I'm a father of 3. I sit down too much working as an engineer:) I'm trying to lose some weight. I do try and ride my exercise bike every day for 30 mins and on the weekend I've been learning to fence.

My biggest motivation to slim down is not only to feel better but to help prevent Alzheimer's if possible. Being an engineer, I need my brain to be sharp and last long enough to retirement. Alzheimer's runs in my family and current research is pointing to insulin resistance being a big culprit. Some are calling AD - Type 3 Diabetes. What I've been learning about added sugar is disturbing enough that I want to make a change as well. I would like to come out better than my grandparents and parents when I enter retirement if it at all possible and be able to spend quality time with my wife, kids, and hopefully grandkids one day. I still need to exercise more and I've read that's good for the brain too :-)

To lose weight, I've been restricting my calories at about 1800 a day, and I have greatly reduced my sugar intake. I'm experimenting with more protein and fats in my diet as well and it seems to be working.
