Good morning, everybody!

Welcome, Rindaloo! It's been nice having you around here for the past couple of weeks. Which brings me to my next point: Where'd everybody go??? Haven't heard from Sunkeeper in moons...

What is it you're trying to do, Dialup? Start a new challenge? How cool! I don't know if I could go without my daily coffee with Stevia in the morning, though. (But I do hear that Stevia is supposed to be better for you than Splenda.)

Congratulations on the new addition to your family, Tenkilos!!! I just love, love, love babies!! My niece is a year old, and it's all that I can do to keep from slobbering all over her every day! LOL!

Myrna....Yoo-hoo....Where are youuuuuu???

As for me, I got to 137 lbs on the carb cycle and totally got stuck. Been there for like 2 months!! So I restarted my diet, and now I'm doing straight Atkins. So, we'll see how that goes. I don't know whether to start in induction or Phase 2. Any words of wisdom would be welcome. Very Happy

Well...I've got a full day of editing ahead, so I must be off. Have a great day, all!!

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Dial Up - If the challenge doesn't start for 2 weeks, I could go for it. I'll be home by Friday - invite me also when you have it set up.

Lynne - Great will power. I know if I give in once, it starts me on a craving spiral. For me it seems to be all or none, not good when you literally have to eat to survive. Embarassed

Ten - the hard part is being with my daughter - she could eat every couple of hours. I've been trying to stay with meats and veggies. Even with that, I think my fat is not high enough. It is much easier at home. Wish I brought the scale with me, haha! Laughing

Hope everyone is having a great low carb day!

Dialup - thanks just joined! This is going to be harder than I thought. At first I thought okay no splenda in my coffee but I forgot about things like SF jell & splenda bread & butter pickles or anything else. I'll have to read all the labels. Great Challenge can't wait for it to start!

JULIE42, thanks for that. I must say I am really enjoying this group Smile

DIALUP75, I will go and have a look at the challenge now.

RDRUNR557, I had to boast about it Wink Yes, I am like you, if I cheat, its like leaping off the slippery slope.

ATRIEL2, I hope things are OK!

Today weight same as yesterday. Which is OK I guess but it might be a sign that doing "low larbing" but still having rice and quinoa is NOT for me. Will continue for another week (I think) and if things are bad, I will go on Atkins Induction.

BTW, one of the bad things about eating carby sugary foods is the risk of Candida, which makes your gut porous, allowing yuk to poison your system leading to many different symptoms. If this isn't a good ad for Low Carbing, I dont know what is!

Hi everyone!!! I am sorry for being MIA! Thank you to those of you that checked in on me. The biggest culprit has truly been WORK...it is sucking any free time that I have for myself and I am working a LOT of hours. I know it is not healthy, and they say they are looking for help for me but I am not so sure what the continued hold up is.

Anyway, the other thing is I was planning on my trip to Chicago. Yes!!! Our daughter graduated from bootcamp. She passed her PFA and all tests and Battle Stations!!! Thanks so much to those of you that have kept her in your thoughts and prayers, and I know she appreciates it. The graduation was amazing and to her those 700+ new Sailor's recite the creed was just awesome. She has grown so much in such a short time. She actually said she was going to miss boot camp! She is now settled in San Antonio and it is great to be able to text and talk to her. I miss her, but I know that will never change. I will always miss her. I am so very proud of her and so she starts classes next week for Hospital Corpsman. This will be a 3 month course and then we will see where she goes from there. We should know by mid month to end of month July what her next orders will be. I am really hoping that she will not be on ship, but we know she will go wherever the Navy needs her.

I hope that everyone is doing well; I don't think there is anyway for me to catch up on all that has been going on so I am just going to try to jump back in.

Hello Everyone! Hope you're all having a spectacular hump-day.

I'm doing well, and apparently inspiring a half dozen people around me. My wife, her mother, her sister, and several of my co-workers are amazed at my progress, and have been inquiring about how they can achieve some of the goals I've reached rather shortly. In fact, between my wife, mother-in-law and sister-in-law, we've lost over 80 pounds collectively in a couple of months. My mother-in-law cries each time she weighs in, and is now exercising regularly. We looked at some photos of her at New Years 2012, compared to last week, and it was astounding.

Ok - I've got a serious beef with some unscrupulous food peddlers. In particular, there seems to be this unregulated approach to marketing low carb foods, which are not based on science or reality or independent testing. For instance:

1) Atkins Bars - their abuse of the phrase "Sugar Alcohols" is absurd. When you do some research on this particular mixed message, you learn that the main ingredients are responsible for much more carbs than they really let on. I was very disappointed in that approach, and after one (very delicious) chocolate chip cookie dough candy bar, and the subsequent pause in my weight loss / progress, I trashed the remainder of the box.

2) Mission Carb Balance Flour Tortillas - These claim that 26g of the 32g of carbs are dietary fiber. At that rate, when I ate a few of them with some shredded beef, you would think I would have had some explosive proof of that fiber. Nope - instead, I packed on the pounds, and lost momentum on my diet. Not sure what science told them that there were 26 grams of fiber, but I am highly suspicious of that claim.

