Hi all - I am currently a member of a Low Carb Daily Check In group which has been extremely helpful so I thought I would try the same with us work from home folks.

My hope would be a topic site for a daily check in, where you will find friends, keep motivated, find out how everyone else is doing-and their secrets to success Share ups and downs, tips, ideas, and recipes.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Happy Saturday all...yesterday was a baking fool trying out all the low carb recipies and putting them in the freezer for easy meals the next few weeks. Angie on low carb site posted an awesome veggie pizza recipie. I made two - one veggie and one mexican with salsa, cheddar and taco seasoning and since I am an extra sauce extra cheese person had to go on calorie count for updated nutrition. Was bad on the veggies (unless the veggie pizza counts) but all in all a good day! Four more days until first weigh in

Hi Juls,

I think this is a great idea and I will try to check in daily.

The low carb thing hasn't really worked for me in the past because we are a carb kind of family. What is working so far is counting calories and exercising. I got a dog a month ago and walk him 1 - 3 times a day (shooting for 3 but it doesn't always happen) and that is helping a lot too.

Thanksgiving was hard. Had to entertain a lot of people and strangely, they didn't clean me out on leftovers like they usually do. I hate to waste food so what I've done is divided everything into single portions and froze. I won't be wasting or over eating that way.

I'm close to hitting my first goal of getting below 300. I can't remember the last time I was. I probably would have this week, if not for the holiday, but I expect to next week. The good news is, that while I didn't lose weight, when I weighed in on Sunday, I was the same weight as I was the previous Tuesday, so I didn't gain for Thanksgiving.

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving as well!

Hi Sheryl. I hear you about the low carb thing - it is tough the first week or so and I am currently in the throes of the Atkins flu but thanks to advice from Low Carb site I am now sipping on Chicken Broth throughout the day to at least keep the headaches at bay. You would have to ask my hubby if it alleviates the crabby and dizzy symptoms LOL.

Good for you on the puppy and even a walk once a day is better than none. Not sure how your weather in Iowa was but here in Minnesota we went from 60 to 20 with snow on Thanksgiving UGH.

You have already done great on the weight loss and no gain over the holidays - kudos to you!

Hope your Monday went well!

Hey Juls - I remember the first time I ever did Atkins....it was summer in Georgia and I was in the bed with the CHILLS! I eventually slipped from it but I learned a lot from it and each time I learn more and incorporate more. This time I am doing it not so much for the weightloss but I realize that when I cut out the breads and stuff that my joints that ache and the pains that I have start disappearing within a couple of days! The weight loss is an added benefit so I believe I am in it for life this time.

It would be great if we could get the same activity going here as is going in our other group.

Sheryl - That is great on the walking and sounds like you are very close to a goal...that is fantastic! Exercise is exercise and a puppy is a great way to get it...and have fun Smile

Weather here in Washington state...it isn't snowing which is unusual but it is COLD

Our weather didn't change until the day after Thanksgiving, but it is cold here. King doesn't have a nice thick coat so he has to wear a coat when we go outside, but he seems to like it. I've lived in Iowa all of my life so I'm used to the cold. As long as it isn't windy and snowing the cold isn't so bad and hopefully we will be able to continue to walk a lot this winter.

I'm being tested this week for Celiacs, so if I have that, I guess I'll be eating a lot more Atkins like than I do now. I had no idea it would help with joint problems and such. I have horrible arthritus in my knees and hands. I might have to rethink that.

What I really need to do is get back to drinking my water. Soda was on sale a lot the past couple of weeks and while I had been down to like 1 diet soda a week, I'm drinking 1+ a day right now. And when I drink soda I don't drink nearly as much water.

My daughter is getting me a Fitbit for Christmas and I think that will help. I makes me think about everything I do, more. I had a Fitbug and while I liked it, the software was a pain and when my subscription ran out, I did not renew it. The Fitbit has a lot more functionality so I'm excited to start using it.

Hey Sheryl - my cousin has Celiacs and for the longest time didn't know it. Her father passed away a long time ago but we all think now that he had it but no one realized it.

