Thank heaven for kids.... I get to stop working long enough to go pick them up from school... at least for a another 3 weeks!
Yes, MIM. You have to like nutty and eggy or you won't like them. I like both, but I didn't realize until today how many calories they had....I entered a whole one on my food diary today, but only ate about 2/3.. ha.. it was holding up my cream cheese! Another thing about them is that you will feel REALLY REALLY full for a very very long time.. LOL. I don't have a real recipe, but I know without a doubt that I had to add baking soda to mine. The flax seed meal isn't cost prohibitive, so give it a try! (Walmart $2.58 ) I'm LOVING your ticker!
Okay Dialup, I'll wait for the "official" weight. (But that sneak preview is looking good). I stay, pretty much on induction, until within 10 lbs. Just for me OWL is excruciatingly slow, and induction is easy cause I know what I can have. But your numbers are doing so well it might be easy for you!
Now, back outside to get that yard into so decent shape!

Quick check in, today.
The weather is finally starting to look better. We've been in the 60's here and there's sun.
Alas, as much as I want to go play outside, I have a ton of stuff to do still.
Have a great day, all!

Um, I am SOOOOO sore! Yeah, I guess I have a hard time realizing I'm not 30 anymore Smile I thought I would be ok with all the kickboxing I do, but different muscles are used, obviously!

Had a sad day at the office... I love my job and most of the time its amazing and happy, but when it is sad, it's pretty darn terrible.

Thank you all for the support. It is wonderful to be on this journey with ALL of you. I must bathe the boys and read stories Smile

Good Tues morning gang and good for you cgg, way to go! It's hard to stay away from the temptations, especially in the beginning but you'll be so glad you did, it's worth it in the long run or the grand scheme of things.

Myrna, you haven't tried MIM yet? They are fab, so many different ways of doing them, they keep you full for a very long time and are so worth the calories. Be a great lunch for anyone, make it at home and take along with you. I keep a bunch all made up of different sorts in baggies already to just add the egg in and nuke, 1 minute later I have a meal. You can put all the ingredients in a baggie, take it and an egg to work if you have a microwave and have it fresh made as well. Add in any of the SF syrups to change the flavor even more.

Jen, we're all going to be sitting on pins and needles waiting out the next 2 days with you, you'll have such a great number to announce, can't hardly wait.

Toni, waiting on some really good numbers from you too soon. Glad your weather has improved, it's so nice to see the sun for a change and get outside. Also good to be busy with the business though too I'm sure.

I hear ya on not being 30 anymore Brenda, can so notice how I can't go like I use to and it drives me nuts. I have so much to get done but just seem to be moving at a snail's pace. The one good thing is I know the garden fairy isn't moving any quicker, the work is there the next morning for me when I don't get it all done the day before. Dang fairy needs to step it up a bit I think and help out some more!

Still keeping on keeping on here, another day, another weigh in and another error message. Dang I wish they'd get it together, have to check in now to both .ca and .com to get it to register. Start out the day frustrated and sending off another snarly note on the error message isn't my idea of a good thing. Martha would be so disappointed.

Hoping your day is full of happiness, lots of exercise, buckets of water and not many carbs. Keep on track, you'll be happy you did when the sun sets tonight.

Happy Tuesday All!

Toni, here's hoping you have a work fairy to help you so you can get out and enjoy a day.

Brenda- 30? Sheesh. I have to think REAL hard to remember actual 30, but I know, in my heart, I'm not a day over 25. Bodies are tricky things... LOL. They just don't keep pace with our heads!

Sunkeeper - I have a "kinda" recipe for MIM. I read your idea about carrying the dry ingredients and carrying an egg. Sounds easy enough, lol, but, I grinned when I realized that when I make mine I start with butter, add baking soda, add in the egg and mix THEN add the flax meal. I have no idea why I do it that way! I am going to look into the SF syrup. I'm thinking blueberry would definitely do the trick in my case. When my hubby goes to Houston I'll have him find some. He's a good hunter! If he can't find it I'll order from Netrition. AND, you are correct. It is, to me, very high in calories, but because it's almost straight fiber I feel almost stuffed after eating a whole one, unless it IS the meal. Yesterday I ate 2/3 WITH a full meal and honestly, I couldn't get up all afternoon. Between it and 64 oz of water I had a hard time not just taking a nap! I actually only ate a cup of chicken and a SF jello last night for dinner and this morning I'm still a little puffy. Of course, I COULD have eaten only half, or heck, even waited until THIS morning to make it instead of eating it on a full meal.... but nooooo.

