Good morning EVERYONE!

Had tons of fun in the sun with my 2 boys and 2 nephews we watched yesterday. Still cried this morning. Moving on...

I am going to have to try some of those recipes you guys are talking about! Cream cheese clouds, coconut rolls, mouth seriously watering here!

Made DH give scale back and I am down Smile nice to see it on the scale. I can feel/see it in how my shirts fit (ie: less back fat). I will post pics soon. I always like to put faces to names, so will reciprocate Smile

Can't wait for kickboxing tomorrow! I am going to do something with eggs today.... deviled or salad. Have a wonderful day Everyone!

Sunkeeper- So glad you got to enjoy a nice sunny day. We’ve gotten so much rain the past week that over half of the state is in a flash flood watch. That coconut candy sounds delicious. I hope your head isn’t feeling too bad after all those beers.

Myrna—I’ll have to try the salads with no dressing sometime. I’m not sure if I can do it though. Hate that ill feeling from drinking too much water too fast.

Almost50nfab—I’ll have to check out those recipes. Thanks for sharing.

CarbTracker—genaw.com has a whole bunch of low carb recipes (induction friendly recipes are marked with *) just in case you aren’t familiar with the site. It is one of my favorite go to sites for just about everything. It is right up there with our recipe thread here. Unfortunately, most of them require some sort of sweetener—but I have fixed the cream cheese clouds with lemon juice and left out the sweetener. The cream cheese has a sweet enough flavor to keep it from being too tart at least for me. Sounds like you’ve got a good plan for handling your diet sodas and Jello. Enjoy this indoor activity day!!

PDXmom—Congrats on the scale going down!! I sure hope an answer is found for this depression soon. That’s no way to have to live. I think I can speak for most of us when I say WE ARE HERE FOR YOU! You’re a wonderful person and you’ve already accomplished great things in your life and you have done another great thing by committing to Atkins. If there is anything at all that I can do to help you please don’t hesitate to ask. My email here is always open and checked at least daily.

For those who are having problems with your ticker (me included), I was advised to clean out my cache and cookies. When I remember to do this, it usually resolves the problem and my ticker starts working again. I also use the fatsecret.ca or fatsecret.au on occasion if clearing the cache/cookies doesn’t work. Hope that helps!

I have cleaned out the refrigerator and the cabinets once again and restated to the family that we’re going back to low carb even if it means me doing all of the shopping and meal prep. I am spending the afternoon setting out a meal plan for the week and going ahead and preparing things like Quiche for breakfast and I found a plan for fixing salads in a jar up to a week in advance. I also left a bag of cubed cheese and a package of pepperoni in the work refrigerator to have for backup. For me, planning is the key to staying on plan. If I plan large meals for those nights that we have company, then I don’t panic when I realize I have to fix an extra large meal and start looking for quick and easy things like pizza, spaghetti, lasagna etc.

I hope you all have a wonderful Low Carb Day!!
~Rachel~

Happy Monday, another week for us all to get it right!

Rachel, we've had more than twice the rain we usually have in April, hence my appreciation for a beautiful sunny day, it's been a long time coming for sure. We've had rain, snow, sleet you name it and it's been cold cold cold. You are correct though, head didn't like it much and certainly doesn't want a repeat any time soon! Good for you cleaning out that bad stuff, it's not good for anybody. If you've got the plan all worked out your going to do great this week.

PDX, don't get hung up on the scales, hope you've done measurements to gauge how well your doing too. If DH isn't supportive in what your doing you could remind him it's not just about looks but your attempting to live a healthy life, if he can't understand that perhaps a good shrink would be in order! I'm hoping your not in this for looks, that's the wrong way to go about it for sure and would therefore have to support your husband.

Dorothy, happy your getting back into the swing of things. It's not so much of foods that I miss, I really do enjoy a "beverage" on a sunny day while relaxing on the deck, that's summer to me. I love water though too, always have and drink it all day long.

My ticker is still working and it's still blue, life is good. Many challenges ahead before I'm comfortable with the numbers of coarse. Have lots more challenges ahead I'm sure though I'm getting there, slowly but surely.

Now I look ahead to whole new week of practice, another trip around the block to see what's available and how high I can push the different areas on the food pyramid. Hoping everyone puts in a great week, moves and shimmies a bit and drinks lots and lots of water. Be interesting to see where everyone is a week from today won't it?

Good morning everyone. PDX, I have struggled with depression most of my life. My mother was diagnosed with clinical depressive disorder a few years ago. If you need to vent, or just have a question, you can message me.

