Sara! I'm so glad to see you back!
Welcome to all of the new members!

Linda - I think a new challenge sounds like a wonderful idea. I'm all in. I'm currently signed up for an 8 week induction challenge that RavenSoul started. The challenges help keep me on track.

Sunkeeper - I love you to pieces, I also know that you're very direct and straight. Same for you, Gina. I gotta tell you - I very much appreciate that directness and straightforward attitude. To be honest, I didn't see anything in any of the posts that was pointed. But I don't know how anyone else read them.

PDXMom - I know how that goes. My mother-in-law is that person in my life. She did Atkins once in the 80's probably didn't do it right and is under the impression that all I'm eating is meat, cheese and eggs. The thing that kills me about it is that she's spent a week here. She SEES the food that I'm eating - and she eats it too. She loved the Loaded Cauliflower Salad so much that she demanded the recipe. ~sigh~

Okay, I'mm off to start dinner. I'm doing inventory today and even with 2 people doing it, it still took a full 8 hours to do 2 shelves. I still have 4 more to go.
Oh and we have terrible weather predicted for the rest of this week with another string of potentially tornado producing storms on it's way. Fun!

I'm off. Have a great evening, all.

Good morning all, glad to see a few new people and some returningSmile
Welcome back 'Back' ha sounds like a good plan....
Hi again Jen, so easy to get behind with posts and hard to catch up without reading a novel at breakfast!
Brenda, wine was one of my downfalls, as from last Monday I've said no to offers of a drink about 4 times... they look at me as though I've lost it! Crazy woman. I lost all my weight a couple of years ago through cutting it out so I'm TRYING to do that again LOL but when the party is on as you say temptation is there, can't count the number of times I've been on and off this 'diet' - if I'm left to me own devices, cook our meals, stay away from temptation I'm okay... Must say I was good yesterday, was out for a few hours after breakfast, went to a life drawing group till 12.30 pm then supermarket shopping, I had a good look through the food court for some lunch before going into the supermarket-there was NOTHING to eat, must admit it was a very small shopping centre so there was not much choice- donuts gloria jeans etc So I did my groceries and raided them on the way home Smile

Did okay with the carbs yesterday, 13 from veges mainly lunch and dinner, I'm going to make sure I have the bulk at breakfast and lunch today.

I would love it if we could all start afresh, and focus on being positive about losing weight together, that's what we are all here for after all Smile

Hugs to all Linda

ROFL, Yes, Back!
Nothing worse than a "reformed" anything! You had me laughing at the guacamole. One of the things I find really humorous is that of all the things you CAN have on Atkins, avocado comes near the top. Quite frankly, I will eat almost anything that can be chewed, I'm NOT picky, but I CAN NOT make myself eat avocados! Well, those and bananas. I think it must be a texture thing. I'm not really sure what's in guacamole, but I think it's fairly Atkins friendly Smile Now, I'm off for my sugar free jello!

To everyone, I hate to admit this, but one of the easiest ways I've found around the "force" feeding of anything is not a complete lie, but definitely a deception, but one I've learned to use as it seems to stop people in their tracks. Jen, I have to apologize to you for this, as I KNOW you are diabetic. When people want to push me to "just a bite" or "a little can't hurt" I don't bother trying to explain weight loss, Atkins, low carb life-style or anything else.... I just get this little hang-dog look on my face and say, almost in a whine, "Diabetics simply CANNOT have those". Okay, TECHNICALLY it's not a lie. I don't SAY I'm diabetic, and if anyone asks I don't lie, I just say I have to follow a diabetic diet.
While it hasn't always been so, people now seem to be well versed enough in diabetes to leave me alone. I've also found that you can explain deleting carbs as a diabetic diet and people seem to get it, where as if you start with "I'm losing weight by eliminating carbs" you get a completely opposite effect. Anyone within hearing distance will weigh in with their opinions against low carb. LOL Nevermind it is one and the same, it's just perception.
Although I don't normally encourage falsehoods, those of you who really have trouble dealing with the "pushers", try the diabetic diet approach and see if it makes a difference for you. The reality is, that if you continue to gain weight and eat as you are you will become diabetic even if you aren't now. I think Jen will agree and if she doesn't I'm sure she'll tell us something better.

I have done so well (albeit slow) that I truly distressed myself tonight. I don't know if I forgot, got lazy, was starving.. I just don't know. I also don't know how much damage I did. I was frying fish for dinner and I fried three skilletfuls of tilapia for my family and made wonderful mac n cheese and broccoli. I did everyone else's first and then for some reason, rather than clean out the skillet I just tossed my fish in the same pan. I was yapping non-stop on the phone so I guess I just didn't think to clean out the skillet. Their fish was fried in Louisiana Fish Fry and there is no doubt that some of what came off in the skillet stuck to my pieces, but I had already eaten my fish and broccoli before I realized my mistake. The fish fry is cornmeal based so it's not going to be pretty, but the worst part is that I didn't even get to do it on purpose (count the carbs and decide) so I'm aggravated with myself. I'm hoping I'm lucky enough to have done minimal damage and realize I can no longer talk and cook. I definitely am NOT willing to slip up anymore.

