I've felt that when I come to the LCF forum that my life had changed. It had. Finally, someone to talk to about my concerns, weight issues etc. It's been so great. Now I feel that my life is changing again. On Sunday, I will be moving in with my friend Freida to help her adjust to being out of the nursing home. Truthfully I don't think she will get much better. Can't walk without help. So what I'm going to do is feed her the best nutritious food I can. I've been doing a lot of reading about the Perfect Health diet. And I feel this is the way to go. She doesn't need to lose any more weight. So I'll be going on it with her. My part will be the weight loss version. 75 g protein, 100 g carb and the rest fats. Up to 1200 cal. A lot of nourishing broths, eggs, hwc, good wholesome foods. No wheat, corn, beans, or sugars. I will still be doing my counts and will stay on plan. Will report my progress. I have decided to stay with this fitness counter. It's much better after all than fitday or myfooddiary. Sure was amazing having a baked potato w/sour cream for 1st time in 3 mo.

Linda, I'm glad your friend has someone like you to look after her. The Perfect Health Diet sounds good for people who can tolerate a bit more carbs than some of us.

Melanie, I had a thought about increasing your protein because you are taking a steroid.
Consider that the body wouldn't break down LBM unless it needs the amino acids that are otherwise provided by dietary protein. [Or glucose but the amount of glucose required is very small and a very small amount of carbs typically provides it.]
If that is correct it probably means that the amount of protein you can eat without it being considered 'excess' by the body is more than whatever level you could eat without the medicine. So, effectively, your tolerance for protein is higher and it won't be turned into glucose like it would be if it weren't for the medicine.

That's what I'm thinking too Darin, and I'm pretty sure you're right about that already because before I HAD to eat around 63-65g to even see a budge in the scale... if I got to 70, I'd start to gain. I've eaten in the 70's the past three days, and so far no gains at all. Though this week if I DO see gains it'll be hard to determine exactly what it's from... but no gains are good gains The only thing of course becomes, what's my upper limit now while I'm on steroids? I'm just going to keep VERY slowly toying with it I think until I figure it out and hope I don't trigger a chain reaction of gains when I do so Melanie | 27 | PCOS/Hypothyroid/Adrenal Fatigue Goal #1 - 150 | Goal #2 - 140-145 | Overall Goal - tone and maintain! One of the things Jenny Ruhl mentions in Diet 101 is that when people go off low carb, they tend to gain more weight than other dieters because they continue eating more fat. 134 again today. Ran 2 miles this morning--the first run since the race because my knee has been so sore. I get MRI results today and figured I should get a run in just in case the doc decides to restrict my activity. The run felt great except for my knee Chapel ********* "Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired.” - George S. Blah, well I'm up my first half pound but I guess in all honesty with TOM and everything else that's been going on I really can't complain a whole lot about that... by now I normally would have gained a whole pound of water anyway, and I also managed to forget to take my extra potassium yesterday in the midst of everything. It's probably just TOM, the potassium thing, and the huge amount of stress I was under last night and am still under now. I doubt it's my protein intake or the steroids. For anyone who cares, they kept SO overnight and they'll be at the hospital for who knows how long... I know they have to see their psychiatrist first before anything else happens, and I'm really not sure what'll happen after that. That's supposed to happen today, so they could be going home as early as tonight or as late as the weekend probably. I was relieved to hear they made it okay to the hospital considering I hadn't heard anything from anyone since early in the day. I guess their mom decided to forget to contact me, so it's a good thing I reached out to their brother and stepdad... their brother was there and let me talk to them for a few via text messages which was nice. SO said they were okay, and that I shouldn't worry (yeah right, like that's possible ). They also said they'd call from the hospital phone if they could, but I doubt they'll let them call long distance like that... I wish they'd just let them have their phone or a computer or something. It's so hard being that out of touch when something like that is going on. Especially when I KNOW that I'm as big of a part of their support system as they are a part of mine. I don't know, I had a rough time sleeping last night thinking of them all alone in the hospital... that's all I dreamed about, and of course I was up every hour or so. I feel like I should be there with the rest of the family during visiting hours, I don't know. That's just the kind of person I am though. When someone I love is in trouble, I come running... and when I can't, I feel like a terrible person. From a medical standpoint though... I'm NOT doing any better I was told to monitor my morning temperatures before getting up and moving around to see if they normalize at all with the low dosage of Armour with everything else. Well, I'm still dead 97.6 has been my highest morning temp yet. I think this morning's was 97.0 which is strange because I felt like I was burning up... probably from being shook up or something, but I was sure I was running a fever or something. Anyway, that's enough rambling for me. Happy that SO is hopefully going to get the help they need, but honestly if it's just an observational thing and they have them meet with their doctor and not a whole lot gets done... I don't know what good this whole thing will have been. But it's going to be another rough one for me today, sitting around without them and without any connection to them more than likely. At least their brother is a sweetheart though, and I'm really grateful for him. He got back to me right away every time I contacted him last night, so hopefully he'll be back at the hospital today with some news for me Melanie | 27 | PCOS/Hypothyroid/Adrenal Fatigue Goal #1 - 150 | Goal #2 - 140-145 | Overall Goal - tone and maintain! Oh, on the bright side though (if there really IS one ) I forgot to mention the other day that I had the OPPOSITE thing happen to me at the doctor's office that most people do... their scale actually weighed me as LESS than my home one! According to them (without subtracting the usual 3 pounds my old doctor did to account for clothing being worn) I was 148.something. So yay!
