dubious ingredient, now I understand why! Checking labels in my pantry revealed that a can of Tomato Soup (an ingredient in the vegetable soup that's been a mainstay of my diet) has HFCS. I will try to replace it with tomato paste, but I bet it won't taste as good Doubt And my fat-free half&half? They achieved that by adding HFCS!!
Which means that while it isn't really fattening going down my throat - it ultimately gets turned to fat by my body. So not really fat-free after all!

I had always associated heart/cholesteral problems with fried/fatty foods - now I've learned that fructose isn't at all like other sugars.Shock Thanks Denise for sharing that link.

it isn't only obese people who overeat. I think MOST people overeat. Look at the portion sizes we are served. I think obese people are people who's metabolisms handle the overeating by storing fat. Some thin people overeat as well, but do not store it in fat the same way.)

So true. Up until my forties, and especially as a teen and 20's, I ate 3 times what I eat now and didn't gain an ounce! You would not believe how difficult it was for me (later in life) to get over that just ONE cookie every day could make me gain weight Laughing
For whatever reason my metabolism changed, and there is no way I can overeat like I once could.