I missed my 4 miles this morning, so I'm doing a Myrna and attacking it tonight. I simply will NOT let myself out of it, I'll just have to do it on the treadmill. So., while the rest of you are relaxing and nodding off I'm going to get my lazy behind on that treadmill pronto and promise myself that last SF jello in 1 hour!

Here's hoping my mistake will keep anyone else from the same fate!

EDITED 10:45pm
Okay, not that anyone's interested or even awake, but, I'll take outside any day over the treadmill... or maybe I'd just do better earlier, I b a r e l y made my 4 miles. Ugh. 4 miles 1:03:17.

Carbtracker, I totally agree with you. As for telling people you are diabetic, do what works girl. Telling people Im diabetic here doesnt really work (people arent so well educated on it I guess) Most people will say, "but my grandma is a diabetic and SHE eats rice! A little can't hurt you!" Soooo...at restaurants I tell the servers im allergic. Anywhere else I give it to them straight, tell them what I am doing, how much weight Ive lost and that I dont want to mess that up, thank you but no thank you.

OK, I wasn't going to, but I weighed myself... I guess the party wine has lasting effects Sad How frustrating. I am having such conflicting emotions right now.

I noticed the few days after, I was hungrier. I also noticed that I had more of my Quest bars (CHO 21, Fiber 17, Sugar Alc 1 for net=3g)since I was traveling, than normal and missed 2 work outs. Damn it!

I was so close to going under 170...

Drinking water, eating veggies! On the wagon...

PDX Brenda, eating and drinking the wrong foods does make me hungrier too, a feeling I don't have on LC. That's why anyone bombing out should jump back on ASAP, because those cravings get worse - I suggest extra fat and protein for a couple of days to curb those cravings!

I had 14nc from veges yesterday. The brussells sprouts helped get them up for the day, I had them with a roast chicken, love them!

Working today, and a new grandchild -boy, on the way, my daughters water broke and she's in the first stages of labour. I have a friend who was expecting a boy after 2 scans confirmed it... oops it was a girl!

Tenkilos-
Congrats on the soon to be baby! Gosh I love babies. They are my favorite thing in the whole world!
Brussel sprouts are one of my fav foods. I wonder why I never ate them.... they must be higher than other greens. When I eat them I want the whole bag, they are sooooo good. Specially slathered in butter. I'm going to have to see how many carbs mine have, maybe I'll have a few.

Brenda,
I am thankful every day that I don't drink. It seems to be the hardest for low carbers... but I will say that my Diet Coke seems to almost cause the same problem.... makes me crave other things. Of course, I didn't have any wine and I've been teasing that 159 since I saw a glimpse at the end of last week....I am trying to cut my calorie intake as I seem to be in maintenance before my time Smile

Myrna,
Is coconut oil a solid or a liquid? I can't seem to find it. BTW, I have purchased Almond Milk which is now sitting next to my CarbQuick, Almond Meal, Whey Protein Dreamfields pasta and whatever other thing that looked interesting, but lost its appeal when I got it home.

Jen,
You know what's mind-boggling is that the last time I lost the necessary 40lbs people were more inclined to leave me alone before I was thin (and yes, I was THIN, 119 lbs). Once I hit 119 they were constantly telling me that "well, you don't need to watch it anymore". How ignorant can you get? Although I really only needed to be at 125 I planned that 119 to leave room to bounce should I feel the need. I managed to stay between 119 and 125 for over 20 years and it certainly didn't happen eating every thing every body tried to talk me into. I have pictures at 119 I'll find and post. If you ask me now I'll tell you that it was too thin, but I certainly didn't think so then.

A question for walker/runners. I have developed what I originally thought were blisters, but now seem to be large, painful, soft blister-like areas that are dry. I have one on each foot (different places) and I am near tears by the end of the first mile. I'm still making my 4 miles in just over an hour, but the areas seem to be getting worse. Thought I'd ask you guys before I head to the Dr's office for advice. I really don't want to even slow down walking so any ideas/advice are welcome.

I've also been experiencing FS error messages every time I post, so I'm back to logging in and out everytime.

Hope everyone has a great low carb weekend.

Hey everyone just got a quick question. I'm having some trouble getting in ketosis. my diet has been very strict this past week lunch: half head brocoli, with butter and melted cheese and either 2 pork chops or chicken breasts, and diner has been the same. Im drinking only water too. Could it be the broccoli?? is half a head too much in one sitting??

