Hello to all!
I am 37 years old, with 13 years military service behind me. I stay in shape by working out, mountain biking, horseback riding, rollerblading, running, skiing, etc. I live in Germany and work for the US gov.
I was invited here by my Dad. I worry about him and seeing that he has joined this site and asked me to be his buddy to keep him motivated and on track means alot to me. So since I can't be in the states to help, I am here helping the best I can.

How do i stop feeling hungry??
You should stay hungry, now when I say that I mean, graze eat. If your diet is to eat 4000cal a day, then eat them over 6 meals a day and not 3. What this will do is speed up your metabolism. When you eat 3 meals your body will store up what it needs to make it to the next meal. When you eat it over 6 meals you will burn cals to digest the food, plus use everything needed since you will eat again in 2 or 3 hours.

Fun Games
I have seen recently that some gyms in the states are starting to play games for exersice, such as Dodgeball. When we were kids we exersiced and had fun, no as adults we think of exersice as work. It doesn't have to be. It should be fun. I have the advantage of being in Germany working for the US. I go white water rafting in Austria, mountain biking in Switzerland, hiking in the Alps....yes it is fun and great. The point is this is exersice and I have fun doing it. Being here in Germany, I see german families going for walks, bike rides every evening after dinner, as a family. Again exersice! Parents in the yard playing, chasing their kids, playing soccor with them.
Exersice is(can be) fun, if you think of it as work and a chore then it will be.

My fitness program... starting tomorrow !
Sounds great! But I would think about the 40/20 split. The best is not to think about max or min time limits. Find your target heart rate, don't start the clock until you reach it, meaning 5 min to get your heart to the target rate does not count against your 30 min. Once you are in the zone now work for 30 min, then you can switch to another exercise, again the key is to keep your heart rate in the zone for 30 min.

Cheat days
To all,
I work out regularly and watch what I eat, now I don't weigh every chicken breast or cup of rice, I just know whats good and whats not. Being in the Army and in the gym, I have talked to bodybuilders and read articles. Everyone agrees it is OK to have a cheat day. On this day you can divert from your diet and have a piece of pizze, or an ice cream cone. This reminds you, you are human and food can taste good, it's also a reward for doing well and staying focused, and not being a robot.
It is OK to do this as long as you know the next you will have to spend and extra 10 min on the treadmill, cross trainer, or bike. As long as you track it, keep it reasonable, and work it off over the next week, its OK to have a cheat day once a month, or once a week, depending on your weight.