I do not believe I have Celiacs, but I do believe that I have gluten allergies. That is what brought me back to Atkins this last time (or rather low carb anyway) is that I was tired of being in pain. I noticed that when I eat the normal carb foods (which consist of breads and so forth) that my joints and my body begins to ache and hurt. Within a few days of cutting them out the pains go away. I would not wish Celiacs on anyone, but I know that it is manageable (my cousin does a great job) and I do hope that you can get rid of some of your aches and pains.

Low carb has come such a long way with all the recipes available now. Instead of twice baked potatoes I have twice baked cauliflower (I am not a big fan of cauliflower) but it is great and my family likes it too...of course I did not tell them what it was until after they ate it. I have made pizza with cauliflower crust and hamburger crust and anyway I do hope that you get some good answers with your tests and I know that whatever the results are it will still help you on your journey to being a healthier you and feeling better (bye bye aches and pains!).

Hey Sheryl-one of my best friends was diagnosed with severe Celiac disease about two years ago (originally they thought she had stage 4 ovarian cancer - but ran one last test before the operated on her). She has joined a support group locally and has learned much and as I host many parties she attends I have as well Smile If you have a cub foods near you they have a great selection - even better if you have a Trader Joes. If it does come to pass that you do have it I can give you many of her favorite brands (trust me there has been much experimenting).
I must be old what the heck is fitbit??
Jaime - I too hope this site takes off as well as the Low Carb (but who gets to play Angie's role LOL)
Hope the weather improves in Washington - here in Minnesota and Iowa me thins we are stuck with what we have until next April.
Have a wonderful evening!!

Good Morning Everyone!

Juls, I hope everything went well with your corruption. I have been there many times. As the IT person for 140 luddites I am shocked by some of the things I have to fix and the end user having no idea how it could have possibly happened...

I sure don't want to have Celiacs, but I think giving up wheat products will be a lot more pleasant than the iron infusions I've needed to have recently. I have to go to the hospital for several treatments where they hook to me up to an IV for several hours and give me iron directly. Then I'm sick for three days and start really feeling better in time to go have another one... If I have it, mine is a more mild form, that is basically keeping me from absorbing nutrients from my food. I'll be glad to have the resources if I have to start cooking gluten-free.

I Fitbit if a fantastic little gizmo that tracks your steps, and how far you've climbed (like up stairs) and how well you sleep, and estimates calories burned and... Really, it is a glorified pedometer, but it has a great support website too for tracking your calories and blood pressure and pulse rate, and it also works with many other sites like LoseIt and MapMyWorkout. Basically, for me, it will be a motivational tool. http://www.fitbit.com/home

Luckily, we're not completely stuck with winter yet. It is supposed to be 60 degrees and sunny on Sunday so I'm taking the opportunity to put up my outside decorations. I hate doing that after it snows.

Good luck with your eating today Juls! I know how that goes, but I also know you can do it. And if you fall off the horse, just get right back on Smile And remember we are here for you!

Hey Juls! I know what you mean...when I do not get a lot of sleep my body want to eat to stay awake! Just drink plenty of water and caffeine over food if necessary!!

Sheryl - I worked with a lady and she had to go get iron a couple times a week. I hope that they get this figured out for you. That I Fibit sounds like a neat gadget; I will have to check that out.

I also have an app that I downloaded on my phone and you can set up all sorts of motivational reminders and reminders to drink water or take a vitamin or whatever you want. It is called My Diet Coach and is a free app.

I hope y'all have a great day!

Good Morning Everyone. Juls, I hope yesterday went much better than you expected!

In for another long day at work... I haven't liked my job in a long time which will always make the days long. I found out yesterday I might have to go to Maine in two weeks. Just what I want to do... Travel, to a colder state, right before Christmas. I need to count myself lucky though; I haven't had to travel in several months, and in this economy, there are still many people without jobs. The good news is, I generally lose weight while I'm traveling.

I'm hoping after Christmas, James (DH) will get back in the swing of things too. He throws himself into everything 100% and if he can't do that, he doesn't do it. Some knee issues have prevented him (or so he says) from going to the gym, the last couple of months, which also means he is not eating good. I've been doing pretty good staying on track this time, while he is not, but it is so much easier when we are doing it together.

Does anyone have big plans for the weekend? We have our 13-year-old daughter this weekend and will be putting up the Christmas tree and hanging outside decorations. If I get ambitious, I might start wrapping presents too. Any suggestions on how to wrap 32" TVs so that it isn't obvious what they are?