Happy Monday everyone. I had a lovely weekend with good friends, sun and, erm, too much food (some of which wasn't really on plan). But that's life and I'm back in the saddle.

Rachel, I totes agree that having a plan really helps! Sounds like you are doing all the right things. I hope your family supports you.

Sunkeeper, so glad your maintenance is going well! Yay for blue tickers.

May everyone have a wonderful, low carb week!

Good afternoon, EVERYONE!

Wow, Thank You for the expression of support with the moods and my hubby. So here's the deal in more detail:

My husband started reading "the Art and Science of low carb living" and then I started reading it and it totally made sense, so I started Atkins because I am having trouble losing weight post baby in the midst of a high stress life, POST 40!!!(can I make that bigger and in bold please). My blood work is great and so is my BP and all, but yes, I want to get into my normal weight range for my height. Vanity plays a huge part too (I would be lying if it wasn't).
Anyway, my husband has struggled with his cholesterol level for most of his adult life (and he was trim and active). His mother, father, aunt, uncles, etc all take statins. He just got some blood work back early last week and FLIPPED HIS s##t. So, after talking to his MD, he is now bashing Atkins and wanting me to do follow up blood work after a time on this diet. Uh, ok... I am not the one with a cholesterol problem, dear husband. I have the right genes and this lovely thing called estrogen that you love to hate about a week out of every month.
Look, I have a Bachelor's in Nutrition Science with a minor in Chemistry (circa 1996) and another one in Nursing (what I currently practice) and the s##t made sense, okay? (especially knowing the polics and buls##t behind study funding and manipulating data using different statistical methods, etc). Fine, sign me up for the blood work in 2 months, now get out of my way and let me get my salami and cheese!!!

I am feeling better!! I upped my CHO a little in the morning and especially post work out and it is helping. I am still aiming for 25g as a goal. Thank you dialup75, Rachel116 and Sunkeeper for the kind words and keeping me in check with the "scale thing". I really was trying to check the impedence and testing how accurate the thing is. I swear I like my analog scale that is 20 years old! At least I can step on it and get consistent numbers.
Enough rambling.

I make some yummy egg salad with bacon, dill relish and black olives that was great.
I also made some cream cheese and black olive mix and ate it with celery sticks... totally yummy!

Happy Monday All,

It's Monday, approaching evening.... somehow the weekend flew away!

RACHEL and everyone else who "weighed" in on my SF Jello. I've decided. I bought 20 more boxes today. I'm giving myself 2 servings a day and I'm not going to try to do anything different. AND, as much as I'm a "waste not, want not" kinda person, that absolutely atrocious UNSWEETENED mess I made and called jello is headed out to the trash. What on earth was I thinking.
Oh, RACHEL I had not heard of that website, so thank you, I think it's fun to find new recipes. That was sweet of you.

ROWAN - you're going the WRONG way. Is there anything we can do to help? I can really really understand the unemployed thing. My oldest is a librarian in Portland. Her degree is Library Sciences and English, but librarian is the only "job" she's ever had. It was her on campus job in college. That's been since 1996. BUT, we are really worried also about her career and the libraries are being hard hit by all the new electronic readers. I don't know what type position you are looking for, but the displaced librarians that I know so far have managed to find work in adult education. I'm fearful that my daughter might have to go back to school for teaching credentials to survive. I'm sure you have many talents to add to librarian... don't worry the right job will appear when you least expect it.

BRENDA - tell your hubby... no wait, not that... lol... Okay, make sure you get bloodwork done, it'll be the only thing he will ever believe. HOWEVER, my BP dropped, I took off 30 LDL points held my GOOD HDL and my GOOD trig. in THREE MONTHS with only a twenty pound weight loss and that was, with very few exceptions, eating only meat, fish, cheese and eggs (and SF Jello and Mayo). The problem I see with Atkins is when you eat all that cholesterol and fat laden stuff and then "cheat" or don't remain true to the diet. Add back in carbs to that high fat/high protein diet and you're headed for disaster IMHO.
I too was wondering if he even attempted the low carb.

TENKILOS I was thinking about you Saturday. I had my hubby pick up some Carbquick, but it's still sitting on the kitchen counter, unopened.. haha,

M Y R N A L O U I S E ! ! ! I'm telling you, listen to Sunkeeper. I've got that little rascal working and it's afraid to stop!! Just do the .ca log in for the whole week.. what the heck do you have to lose? I'm telling you, I got the rush of the week when mine kicked in.... or maybe that was the SF Jello !!!... Oh and by the way Myrna, I haven't figured out how to go completely without salad dressing, but even the biggest salad (like today's lunch) I normally limit myself to 1/2 serving. Today because I managed to kill my chicken I used the entire serving and you are correct... it pretty much covered up the taste of everything else. One reason I use Bleu Cheese dressing is that it is so strong you feel like you are getting more than you are and that's only 1/2g carb! Just another little mind game I play with myself, lol.