3) Dreamfield Pastas - This one really ticked me off. They claim that their special carbs are "protected" - what in the world does that mean, from a scientific perspective? Nothing. Upon performing some more research, it turns out that it's all spin and fluff and marketing BS.

On a side note, I did find some bread that did not kill me from a carb perspective, I think it was Aunt Hatties 100% Whole Wheat Low Carb, and it was about 5 carbs per slice. Since I have been at or under 50 carbs per day, I had a slice of it with breakfast. No impact to my progress or weight loss.

Have a great week everyone!

Dial, I got the invite, cool, can't waitSmile
Lynne, hard when that happens, ha you will have to chat to him about including LC options!
Julie, I went to see the new baby again yesterday, how they change in a week! My daughter in law visited too with my other 3 grandchildren, we took pics of the kids all together, how lucky I am Smile Regarding going back to Atkins, I have done that too, I would suggest starting with a few days of induction to get back into deep ketosis, then doing what you are comfortable with... staying there a while longer or upping the carbs a bit, see how it goes!
Toni I hope all is okay x
Rdrunr, sooo much easier at home, meat and veges are good-a spoon full of butter on top might be good to up the fats? Well done on trying hard Smile
Jaime welcome back, you must be so proud of your daughter!
Chris, your family is doing so well, great when you can do it together! I have read that many people stall when they use the 'low carb' mass manufactured products, our bodies are all different and we have to work out through trial and error what works and what doesn't. Personally I can eat the Atkins Advantage bars and lose weight, but I don't eat them every day, maybe 3 or 4 per week. The other products you mention we don't have here..
Vcravener welcome back Smile Just jump back on-I just did too, good luck x

I took lunch to my daughters yesterday, a bag of mixed salad leaves, ham/turkey, tomatoes, cheese, and bread rolls for them! I skipped the rolls LOL

Yippee rain has gone

Hello all,

It's great being on vacation, even got a visit from an old friend who I haven't seen in years. Got to spend the day together. I made dinner burgers, hotdogs, etc. I did good, even made my own flaxseed crackers until she pulled out desserts. You know, the kind you have to try, only made here in FL. Well the little slice of key lime pie wasn't too bad but the little slice of Tres (whatever) put me way over. Crying or Very sad

Now I'm feeling bloated and down. Should have had the will power to say NO. Bet it turned my good week into bad, scale wise. I'll find out in 2 days when I get home.

Chris - thanks for the tips on low carb. Have you ever heard of the miracle noodle. What's your take on it? It claims low or no carb. Question

Jamie - great pic of your daughter - you must be sooooo proud.

Lynne - I hit that slippery slope today. Hope it was only temporary and didn't do to much harm. Embarassed

Vcravener - welcome back - we all fall off the beaten path once in awhile. Sometimes I feel like I'm on a hamster wheel. haha Shock

Have a great evening, everyone!

Evening, all!

Funny thing...I thought I'd go to bed early (about 7:00 pm) because I was just so tired. When I woke up, the sun was up and the clock said "8:30" so I thought it was the next morning and proceeded to start my day with a cup of coffee, make the bed, etc... Well, as the sun started to go down with each passing minute I realized that it was really 8:30 pm!!! The long days of summer really throw me off! Now I'm full of coffee and have no idea what to do with myself for the night!! LOL

Anyhoo...
Tenkilos- That is great advice, thank you!! I will start with 7 days of induction and then go from there. That won't be too far off from what I've been doing, so I feel pretty confident. But, I think I'll just go back and review the Low Carb Basics page anyway.

Chris- I hear ya on the Atkins "sugar alcohols". I never quite understood what that meant, so when they caused a stall for me I dumped them in the garbage like you did.

Rdrunr- Please don't beat yourself up over a little desert every now and then. You were having a special time with family, so celebrate that. It's what you do 90% of the time that matters, and you've been doing great!! Very Happy

I'll try to check in in the morning if I'm coherent...

Night, everyone!

Just Jumping in Quickly to drop my 2 cents worth.

CGG01
I can't comment on the Atkins bars other than to say that MANY people report problems with them.
When it comes to MISSION CARB BALANCE FLOUR TORTILLAS, let me assure you that they only have 4 grams of carb per tortilla. I have heard of a few people stall on them, but only the ones that eat them 3 or 4 at a time. I incorporated them into my induction diet SPARINGLY and had no ill effects, either it ketosis or in weight loss. I am looking forward to the day I can go OWL and they will be most assuredly a staple in my diet. I encourage you to back off and then try them again. Instead of looking at it like "oh, it's only 4 grams so I can have 3" try just having ONE while maintaining everything else you normally do and see how that works.
On to DREAMFIELDS PASTA - If you had been on this site a month or so ago, you would have seen (and can probably go back and read) where several of us researched this particular product. I myself spoke directly to the Dreamfields customer service group AND to the Dreamfields lab. Again, they do have a patented, verifiable process to protect carbs, HOWEVER, if you don't read the instructions OR if you dont' understand al dente pasta you are in for a rude awakening. You also cannot REHEAT the pasta OR mix it in a sauce where it will continue cooking. Call the people yourself, the number is on the box, and they will be happy to let you speak to anyone that works for them.
I have many boxes, but have only cooked 2 servings. My current dietary use for them is PASTA salad (which in my world has replaced potato salad, a summer side dish). Keep the pasta absolutely al dente, add any salad ingredients you wish and serve ice cold.
I haven't had any experience with AUNT HATTIES bread, but before I get to OWL I will look it up and look forward to trying it based on your results.
Of course, these are just my rantings, feel free to ignore them Smile

