Happy Hump Day All!
Quick post this a.m. I have figured out that if I post to my challenges in the early morning it takes. Who knows. Maybe the system is just overloaded in the evenings. Regardless, it either makes me a day early or a day late.
Sunkeeper, I agree that the NDR from Atkins is broader, but every single time I even branch out with anything new in induction I have problems. Plus, I don't have any trouble following the "old" way. I am adding in some new products and I do add in my vegs now (which I didn't in '85). But, since that Ham/Cheese Omelet from Waffle House on Sunday and 2/3 MIM on Monday I'm up over 2lbs. Nothing else on my food calendar to account for it. Nothing. Of course, it could just be normal correction and fluctuation, but it just happened to fall behind the MIM.. LOL. I'm truly not interested in most of the new products. And I don't like artificial sweeteners, although I have purchased almost everyone on the market. I DID, at one point, like sweetened coffee, but now I pretty much take it black. I even got tired of trying the cream. I'm not much of a sweet eater, my issue has always been starches. I've purchased Dreamfields pasta (about 10 of them) and they are still sitting in the pantry, untried. I purchased the Carbquick and made 3 biscuits, ate almost 2, and it's still in the pantry, unused. I have the original small box of flax seed meal and have had, I think 3 MIMs in 2 months. My biggest downfall has always been fruit. Not fruit juice, just fruit. The minute I get that weight to a manageable number I go fruity...lol. I think that's why I'm in love with the SF Jello. Not the sweetness of it, the fruit taste. I quite honestly could live on SF Jello. Of course, that couldn't possibly be healthy and we all know what happens when your body goes into starvation mode and I DO like other things, but I don't really crave anything. Even though those cream cheese clouds sound delightful, I haven't made any. When I get hungry I usually eat a protein and that solves the problem. I love all meats, eggs, fish, cheese and seafood so there's never really any need to use anything else.
OH.. I lie!!!! The one thing I've found that I think I am really going to enjoy are the 4 carb flour tortillas. I bought a pack about a month ago and tried one for a shrimp taco and I TRULY TRULY loved it. The other 7 are still in the fridge. I think I was either born Atkins or raised it. My Mom was the original "sugar is an abomination" preacher. I can't ever remember having anything that wasn't sweetened with sacharrin as a child, including Koolaid (which, when sweetened with sugar should be removed from the marketplace). We never drank sodas (The only SF drink I can actually remember from that time was Tab and Fresca.. yuuuuuuck). Our tea was unsweetened (still drink it that way today) and our few desserts that were baked were SF. Our main dessert was fruit. Sometimes with a topping, but mostly not and occasionally we had ice cream. A very rare delight was baking cookies with Mom. We rarely ate pasta, maybe once a month spaghetti, rarely saw rice (grinning: except for Campbells' Chicken n Rice), but we were served potatoes and white bread on a regular basis. We invariably had a salad with our dinner meal. Now I'm laughing....belly laughing... That's pretty much the way I cook for my family daily. Mostly now the proteins are grilled, roasted or pan fried. There is usually a small serving of some type of whole grain pasta, brown rice, or sweet potatoe, several vegetables, salad, then fresh fruit with or without yogurt for dessert. The only actual refined sugar my kids get comes from, believe it or not, school. My friends learned a LONG time ago not to offer my kids anything without checking with me first!
Oh, I digress. Made a wonderful trip down memory lane there! I did have a wonderful childhood. What the heck, my whole life has pretty much been that way.
By now you guys have figured out that I start this post before my walk and never finish until I get back.. it's like a crazy stream of consciousness writing. BUT, I figure you guys don't HAVE to read it. LOL. Okay, I'm going to get my morning meal (brunch? I guess) I wish FS had more meal time options, like brunch... what am I saying? I just wish FS would work, period!
Hoping everyone realizes their own worth today, and makes this today the only day that matters. YOU are worth the effort!

Gina - I believe that Waffle House uses flour or pancake mix with their eggs/ omelets to make them fluffier. I may wrong. I know that IHOP does.

CarbTracker - For rudimentary crunches, check out this link. BTW: Not suggesting that you're a dummy. Smile It's been tough for me, as I used to be in very good shape. It took years for me to trash my body, and will take years to get it back.

Thanks for all the helpful feedback Smile

What I was trying to say is that I am frustrated that I cannot lose (though under my RDI!!) UNLESS my carbs are under 20gm, not that the PLAN doesn't work. Lamenting I guess. Just doesn't make sense! Honestly, my work outs are much harder when I am carb deprived... Waaaa, I would have wine with my cheese, but that would put me over my allotted carbs LOL.

Back on the wagon...

Brenda

PS I drink a s##t ton of water, and have read "the new Atkins for a new you" and "the art and science of low carb living" ( this one is super heavy on the science, very interesting)

This cold has me sleeping all night and all afternoon. I haven't been on my exercycle in like two weeks. I am so tired of being sick.