SUNKEEPER - You are doing a fantabulous job! I'm getting accustomed to the good "blue" but I really think we should petition for another color.

DIALUP and BRENDA - I cannot fathom depression. I mean, I know what it is, and I suffered it when my mother died, but to think of it as a way of life, you guys have my utmost respect. You must be VERY VERY strong and committed to push past that.

My biggest problem is that I love the taste of food... so I overeat and I know it when I do it. The reason Atkins works for me is that I can "chew" more food. I KNOW that is not the purpose.. LOL.. but as TONI will tell you, it's what works for YOU. I do manage to limit myself on many things but it's always nice to know that when I get in an "eating mood" I have a gazillion safe things in which to "overindulge"and not wreck my weight or my health.

I'm off to try to find the recipe thread again. (looking heavenward)

Well, I'm so excited my ticker is working AND I can actually post to challenges I might go find myself another one or two! Hope everyone is planning on a low carb, happy, healthy week! You guys are going to get a well needed break from my diatribes whilst I attempt to move the rest of my files to cloud storage this week.... It's awfully time consuming and you have to be very methodical or something gets missed. Pain in the royal keister! But don't worry, I might not be typing, but i'll still be watching you guys!

I just absolutely love getting up in the morning and reading all the posts, what a fab way to start a day, love you guys!

Brenda, you've agreed to the blood work so now tell him to shut up! If you haven't been married for 20 years yet it might be a first but get ready, it comes out much easier after the initial time. Men, is there one on earth that is reasonable? And they say women are hard to understand, NOT.

Myrna, I'm so happy that your that happy, wish I could be that happy EVERY morning. Still have the low carb poopin problem but then I had it before low carb too so guess I shouldn't blame it on that. I can say the excess beer sure helped clean them old pipes out! Yes, it was medicinal, that's my story and I'm stickin to it.....

Rowan oh Rowan, what are we going to do with you? Wish we could help get you back on track again, seems you have wandered off frequently but it's wonderful how you hop right back on the wagon with the rest of us again. Somebody hold that woman down, don't let her even get near the edge of the wagon. I'm sure the stress of this job hunting is not helping at all, so many meals out all the time it's almost impossible to expect the scales to read what you'd like. I know I could never do that, even the weekends when everyone is home and my schedule is off can be such a challenge (as I clearly demonstrated this past weekend).

Jen, your life is going so well, look at you! What a great example you are to the team, plow through it all to get where YOU want to go and how you want to get there. Good for you, so proud of the job you've done and are doing.

Linda, great to see you as I've been wondering how your making out on maintenance. Not as easy as one might think is it? A whole new learning curve for sure. Any tips or tricks you have yet to share?

Gina you are a hoot, tell hubby this, no wait, not that, one can only imagine what the not that was...... The ticker is the first challenge I face each day but I was determined to make the dang thing work and work it does if I have to sign in to all the FS sites. I start out with 1 then come over here to check to see if it's right, nope, ok try .com, did that work? It'll tell you that you've already weighed in for that date but like a man, ignore it. Check again, did that work, you either get an ahhhh moment or a dam it now where do I go, ok, .au. Just like losing these pounds, if at first you don't succeed, try, try, again. I'm not going to mess with more though and get in another challenge, that would really frustrate me I'm sure. If Jello is your only vise for now don't sweat the small stuff. It's far better than a big hunk of chocolate brownie or a piece of pecan pie every day! Bet your bod is thankful it's only sweetener it has to fight.

Toni you work so hard, miss the days of hearing about your life and I'm betting I'm not alone. Hope that soon you have some time to catch us all up.

I ate like crazy yesterday, all of it good stuff though. I kept forgetting what all I had put in my lunch time salad till after I'd had more then once I put dinner in the journal it all looked so good I wasn't about to give a bit of it up but I lost, wow, wonders never cease. I'm sure now that I'm back outside and doing all the grunt work for spring clean up plus getting gardens ready I'm going to be able to eat more. Much more active which relates to more food. See, it's not really about us at all, it's that darn Mother Nature making us sedate over the winter that caused all this in the first place just like she causes PMS and TOM and all the other things that contribute to our problems. Why is she called Mother nature though, sounds to me more like it should be FATHER nature, men are usually the complicators, what's up with that?

