how has this journey affected you life besides weight loss?
My confidence has increased -- I feel like I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. My health has improved DRAMATICALLY. I have so much more energy and actually enjoy my job again and feel like doing other things before and after work. I'm truly a different person -- or rather, an improved version of myself. Little things like being able to get up and down out of the floor, fit easily in a booth at restaurants, buy clothes in a regular store -- all of these sound small but they affect your outlook on everything. I no longer center my life around food, and it has made me adjust all my other priorities and think about what is most important to me.

I'm going to be hungry
Well you're right about the s**tting rainbows. I think people are trying really hard to stay positive, and so what happens is we don't post as much about the struggles we go through daily and try instead to keep ourselves motivated. It is always going to suck when you can't eat all the foods that you want. I thought I was going to slap someone who kept offering me cake at work last week (4 times -- good grief, can't you realize NO MEANS NO!), while I tried to hide my drool and professed that I didn't want it. But I just keep reminding myself that it will pay off in the end. Every time I pass a test like that, I feel stronger.

I'm going to 3rd the high fat, low carb, moderate protein plan. I think you have to have a calorie deficit to lose weight, but in my case it really helps with curbing my hunger so that I do end up eating less calories.

Do you have to do induction to lose?
It might work. But coffeemate makes sugar free creamers that are lower in carbs.

I'm not sure. I've always just counted my carbs and was successful. I do deduct fiber from the carb count because you can't digest it anyway. You should eat below 20g per day in induction if you are following Atkins. After induction, you start adding 5g per week until you stop losing weight for 2 weeks or more. Add your foods in one at a time so you can also check and see if it is the food that is causing the problem and not the amount of carbs. (5g extra of dairy might stall you while 5g of nuts may not) I lost over 150lbs doing Atkins. (Then I stupidly went back to my old way of eating and gained most of it back over the next 2 years.)

I would not deviate because induction helps you get switched over to burning fat for fuel instead of carbs. And you want to do the basic diet first before you start adding in other foods, because you will need to do these one at a time to find out which ones you will be able to eat and how many carbs you will be able to increase to and still continue losing weight. Everyone is different. Good Luck!