5/1=24
5/2=16
5/3=39
5/4=18
5/5=16
5/6=24
5/7=26
5/8=13

These are my net carbs for the last 8 days... The average is 22 gm/day. I guess just a few tweaks will get me under 20. Forgive my "newbie" rants while I figure this out with you Smile

PDXMOM: I just took a look at your journal...I hope you don't mind...you are on the right track, but I would try and get your sodium down...it's a booger, but plays a big part in your weight...hang in there! Smile

I will try the sodium, thanks Myrna! I wasn't paying attention to it because I thought it was a non issue with VLC diets due to the diuresis. In fact a few weeks ago I had to add broth due to muscle cramps... Humph.

Good morning all my low carbing friends.

Jen, that's a real bummer after all your hard work but hey, next weigh in will be even better with the dropped water weight, it's still all really good so not to worry. I'm so proud of what you've accomplished, we all have bumps in the road and I think it's just to irritate us or to make us stronger, madder, more determined than ever!

Chris, it may have taken years to get to where you are but if you work really hard it'll be months to fix it. Every day you try your doing better and your body will thank you big time for it. You don't have to be 18 again, just be healthy, don't over do but make your heart work and treat the vessel your living in with respect now, the rest will look after itself in a much shorter time frame than you think. Forgiving little thing this bag of bones we live in, thank goodness.

Myrna, I don't have any doubts at all your going to blow everyone away at that reunion. You'll be the belle of the ball girl, can't wait for those pics!

Brenda, this journey can be quite frustrating at times with no rhythm or reason to why the numbers are what they are. (we think) Your just being tested to see if you really want to be healthier, if you do you'll figure it out. Newbie rants are good, it's the ones that don't ask for help, don't lose anything but know everything that bother me. We're all here to make sure you get where you want to go in the shortest period of time possible without being silly about it. 20 carbs a day with 14 of those from leafy greens, keep the protein and fat as well as calories in the right zone and you'll loose. I had to be at 75-80% fat, 10 protein and 10 carbs to be consistent. The amount of protein you eat should be no more than your weight times .37. I've said I don't know how many times on here, it's all about the math, really not much about what we eat. If you can do math you can lose weight, how silly is that? Not having enough carbs is just as bad or can be worse than going over, people just don't seem to understand that, we do need carbs for fuel, just eat the right carbs. If you were to only eat 5 or 10 carbs, none of which are green veggies, a day your going to lose muscle and bone, why some think it'll make the pounds come off quicker is just beyond me. I know you already know all this but sometimes it's nice to just have a reminder of the high lights. Get the numbers right and drink water, when you think you've drank enough have another glass! Toni taught me that, I had the numbers right on but was stuck for a month, she told me to drink more than I was and in days the numbers went down and never stopped again. I had been drinking about 75 oz a day which I felt was lots, upped that to 125 and bingo, weight fell off. Now who'd of ever thought water was the culprit? Am still so grateful to Toni and the others that helped me along the way.

Dorothy, gobble, gobble back at ya! You always bring a smile to my face. Hope the challenges you face are not big, little humps that you can just skip over and be on your way. Life can certainly get in our way at times, it's trying for sure. Thinking bout you girl and wishing you the best while you work through it all.

Poor Rowan, sure hope you do feel better and soon. Your not having a good spell of it for sure. Don't know what to tell you other than feel better and soon, am at a loss if the blue nail polish didn't fix all that is bad. Looking forward to our bubbly Rowan being back really soon.

Time for me to slosh my way out the door. I'm sure you all hear me come in every morning and when I go back out again. I slosh my way through every day and I love it. Like shaking a dirty jar, the more water you splash up the sides the cleaner it gets. It's about the same with the fat floating around in us, clean it out people!

Whoaaa hoa
Katy bar the door!! Forget the numbers! Holy Moly! You guys, guess what!!?!?!? I was flying around this morning. Did my 4 miles, came in, put two fantastic casseroles for a school function together, threw them in the oven and scrambled to the shower. Quick shower, jumped out, toweled off, grabbed for my clothes and.. and... what? What's this? I see DAYLIGHT where there should be NO Daylight. Between my THIGHS!!!! I couldn't believe it! No air circulation between those babies in a lonnnnnnnnnnnng time. I sashayed over to the scales and just stuck out my tongue!
What a happy event for a Thursday!

TONI - Waffle house uses nothing but eggs. I've checked repeatedly AND watched. It has to be the ham and the cheese, but what the heck kind of ham and cheese has 10? Must be pretend cheese! I do love the new option on their menu. Your side doesn't have to be grits or hashbrowns. NOW you get the option of sliced tomatoes for your side... yummy. IHOP does use pancake batter HOWEVER, you guys should know, all you have to do is order your omelet "cracked eggs" and they use just that. I LOVE IHOP, they already had that figured that out on their own.. lol.

CHRIS - You're great! Just what I needed. A "Dummy" manual. Honestly, I am going to have to have someone actual watch me for a few times. I KNOW I have to be doing it wrong because I can do way to many. I'll let you know how many I can really do after someone corrects me.