Ah ha! I CAN POST!

Okay, I spent yesterday trying to post and just couldn't. On top of that, I've been getting "unread messages in inbox" alerts and there's nothing in there. So if you've sent me a message and I've not replied, I'm so sorry.
The storms passed us completely by. Which is very good as the same storm system dropped two tornadoes in Oklahoma.

Armourer - without looking at your food chart, I'm not sure what might be keeping you from getting into ketosis. Are you weighing out or measuring the amount of broccoli that you're eating? What kind of cheese is it? Some American cheeses use wheat and that could potentially keep you from hitting ketosis.
Try upping your good fats, (olive oil, avocado, coconut oil, etc.) to see if that helps.

Gina - Coconut oil is solid at room temperature. I find it in the health food section at Wal-Mart. Where the coconut flour, almond flour, etc. are.
Also, the brussels sprouts that I get are 5 net carbs per 1 cup. They are a little high but I find them really useful for boosting my veggie carbs on days that I need them.

Linda - thank you for the kind words. We made it through with no issue at all. Congratulations on the grandchild!
I hope everything goes well. Smile

I'm off. My fiancee is on vacation for a week and I still have to finish cataloging inventory. PLUS, I got a shipment of new glass bottles in yesterday so I have label designing to do.

Be good to yourselves and stay the course. I'll be checking in sporadically over the next week.

Hi ALL,
TONI-
FS is driving me bonkers! Can't post weights, can't add food unless it adds each item 5 times, then I have to delete them all, won't post my weight unless I log in .ca, but POST? Nah, lol, they let me post my million words a day!
I'll have to make another trip to Walmart. I did not see that coconut oil when I bought my almond meal. Makes sense that it would be in the same place. I'll just LOOK harder! Thanks.

ARMOUR
I am looking at your diet calendar. I'm wondering why you thought it might be the broccoli? Ketosis is achieved by forcing your body to burn stored fat instead of the carbohydrates you are consuming. Unless I'm reading it wrong, or am on someone elses calendar you are eating oatmeal, rice, eating bread, chocolate chip granola bars, bananas and yogurt and drinking orange juice. Not one of these items is allowed on Atkins induction, so maybe you are on a diet I am not familiar with. Maybe someone else here will have better insight for you.

Just quickly because we are still busy here Ks still not had the baby- water broke upper area Wed, they induced her today... (Sat) still no baby but imminent (now 5.30pm) poor girl!

Just wanted to say to Armourer, that's not a low carb diet you are doing, check out the Atkins website for all the info' you need, free lessons. It would be very advisable to buy the book too, A New Atkins for a New you, or any other LOW CARB book. Knowledge is the key.
If you need advice or have any questions we are all here to help you Smile just ask away.

Just a random drop in--I hope everyone is doing good and staying safe. I'm thinking of all of you in harms way with all of the different weather situations going on!!!!

Quick update on me--I'm still low carb and holding on--at least now I know I can maintain once I hit the maintance stage LOL because I'm not losing an ounce. I am being a bit lax about it but trying to stay as LC as possible.

I also want to say a special THANK YOU to all of my sideline cheer leaders not only for supporting me in my Low Carb choices but in my personal goals as well. I finally got my Diploma in the mail this past week along with my Certified Professional Coder (CPC)certificate. Then I had an interview and got a great job offer in an excellent community. So life just got a bit more complicated for the next month or so as I wrap up one job and begin the new one. I also have the moving challenges to battle and get back into the swing of doing things completely on my own.

I hope you all have a great low carb week and I'll try to check back in soon!

Linda-Congratulations! You are speaking my language, I begin nurse midwifery school in October Smile

Been at a conference for the last 2 days and I stayed on plan! Funny how easy it was to watch people eat all those carbs (bagels, decadent chocolate deserts, cookies, pastries) and not be strayed. I really have the feeling that they are poison now. Especially knowing the disease that goes with the consumption of all that sugar and simple cho.

Now, if I couldn't do coffee, I would not make it. I even had a diet soda each day (I never have) and I have to say they were so satisfying! I am glad they didn't make me hungrier!

Speaking of coffee, it is calling! Have a great LC day everyone!

Morning, all. I'm so excited to begin a new challenge tomorrow. 8 weeks on induction... I think that is about the time I need to get my body reset, though. Anyone else doing that challenge? I'm going to try to cook my way through "Linda's low carb induction recipes/menus" (there's enough there to be on induction for a whole year, I'm thinking!) I'm so grateful for other people who are willing to share their successes for those of us who are clueless (me). I love that she has so many that are suitable for freezing because I was considering getting those frozen Atkins dinners for work. I'm not the best at getting my lunch together everyday but if I have it ready beforehand, I AM capable of grabbing something from the freezer. Smile

Hope everyone has a successful day!