Sheryl - I wish yesterday would have went better than I expected too LOL....oh well like you say Sheryl at least we are employed - so can't complain much about that. Have an install this evening at 8 pm based on yesterday I will be lucky to be off line by midnight so I think I will be cutting tomorrow pretty short work wise.
For the TV you might want to go to the dollar store and pick up one of those large Christmas bags - then throw in empty boxes and newspaper so it is really wierdly shaped. I did that for my son's treadmill a few years back
Jaime - I know you are on the low carb and I made some "bread" this morning as I am dying for something that resembles a sandwich....will keep you posted on how that all turns out.
The only plans I do have is to go to Wisconsin and watch the Packers BEAT the Vikings with my hubby, daughter and her boyfriend. I have to really find something else to drink besides iced tea - I at least would like to mimic an adult beverage Smile
Happy Thursday!

Good morning All!

Sheryl - Sorry that you may be traveling during the holidays; that is a bummer but as you said at least we have jobs. Bundle up if you go to Maine!!!

Juls - Sounds like you have a long haul ahead of you today.

I am looking at a long day tomorrow. EOY inventory. Living in Washington State I start work at 5am (the branches are all on EST and CST) and no I typically do not end work at 1:30pm my time but work on). Tomorrow I will be working at 5am but probably working up until 9pm entering inventory counts. Then we have to work Saturday so I will be back up working at 5am again. Not what I am looking forward to on a Saturday.

Sheryl - Kudos to you on staying with your plan even without your DH sticking to it so much. It is hard to do when DH is doing their own thing. We had a gym membership before and DH never went for long. We have a stationary bike that he got (when I got my elliptical) and I have used the bike more than he has. Speaking of which I need to get back to exercising today.

Sheryl - not sure about how to disguise a tv. I think Juls probably has the best idea...lol...if they try to lift it they will certainly know. Or you could print a picture of the tv and wrap it in a little box and stow the tv in a closet...haha.

Juls - Please do let me know how the bread turns out!! I bake or fry the low carb/high fiber tortillas and flat out wraps to have chips sometimes and otherwise I use celery in my dip when I am really craving a cheese dip.

We don't have any plans this weekend (since I am working). Looks like our plans may involve moving soon...not sure yet. DH has been called by a company that is back in Georgia and they are flying him out next week for an interview. I love it here and I love working from home and being done around 2:30 or 3pm or if I need to work late having the freedom to do that and it is still early. However, my family is back in Georiga (as long as my 19 year old daughter decides to make the move with us) and it would be great to be close to them again. However, I am not looking forward to the Atlanta commute again twice a day or the time that it sucks up to do it. However, it is in God's hands and I know that it will all work out. I am trying not to stress over it all but it is hard not to and stressing makes me want to eat.

Good morning Everyone! Hope you had a good day yesterday!

Sheryl did you get your tv wrapped or decide how to do so? I hope your day wasn't too long.

Juls - I expect that you were up pretty late last night and I hope you get to make up on that late night this morning.

It will be a long day for me today...we have regular EOM with EOM closings and reports to be ran. Then we have EOY Inventory. I am looking to get count sheets from a couple of the branches that are in Central time zone. I think they are working late so that will work well with me working late. It will also work that I cannot start posting until EOM is closed so at least I should accumulate some count sheets. Then I have to get up tomorrow morning and be back at work at 5am. I will miss my sleeping in day.

I hope everyone has a great day and weekend!

Good morning all - I am a little bit tired but third time was a charm and we got the code in production by about 10 pm (way past this old ladies bedtime)

Sheryl - how are things? Did you get any news on the celiac?

Jamie - good luck with the inventorys - not a fun job been there and done that. When are you going to know about Georgia? And a bigger question will you be a Falcon or Seahawk fan LOL

I will be making another batch of the Angie "Bread" today - hubby is now eating it too. I don't think I posted the recipe for you two and Sheryl this you can eat if you do have celiac:

4 eggs (Room Temperature)
4 oz cream cheese (Room Temperature)
2 tsps olive oil
2 cups shredded cheese (I used cheddar - this next batch mozerella)

Preheat oven to 375. Using a mixer blend eggs, cream cheese and olive oil. When blended (cream cheese tends to clump up a bit so no worries) add the two cups cheese. Put in a well greased (so the Pam is swimming around) 9 x 13 baking pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool. Cut into 8 pieces. Store in a large freezer bag (use paper towel between pieces).