Anyway, here's hoping someone can hold on to Rowan today and keep her on the wagon with all of us. Hope Myrna isn't so happy we can all tell just by her coming in the room and hope that where ever you are the sun is shining, your movin your feet a bit, shakin your hips and drinking drinking drinking that water. You'll thank me for the reminder, you know you will!

Laughing, you gals are a hoot. I manage two days of almost fat fast (85% instead of 90% and closer to 1100 the 1000 calories) and I am back down to 177.2. I'm meeting a fellow job seeker for lunch at a local diner that has a "salmon low carb plate" and that it what I'll have so the fat fast is over. Except I just had whipped cream for breakfast. I had made the Fat Fast Chocolate Whip which is yummy! I hate being this focused on food. I think I am rebelling a bit.

Good morning! I hope everyone's day started with a low carb breakfast. I know for the first time in WEEKS mine did! I was so very happy that I had that LC Atkin's bowl in the freezer. It's not something that I want to eat every morning for breakfast but I wouldn't mind eating them once or twice a week as long as they don't cause any stalls etc.

Linda, It's so good to see you. I hope all is going well with you and the rest of your very busy family.

Sunkeeper-- I absolutely love your get up and go attitude. Your posts are always fun to read! Thank you for that.

Almost50nfab--"Another day another nickle" I remember when that saying was another day another dollar. But in this economy your saying fits perfectly! Have a happy LC Tuesday.

Rowan--You can do this!! Congrats on the almost fat fast for 2 days. I probably would not make it at this point. I may give that a go next week and see what happens. Hopefully just by getting back on plan I will see results. That Chocolate Whip sounds absolutely sinful. You've come so far!! Don't rebel now.

Hi everyone - I have been out of the loop and not even going to try to catch up on all the posts. I did see a couple of new names so welcome!!

Work has had me crazy to the tune that I have not even updated my food entries. I just did yesterdays today and will try to get the weekend entered. I did not eat bad just crazy around here. I start work at 5am and have been working until 8pm and you know stress is when exercise is even more important and I have not had time to do that either so I have stressed over that too!

Today is a better day though and I will get a walk in.

The best news of all!!!! I talked to my sweet daughter!!! She was able to call me on Sunday...haven't talked to her in almost 3 weeks and not getting her form letter either had really been wearing me down too. She said that she did not get to mail the letter because the day they mailed them she was SIQ (sick in quarters) that she couldn't march and had to have an infected ingrown toenail cut out. She sounded tired (and said she was), but she is good. She said the food is okay and she has been making healthy choices. She passed her swim test!!! Had personal inspections and inspections of her bunk yesterday (I prayed that she passed and her division passed). She was a little bummed that she got no mail, but she understood when I told her that I needed the form letter to confirm her address. Although, I had finally broke down around Tuesday and mailed her some letters and on Wednesday because the thought of my baby not getting mail was tearing me up inside.

Then let's toss in TOM and he was vicious this time. I was in such pain Friday night that I was in tears and it drained me physically. With the heavy work load I was asleep lastnight before DH turned the light off in the bedroom.

Thank you all for praying for her! Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She still has many tests to do and pass. She said she can do 20 push ups but needs to improve her sit ups by 24 and she needs to shave a minute off of her 1.5 mile run.

To those of you that have checked in on me when I seemed to be scarce I really appreciate that! You do not know how much it means.

Have a great day!

Good Morning All...

OK...on the no dressing thing...it's because I think we rely too much on covering up the taste of everything that I decided I would try everything NAKED for awhile and see what I found out::: Salads. they do have a flavor of their own...I have decided I like the different flavors! Egg Salad...just a little mayo, I don't even use salt and pepper...FAB! More things to try....it'll save me alot of calories and carbs...ect

I also use a smaller plate...I hid the big plates in my house! Everyone is on a smaller plate...If we go out to eat, I make everyone get a togo box and put half of it in the box right away...We get 2 meals out of 1 and even the hubba is feeling better!

Hubba got up at 5 this morning to ride his bike...SHIRLEY and GEORGE have been an item since Shirley came out of the garage about 3 days ago...So, as a treat for Hubba, I am making him faux rice....Califlower Cilantro Lime...he loves the rice at Chipolte...

Rowan: We are here for you!!!

That is awesome Myrna - so glad to hear. Like you I use only smaller plates, and it works wonderfully.

Oh I forgot to mention that DH got his bloodwork and his A1C did go down!!! The doctor will not be increasing his meds, and he told him that if he kept it up he might could even move him (eventually) as pre-diabetic and not diabetic.
