Hi! I am Karen, and I have wrestled with weight most of my life, going up and down by 50 lbs but never quite reaching goal.

Food has always been part of my work. I was a freelance food writer, including having a dining column, which required a meal out each week. During the day I have used my culinary skills at non profits. I worked at a soup kitchen, helping to feed 100+ guests a day. I cooked at a senior day center and also for kids in a summer nutrition program

While doing for others, it's been hard to remember to do for self. My wonderful husband is also a food professional, and we love to cook together. We have been re-dedicated to FS since January 2020. He's lost 40 and I've lost 23. Our bloodwork has improved significantly. Pandemic quarantine has made this easier for us. We limit our shopping, portion & freeze food and plan menus. Working on adding in more outdoor activity.

I am funny, creative and supportive. I understand the struggle of being in this for the long haul and welcome friends and support in the journey.

Cheers!

Spaghetti Squash with Cheese and Vegetables
Using spaghetti squash this is a veggie rich, cheesy casserole, almost like a lasagna and is a lower calorie alternative.

Your healthy cravings!
I get spicy cravings now. I make a spicy thai soup and a spicy black bean soup and that usually tastes so good i almost forget about fried, carb, sweet or chocolate!

Blowing it on the Weekends
I second K8! Drinking makes your judgement and willpower go out the window. Order Diet coke, Iced tea, or club soda & lime. In addition to saving calories, you will probably save money since many places offer free refills on soda or tea. (you could bank the money you save ($3 x 3 is $10+ a week) and splurge on a new dress - new hairstyle -manicure as incentive.) Caffeine will give you a little buzz and energy to dance later if you want.

Also, about restaurant choices. I'm a restaurant reviewer, and chains are last resort for diets. The kitchens are not flexible about deviating from the menu. cooks are young and not good with substitutions and nutrition. At an independent restaurant you can tell your server to ask chef to make substitutions you need. You are paying someone to cook for you- YOU call the shots!

Reducing Redux
Up and down all my life, I've gained and lost several times. Other times have been for vanity. This time for health. Not gettin any younger, and want to enjoy most of my independent years traveling.

My job as a restaurant critic and food writer doesn't make it easier. What's better than free food right? Freedom of movement, freedom of choice in clothing, freedom to explore rocky coasts and mountain trails.

So here we go again. I have a great partner who is doing this with me because I asked for support. And a good friend who is also doing it for health. Love this site. I had a collection of old non-expiring WW coupons, but that gives you no access to online tools, so this freebie is just what i need!!

I am smart, funny and supportive. Full of good ideas. Drop me notes if you like. Always welcome online buddies and support as well as the ones in my RL.

Cheers!
Karen

In Love with Peanut Butter xoxoxoxoxo
A friend's daughter is vegetarian and has been experimenting with alternative protien sources. She has tried Almond Butter and loves it for the taste. There are pros & cons to both. AB is slightly higer in Calories - 104 v 94. PB has more protien. I believe the WW points are about the same. PRICE is a kicker. PB $2-3 a jar vs AB $6 or so a jar. I would say if you need some variety from the PB to keep your taste buds interested - go for it. Also google Almond Butter vs. Peanut Butter to see a couple blogs that analyze in depth.