ROWAN - Girl! Chin up! Surely that icky sick can't hang on forever. Try the chicken bouillon. "Feed a fever, starve a cold". We miss you Smile

Brenda - Smile We don't care if you rant, silly, that's why we're all here! You're getting it! Just remember though, you're not working on gas mileage... averages do not count!.. LOL.. I can't wait to see what your chart looks like when you actually hit that carb count!

MYRNA - I applaud you. There is no way I could do biking. My knees simply won't allow it at this point. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to "graduate" from walking to biking. I'm so happy that your ticker works, and every time I see that new photo I can't help but grin. I see your mention to Brenda about the sodium.. I guess it wouldn't hurt me to check that on my own. Reunion? This is about a reunion? Heck, I have one coming up too, but haven't decided whether or not I'm going. I missed the last one. I guess I should go, I'll probably get an award for the youngest kids ROFL. This will be my 40th reunion. Kind of hard to get excited about them anymore.

DOROTHY - Life challenges? Really. Okay, we'll let you off with a warning, but as soon as that chicken settles we'll expect a full report!

JEN - !!!! Midnight snacks???? No., not you! No way! I'm thinking it's got to be water retention. Do you know that my Dr told me (and I don't think he's a quack) that if I were to change NOTHING in your diet, but have nothing but water after 7pm, sleep by 11pm and ate breakfast by 8am you would lose weight. Shrugging, don't look at me! I'd never try it... I'm just deciding WHAT to eat by 7pm!
*btw, the ticker will always fix itself if you're up!*

SUNKEEPER - ahhhh the blue! What an inspiration! I sometimes wonder about the zero carbers. There are several scientific studies that warn against that, not just Dr Atkins. Long time ago people just took vitamins to offset the nutrient loss from going zero, but as you all know, artificial vitamins are not the best way to go. PLUS, most vitamins and nutrients are readily available in fresh NO to LOW carb vegetables, so why would they not use them? My "go-to" besides salad is spinach. Not only do I love it, it has most everything you need and is virtually carbless. I ran out yesterday and just ate what I was feeding my family. Cut green beans. 2/3 cups = 2net carbs. Since I had already had plenty of salad I just went with 1/3 cup for 1carb. (Sounds righteous doesn't it....ROFL. it wasn't. I don't like cut green beans). I was flabbergasted at your water intake! I thought when I upped my water to 64 oz a day I was floating! I did manage one day at 100, but the rest I've prided myself on being at 64! Are you drinking 125 consistently? I never considered doing more than about 80. For some reason though, I recently realized that it's easier for me to drink it if I do it through a straw. That's psychological, has to be, but it works. Currently I am drinking absolutely NOTHING but water. Three weeks ago I eliminated all the diet coke and am having one cup of black coffee on Sunday morning (or with a squeeze of MonkFruit if I'm feeling spry).
I guess these last few days weight gain could be attributed to not enough fluid. I guess I'll try to up the water, but I absolutely can't drink it before my walk or it makes me physically ill. I thought I was sloshing at 64oz!!! It certainly can't hurt to try! I'm so glad you thought to write that down. I'm sure the long-timers here already realized it, but I certainly didn't. Even knowing how important that water intake is! So far my only problem with the water is that I'm already up twice a night to potty... what will another 30 - 60 oz do? I have to sleep sometime!!! Speaking of sleep (another Dr nugget of wisdom), most overweight people suffer from a lack of sleep. I absolutely agree with him on that one. I really don't sleep much. Okay, so I'm going to sleep AND drink more. I think I'll log my water somewhere so I can be totally accurate..... or ya'll can just listen for me to slosh by.....

Have a great low carb Thursday because YOU are worth it!

You guys make me laugh! Such a delight to read your posts...and thank you for the advice. To summarize:

-OK we all know the 20 w/15 green
-Protein (weight in lbs x .37/day). Mine is 64 right now.
-Water...I am at around 64 oz right now (2 liters), but will up it to 96 oz this week (3 liters!!! not doing a gallon right now)
-Sodium...I will try and keep it around 2g

Oh, and I am going to add running on Sat (in addition to kick boxing M,W,F). BTW, I punched a hole in my boxing gloves yesterday!!! I was sitting their wailing on the bag and I saw some things dropping on the ground and thought "Ewwwe what's that?". Then I felt a little breeze on my hand, stopped and looked at it and there was a hole about the size of a pea with stuffing comming out! Yep, and not even on a seam... Only took me 6 months, but I busted through Smile

Happy LC day everyone,

Hi Ya'll....

Gina: I decided to do this before I found out about the reunion...but that just gives me extra incentive to move it on off!

KID STORY....Got a call from Nana yesterday on my way home from work....One of the twins had a couple buddies over and he and one of the boys talked the other boy into dialing 911.....repeatedly! 3 boys are in big trouble and 2 of them were old enough to know better! YIKES!!! I had that deer in the headlight look standing in the store, and I really had to force myself to go pick the kids up....the BAD one cried half the night. I grounded him from the Ipad and computer till the end of the month (he plays this game he loves) and he has to write an apology letter to the 911 operator. He's only in 1st grade...the other 2 boys are 3rd and 4th....geeesh... Enough about me....HOW WAS YOUR DAY DEAR??? lol