Oh, BTW, the Monk Fruit sweetener (Walmart - 0g). It took me a few days, but I finally figured out a "squirt" for my coffee. I normally only drink coffee on Sunday mornings, but I did Friday, Sat & Sun. On Friday I poured out two cups and was about to give up when I realized I might not be squeezing hard enough. Both cups were very bitter tasting (So, I poured the third cup and tried if first, thinking my hubby might have just messed up the coffee hehe. But the coffee was fine). I gave a good hard squirt and, voila', sweetened coffee!!! VERY sweet, lol, too sweet for me (but I'm sure fine for most people). I poured out about 1 1/2 inch from my mug and filled it back up and it was soooooo purrrrfect! I've been drinking black coffee for months now. That was a welcome treat. The package says 1 squirt equals 1 teaspoon sugar and that is probably accurate. It's very sugary tasting. So, I had some Sat and Sun and both cups I managed to get right in one try. It says you can cook with it (rolling eyes) I guess, since I put it in scalding coffee! I haven't tried it in anything else. I will attempt at some time in the future to use it in SF jello. Today I am going to try the Diet Ocean Spray (2g 8oz) to make SF jello. It won't be Zero, but it'll be very low and worth it if I don't have to figure out how to sweeten it!! In the meantime I'm just eating the SF with aspartame. I will get what I intended to buy (liquid sucrolose - very same container as MonkFruit) to try before this weekend.

On the same note, but a different product, my Carbquick is stored in a container in the pantry. I bought the three pound box and made 3 biscuits, of which I ate 2, used 1/2 for my hub and kids to try and threw 1/2 away. They were good, no complaints. Just haven't bothered to try anything else yet. I'm thinking it will be a great item to have in maintenance. Last night made fried chicken, and without thinking battered and fried all but one piece in a big skillet. My one piece I seasoned and pan fried in olive oil in another skillet. I made loaded mashed potatoes and corn and a green salad. I had intended to eat my chicken on the salad, but I was too stuffed from the morning's MIM to eat it..LOL. Anyway, the point is, that I didn't even think about the Carbquick 'til I read Toni's post. I guess I'm just too far back Atkins. It's just easier for me to do without because it's second nature. There was NO carbquick or monk fruit or a million other low carb options when I used Atkins as weight loss the last time, and I just lived lower carb/high calorie or mid carb/low calorie for the next 25 years without ever noticing the influx of a million new low carb options. I think when I make my goal this time I will learn to incorporate all the new items. Things like low carb flour tortillas will make my live infinitely easier and better. I did eat ONE from a package of 8, the other 7 are still there, but again, I think they will be best left for maintenance. Mine taste just exactly like any other flour tortilla. I really hope they don't stop making them!!
Okay, I've yammered on enough for one morning. Must be the left over flax meal..LOL.... I've really got to get moving. Do my walk, get this house in some semblance of order and get out and work those fence lines before it gets hot.
Here's wishing everyone a happy, healthy, low carb day. Remember the only person YOU can control is YOU, and YOU are worth it!

Just finished my chocolate MiM for breakfast with one sweet, fresh strawberry. Yum. I have actually stopped using butter/coconut oil in my MiMs. They don't seem to suffer (and not having to melt something is one less step). I use 1 tbsp of almond flour and 1 tbsp of coconut flour as the base. Flaxseeds are much drier so maybe they need the butter. Whomever invited MiMs was a genius!

It's quite the coincidence that while staring at my industrial sized bag of flax meal from Costco - I decided to make a MiM. Had not even heard of it before, and found a decent recipe.

It was along the lines of 1/4 cup flax meal, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp of artificial sweetener (I had none so I used sugar! Doh! 4 grams of carbs like that!), 1 tsp cinnamon powder. Mix well. In a separate bowl, beat one egg and 1 tbsp of butter (soft or melted is easiest), and combine the dry and wet to create the batter.

I scraped the sides of the bowl down to make a pretty little muffin, and nuked it on high for 1 minute. Popped it out of the bowl, transferred to a plate flipped it upside down, and nuked it for 10 seconds.

Sliced it in half, buttered it - and boom. Not bad at all. I imagine removing cinnamon and adding something savory will allow me to create a breadlike substance suitable for a dinner roll of sorts.

Adding this link for a similar recipe.

Started a challenge - 25 crunches per day for six weeks. Not trying to do too much at once, but thought this was achievable. Interestingly enough, 25 crunches was WAY harder than I remember.

Take care all,

Chris

Morning all, A note to anyone new to using flax meal, you have to keep it in the freezer after opening the package, or it will go rancid.

If your flax has been out of the freezer and has a fishy smell, toss it!

