i have sever asthma requiring steroids 2-4 times a year and daily nebulising obviously my mobility is poor too .
i also take citalapram for nerves/ibs
i am very overweight morbidly obese ...very large belly is worst problem
so any advice/support would be appreciated
i am trying to eat heathily as all my life ive been a yo yo dieter losing and gaining 48-60 ponds each time ,i know severe dieting does not work for me so anything i do has to be permanent
at the moment im trying to cut down on bread,hard cheese and margarine,ive reduced my coffee from 12 cups a day to 3 quite successfully and i dont take sugar,i use skimmed milk, i know i dont eat enough fruit and veggies but trying to have 2-3 portions a day at the moment. ive reduced my portion of potatoes to 12 chips or 4 roasties and i dont really have a sweet tooth

any advice in the right direction would be good

one problem i have is that i sleep a lot and then i wake and eat often during the night time this puts everything out of sinche

I have heard that medication messes with your weight. I don't think adding fruit and veggies is the solution. I agree that removing all the junk food is a first step.

When you wake at night try drinking water (or flavored water) instead of eating. If you must eat, try adding raw veggies then. It isn't the best but fiber makes you feel full.

Steroids tend to make you want to eat, and I think Citalapram will as well. Try increasing your water intake to 80 ounces daily. If you have munchies, at least for me, drinking the water tends to help curb my need to munch/snack. I'm currently taking a nutrition class in school and one of the sites I found that makes things really easy for me is www.choosemyplate.gov . I can't do "diets" so to speak, I really suck at denying myself the things I love and want to eat. So, I do the bad things in moderation most times. I keep no junk food inside my house. Which means, if I decide I want a soda, I have to go to the store and buy it. Most times, I'm not willing to leave my house once I get home from work or school, and I rarely stop on my way to or from work or school. Some junk food I keep outside in the freezer/fridge in the garage. But as long as it's out of sight, it's usually out of mind for me.

I have started to change coffee for warm water with lemon, lime, a slice of ginger. I don't think the combination matters - but I find that it curbs my hunger pangs.

I am the same. If junk food is in the house then I eat it.
