Hi everyone!

A little background...

Cheryl and I emailed back and forth when I decided to end my participation at LCF. Cheryl wanted to see if we could start our own forum and I didn't think that was even a possibility or that enough people would be interested in it if we did. Cheryl is the reason we are here now so kudos to her for seeing what I could not see and being persistent enough to make it happen.

I've never tried to run my own forum before although I have been a moderator before (many years ago).

I didn't think so many of you guys, regulars on our old thread, would be interested in moving somewhere else to continue our NK adventures. Cheryl was right though and I am personally grateful to her for motivating me to give it a try. NK wouldn't be nearly as rewarding to me without all of you.

But I really didn't think it'd be more than maybe three or four people that'd be interested and that thinking, along with not knowing what is available as options for a forum, guided my decision to give it a try here at Fat Secret. I thought, whatever the limitations of FS's website they wouldn't matter much because there wouldn't be very many of us posting.

Wrong! lol We have 24 members so far and I think if we were located at a more site that was actually a dedicated forum, rather than an add-on feature of a site that does forums on the side, we could grow our membership and reach new people that could benefit from NK.

A huge benefit to having a real forum is ease of use too. Most people know how to use a generic forum but the faux-forum group thing here at FS is counterintuitive along with the limited feature set.

It is worth pointing out some of the limitations of this location:

*You can't link to a specific post.
*No 'first unread post' feature.
*No way to create categories of posts.
*No way to search a thread.
*Profile blurb is limited.
*Quick Reply is not copied to Go Advanced if you click it.
*Very limited text formating.
*No support for embedded videos or other cool stuff.
*Quoted posts do not have a link back to the original post.

...and whatever else I haven't thought of off the top of my head.

On a dedicated forum site, all of those limitations are gone. More than that, though, there are a lot of features that a full blown site supports that FS will never support.

I think I have found a site that will be an excellent home for us. I've been tinkering with it for the last couple of days and it is impressive.

It has a mobile app too. Both iPhone and Android. The android app is $2.99. But I don't see why you'd need to buy it and I doubt I will (anytime soon anyway). You should be able to just use your browser or whatever app you already use for posting to forums from your phone.

It looks great! Thank you so much for doing this, and Cheryl too for leading the way. Smile

Should we start posting on the new board, or does it need more tinkering before it's ready for prime time?

Thank you very much Myles Smile

The set up at ProBoards is very attractive though. In addition to not costing anything they are very active on their support forums. I've already posted back and forth with a couple of them about a Chrome error. And one of the guys posted an update about it just an hour or so ago to let me know that what I'd said might have helped them fix the problem server-side. Very cool.

They are also offering me a Porsche to locate our forum there. No pressure, but if you have a spare Ferrari that could tip things in your favor.