Chris: Sounds good and good luck on those crunches!! DIALUP: Thanks for the tip...GINA: I guess I better order some Carbquick...SUNKEEPER: Great Idea about taking it to work...I have seen alot of variations in my research today...Can I have yours as a starting point?

I thought since my ticker was working again it was time to update the picture!

Quick check in again today, I'm prepping for summer updates so it's crunch time for me for the next week or so.

I liked the MiM's, I just can't eat them at all. Which totally bummed me out ad I am so jealous of all of you that can eat them.

Gina - Carbquik is nice to have around but I, (like you), focus mostly on whole foods. It's good that it's second nature for you! That makes the whole process so much easier.

Chris - If you haven't tried oopsie rolls, do give them a try! They make sandwiches possible and I'm a huge fan.

Dorothy, Myrna, Jaime and Sunkeeper - I love you ladies so much. You all brighten my day.

Okay, off for a while.
xoxo

Ok you guys... What the heck... I am not getting this language at all!!! I got what MIM is/are, but don't understand why some eat them and others don't... Do they stop weightloss? and is the carbquick the same as far as stalling WL?

Also, PLEASE tell me what all this color talk is...Like when do I turn yellow? or blue? and is that my line or my number or both?

So, my body is feeling better today Smile I went over on my carbs yesterday (29) eating nothing of excitement. I am kind of struggling with the thought of being unable to lose if I eat more than 20g/day. Does that mean my body is super CHO resistant? ARGH! Seriously... I might as well do South Beach or something else then if I am not consistantly losing! I am still under my RDI (but not too low! wouldn't want to go into starvation mode ;0) Such a fine line with all this.

Well enough of my tyrade.Lol

Have a great rest of the day!

Brenda - I can't eat them because no matter how much water I drink, they, "back me up" and uncomfortably so.
I haven't noticed the same issue with Carbquik or it causing a stall. Interestingly enough, I'm allergic to a number of grains, wheat included, but Carbquik doesn't effect me at all.

On the colors, it's the weight ticker. Yours is currently red. I'm not sure how FS determines when the weight ticker changes.

Hope that helps!

GRRRRR
I'm done with this! FS just ate another 3 mile post. Okay, condensed version.

Hungry all day, unsure reason, holding off dinner til 7:30 which is why I'm posting.

MYRNA!!! Fab pic girl. I'm so proud of you AND your ticker.

BRENDA!!! YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG! LOL.. It's not the diet. Get those carbs under 20. Check my diet calendar for easy, fast, carb friendly answers. Don't know about green or blue, ask Sunkeeper. I went yellow at about 48% goal. MIM's nor Carbquick has had any adverse effect on me, but have only used a few times.

ROWAN - Chocolate MIMs sound divine. Have cocao powder for baking. Will try when I get to green.

DIALUP - my flax is in the fridge, hope that's good enough (smells okay)

CHRIS - Need monumental help with crunches. Last attempt was disastrous. Need elementary directions. Will give 100%.

TONI- I'm sorry about your flax issue. I've enjoyed what little I've had. But, I've never even attempted an oopsie roll, so I guess you use that instead, which is great for you. I'm glad your work is busy!

ALMOST50 - i can only WISH i would have had enough sense to address the weight issue at 10 pounds. I see you are green already! Good for you.. way to stay on top of things.

SUNKEEPER - You are a delight. In your words and your ticker! I love logging on to your blue and your words of wisdom and inspiration!

JAIME ???? Where are you? We'd love to hear from that daughter too!

RACHEL - I know you have things under control now. You were steadily marching in that direction. Let us know how things are going!

Everyone else, happy carbs to you, until we post again!

It's a low carb Wed, I'm blue and all is right with the world!

Gina, any recipe that calls for butter you can sub in coconut oil, better for you in the grand scheme of things. If you use it in MIM's you can pre mix the ingredients in a bag without worry. I never like those "hungry" days and have never figured out why we get them but they do pass. I, like you, have done Atkins pretty much from the 1st book, the new way in my opinion far out weighs the old system by a mile. Might be in your best interest to forget the old and get with the new as soon as you can. Your livin in the past, there's a whole new world out there for you to explore!

Chris, lots of different recipes out there for MIM's, you can do almost anything with the darn things. Another reason I use the coconut oil is to help stop the "back up" problem some have experienced with them, you also have to remember to drink an extra glass of water which bulks up the flax seed to a gel rather than a solid block! They are my go to when in a hurry, pre mixed makes it so easy to pop in the microwave then add cream cheese, egg salad, ham salad or anything you have on hand and poof, a meal in a minute....

For anyone making MIM, don't forget to soak the dish once you've removed the muffin, far easier clean up if it's not given a chance to bake on to the dish. Fill it up with hot water quickly and just leave it.