Calories depend on the cheese - I go to Calorie Count for all my recipies it is much easier to use than the Fat Secret tool.

http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php

Sorry so long - just a little chatter box this am HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Hey Juls sounds like the bread was a hit! Thanks for posting this I will definitely have to try it and those are all staple items in my househould Wink

LOL! I am not really a pro football fan so much...I like college football much better. If I had to choose probably Falcons since that is my hometown. I haven't yet converted to Seahawks and not sure that I would (we did go to one game last year and FROZE!!).

I think we will know about Georgia next week. DH spoke with someone yesterday and they do offer a relocation package so that is a positive sign. Since DH had also put together a plan for this company a couple months ago (they were exploring opening a branch in this neck of woods but decided not to) they already have an idea of what he would expect to be paid. So with all of that being said I think it is more positive that they will make him an offer that we could live with. I do love the Pacific Northwest and it is beautiful here. However, my family is in Georgia and as my parents get older (and my Grandmother is 96) I tend to worry more. I will keep praying about it and I know whatever happens will be in God's plan.

Trying not to get too stressed out about all the possibilities. DH has told me that he will have a company come in and pack us up this time. Last time (when we moved from Georgia to Washington state) he came out in September and my daughter and I stayed and packed everything up and came out right before Christmas. It is funny because December 19th 2009 is when she and I left to drive out here and here it is 19 days from that date and we may be coming full circle.

Okay I guess I am a chatter box today too!

I hope y'all have a great weekend!

I just got home from the doctor. The drew what felt like a gallon of blood which needs to go to the MAYO for the tests so it will probably be a week before I get the results.

The "bread" recipe sounds yummy. Sounds similar to a "pizza crust" I made when we were trying the low carb thing. I'm going to give it a try this weekend.

Jaimie, I love Atlanta and I have to travel there often for work but the traffic is an issue. If you move there, would you have to go back to working in the office? My company has tried to get me to transfer there several times, but I keep pushing back. But, now my DH has applied for a job there (he and I work AT the same company, but he is an employee and I am a consultant) so I may end up there anyway. Our main office is in Alpharetta, so hopefully we could find housing close and not have as much of a commute. Anyway, I hope it works out the way you want!

Juls, I'm glad you got everything done. Do you get the weekend off, or will you have to work? I hope you both get some downtime!

I haven't wrapped the tvs yet. I'll probably make a trip to the dollar store this weekend to get some ideas. I'm considering doing a big bag for each of the kids and just putting ALL of their presents in it (individually wrapped) so they have no idea what or how many they are getting until Christmas morning. DH wants to hide one of the TVs so that kid thinks they are getting ripped off. I haven't decided how I feel about that yet... I could see it being funny, or back-firing miserably!

I'm sure glad I don't have to worry about inventory! I'll have some end of year reporting to do, but our Fiscal year doesn't start over until April, so most of mine comes then.

Having a moving company come in should help a lot. Do you think your daughter will go to?

If I don't get a chance to log in, have a great weekend!

Ever shrinking!

Hey Sheryl if the move goes through then I will be back into the office working daily. That means the commute. However, this time I believe we will live South of Atlanta (my office is not far from the Capital) instead of North of Atlanta (where we lived before in Gwinnett County). My husband will have a littler farther commute than me (office likely in Sandy Springs area) but he said that he would move to Newnan. That is the area that I am from and that my family lives close to and we like it in Newnan. The commute is not as bad going home if you are headed South than it is headed North either.

It seems that my daughter will go. She has stated that she is joining the Army Reserves to get her LPN (she is currently a registerd nurses assistant) so if she does so she would be headed off for boot camp in February and then gone to school for a year after that. We will see if she maintains this plan that she has so far. She loves her job working and caring for the dementia elderly and I really hope that if we do move she can get another one doing the same. Since the minimum wage in GA is lower than WA that means most pay base is lower in GA so she may have to take a decrease in pay. However, it should still be manageable for her.