JAIME!!!!!
I've been waiting and waiting and waiting. How wonderful for your entire family! I'm 6 hours from San Antonio and I hope your daughter has a little "leave" time to enjoy some of the history there along with the attractions. I dont' know how much you know about SA but it's unbearably hot and humid this time of year. I never have understood what the Navy does there, as it's seriously land locked LOL. But, even my husband, who was AF was stationed there. I'm happy you used her picture Smile I KNOW you will be spending every free minute you have talking to her, and I am thankful that you can do it! I won't even fuss that you made us worry!

VCRAVENER
You might have gotten off track, but it doesn't look like you went gaining. Maybe just "holding", but sometimes that is a reasonable goal! Glad to see you back.

TENKILOS
I know your enjoying GrandMa land! Don't stop. You are so right about how fast they change. The difference every week in a baby's first year are remarkable when you stop to think about it. I do love babies so much!

RDRUNR
So far I haven't been tempted, even by dessert, but then again, no one's offered me Tres Leches LOL I just might pass out! When I'm feeling myself about to fall over the edge I just tell myself there will be plenty of time to adjust for those things AFTER I lose the next 20 pounds.... it's working so far. Like I said, the Key Lime Pie would have been an easy "no"... but when she broke out the Tres Leches I'd probably have broken out in a cold sweat ROFL

JULIE
You nut! Better reset your clock to 24hours. Before Atkins my husband and I drank a pot of coffee every night. After the last kid was in bed, he made a pot and we sat and visited and planned out the next day. I don't drink it anymore (temporarily) but it sure never kept either of us awake and I'm not sure why ROFL, probably because it was taking the coffee just to keep us awake to talk........ not spring chickens anymore Smile

I don't know who I've missed, but it's not deliberate.
Was hoping to hear from RACHEL about her new place and job.
Don't see any noise from MYRNA, but I guess the twins are keeping her hopping now that school's out.
I am definitely missing SUNKEEPERS words of wisdom AND that pretty blue ticker. I think I have 8 more pounds to go to get to blue..... I'm just gonna keep going on autopilot until I get there. Her's is a definite inspiration to me to be sure.

Okay, for anyone who's interested. Summer work is keeping me away, but I am reading all the posts when I get here. I AM recording my weigh-ins daily and posting every bite I eat, even if I don't get to post here.
Have all my family, plus one grown kid here and three additional grandkids for the summer so I really don't have much time to think, but also don't have much time to eat either. I am ramping up the greens as per the new Atkins and I am enjoying it, as I love salad and never tire of it. Still can't quite get MYRNAs salad dressig free route, but I'm sticking with Mayo as my dressing so it's carb free and high in fat ( a little high in calories but okay).

For those of you who are steadily losing, GREAT!!! Keep up the good work, for those of you who aren't, take a good look at what might be derailing you. There is a whole group here willing to help you with whatever you need. ENJOY your summer everyone! Mine's hot and miserable, but good. Still haven't missed my 4 miles even with my trips, but I'll tell you, if I can't get it in before lunch the hardest work I do all day is making myself do it later Smile
Stay focused everyone and POST, I love to read about your advances!

dialup - Thank you!

Gina - I make chips out of the mission low carb and like you have them on occassion. Also, I use the low carb flat-out bread (italian) and have deep fried those too for chips or a 'cracker'. You would think that my daughter would understand the humidity...lol...she did grow up in the South (save for the last 3 years), BUT she did forget. Needless to say that she said she steps outside and is wringing wet and of course she is only allowed to wear her Navy NWUS's right now and they are HOT. I have told her to get to some of the history sites and to take a trip to the River Walk. I think she will love it as much as I did when I visited.

Julie - LOL...I am sorry for your lack of sleep, but that is a FUNNY story.

RDrunr57 - thank you; I am very proud. Don't beat yourself up too much. Just re-focus and move forward.

Linda - thank you! Sounds like you have been having loads of fun with the kiddos!

Vcravener - sounds like we have both been MIA; welcome back.

Chris - congratulations on your success and in inspiring your family

Toni - I hope all is okay with you and the family.

I got to 'facetime' with my daughter last night. Was nice to see her and talk to her at the same time!!!