Myrna, I have 2 different ones that I pre make, I'll put both on the recipe thread if they aren't there already but please yes, use them. No excuse for not having lunch every day of the week even when working and it gets the fibre into you quickly which we all seem to need doing low carb. Love the new pic, wow, you've come a looooong way girl, keep it up! Those 2 little angels will think your a stranger and be really good until Mommy comes back!

Toni, like you I love oopsie rolls/buns. If I make a batch I'll put the extras in between wax paper in a baggie left open in the fridge, they keep well and can be used for days after to make a sandwich or just use as a bun with dinner. If you close the bag up they tend to get soggy, leave it open and they are fresh as a daisy.

Brenda, some find that to much fibre blocks up the system. I've not had that problem but I do make sure I have at least 2 oz of coconut oil per day which I think lubs the innards to help with that. Each day I have 2 coconut oil candies which is 1 oz and then either use it to cook something, in a MIM or somehow even if it's having to eat 4 candies, horrors! If you read up on it 2 oz a day is recommended and while I've always had a back up problem, since finding this info it's helped a great deal as a solution. It's really important to drink lots of water while eating MIM's too or the flax will just be a big block, nothing for the fibre to absorb. I've never heard anyone complain they experienced a stall, it's just some don't do fibre well. When I was actively losing weight I could NOT go over 20 carbs a day or it just made the numbers go the wrong way. Now that I'm in maintenance I seem to be able to go as high as 50 with not much in the way of ill effect, maybe 2/10's of a lb but that's it. Appears to be more a slow and steady rather than the number bouncing all over by 5 or 10. I doubt I could do 50 per day yet but if I should happen to find some Coors lite while sitting on the deck it doesn't send me off for days after any more.

I don't understand the colors at all but every now and again FS will change your ticker or the bars in the weight history. Angie knew what they ment and explained it, or tried to though it still didn't work out as we were both 5 lbs from goal, she was blue and I was still green. Guess it's your over all loss numbers or something but your aiming to be blue which is a stupid color to aim for in my opinion. I think it should be gold for goal or something that stands out, who wants to be blue??????

Even the color shows us that it's to each their own, just because someone is 5 lbs from goal doesn't guarantee you'll be blue and it doesn't mean you can go over in carbs. You have to do what works, that usually means following the program like a recipe. If you want to change up the measurements of the recipe then be prepared for a failed baking experience or in low carb be prepared for it not working the way it should. It's really that simple, do what works and has been proven to work or expect the consequences of it. More and more research is done every day, what worked 20 years ago doesn't always compute to today's world with all the new items available. That's like thinking Dr. Banting's diet of the 1880's should be the same as Dr. Atkins of the 60's, does that make any sense? Get with today's world, follow the program which is outlined in the getting started thread. If you do it you'll lose weight, if you mess with it you won't. If you need help ask, lots of people on here far smarter than I that are more than willing to look at your food diary and make suggestions that relate to eating in the here and now with all the things we have to chose from. It's not your grandmother's way any more, it's 2013 with quickcarb, flax seed meal, almond meal and all the other things, if your smart you'll use the things now available and forget about the past. Today is the first day of the rest of your low carb life, will you use it wisely?

Just a quick other one of my go to items which is out of this world heavenly. Mock Danish with any of the sugar free syrups, yesterday it was raspberry and it was to die for. That recipe is in the recipe thread and is highly Sunkeeper recommended!

Brenda - I took a peek at your food diary and there are a couple of things that really jumped out at me.
Black beans aren't allowed on Atkins - at least not in the induction phase. There was another member here that didn't realize that and it caused her to stall completely.
Also, the coconut milk ice cream has 4 net carbs so I suspect it also has sugar in it.
One more thing, your sodium is crazy high at 3702 mg. The RDA recommends 2400 mg a day. I can't get anywhere near that or it causes me to bloat.
How much water are you drinking? Trust me when I say that water is an integral part of this journey and if you aren't drinking enough, the scale won't move.
If you haven't already, please do read here. There's a lot of really great information.

SunKeeper- I was thinking about the Mock Danish last night! And, thinking that I needed to make one today.

I woke up to thunderstorms at 2 a.m. (which I love) but that means no sun today. Sad

I'm off for a bit but I'll check in later.

Toni, I was craving something yesterday, didn't know what but like a dessert type thing after coming in for doing yard work. I whipped up a mock danish with Torani raspberry syrup on the top and just thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I'm going to make another one and get it really cold, it'll be like raspberry swirl ice cream!

I love thunder storms too but my dogs don't!
