In 2007 I was a 24 year old construction worker and weighed 78 KGs, I was fit as a fiddle and as healthy as I have ever been. I became an English teacher in 2008 and my weight started to gradually increase year after year. I didn't pay much attention to it at first, but a couple of years later I had gained 22 KG's and jumped the 100 KG mark. It was depressing and frustrating how I let myself go and allowed myself to go that far. But by then I didn't care and indulged deeper into my bad eating habits. This year I went for a random blood test and the results showed that my cholesterol levels were through the roof and had to start taking 2 different medications to counter complications. I am now 33 years old, 107 Kgs with a 34 BMI, taking 2 medications and lose my breath trying to tie my shoes. I don't know what happened, but I am done. All I hear from people around me are comments like " wow man, you got big!" or "Man!, you put on a lot of weight dude!" or "Daaaaamn what happened!" Good question, what happened ? Tell you the truth I don't know what happened. All I know is that I am done. I want to go back to being healthy again, I want to drop the medications and be able to walk up a flight of stairs without losing my breath. I am currently on a calorie diet to lose weight and am not looking back. This is the umpteenth time I start a diet, but this is the first time I am serious about it. If there is anything I learned from starting and failing at diets is: Set realistic goals. Instead of aiming to lose 50 pounds in 5 months, aim to lose 4 pounds in 4 weeks. Keep it real. Keep your eye on the prize but don't make it so far that you lose hope halfway in. I am determined to reach my optimal weight of 75 KG's, and I plan to do that by losing 1 KG at a time. Fatsecret has helped me focus and keep track of my progress, I love this application and will keep using it even after I reach my target weight. Good luck to everyone here, and all the best! Cheers!
