Ketosis is a natural function of the body. We should be able to move between burning carbohydrates as a fuel or fat as a fuel, depending on what fuel is available. When we are fully adapted to ketosis, we are able to enjoy athletic performance without the negative consequences of those sugar and starch binges. Too bad there's no pullup bar here. I normally alternate days working on chinups and pushups. (Chinups are still a dream for me, but a girl can dream...)

Thanks Rowinfair, niv and Jaime30024 for the kind and encouraging words. There's nothing available until next December so we're taking a cruise to the bahamas the end of April.
Jamie30024 - I hope your words are blessed and I'm going to the Bahamas slimmer.Smile
I started back on the fat fast , did good yesterday, got to moderate on the ketosis stick but only for a little while. Today I think I had too much protein 21% but was really stressed.
My mother, who is 91 with dimensia, has started to bruise very easily. She is getting brusies around her eyes just from wearing her reading glasses. They are scheduling blood work possible platletts too low???
My granddaughter just had a baby and her boyfriend lost his job. They'll be moving in with us this up coming weekend.
This should keep me very busy, maybe too busy to overeat.
I wish everyone well in their endeavors.

Decided to give the fat fast a-go, again. I have to weigh on Thursday and it's TOM again (wasn't she just here?)so I'm trying to do something to circumvent the inevitable gain that TOM brings with her.

I found a new recipe that fits within the ratio for the fat fast. The recipe is for pimento cheese http://www.aspicyperspective.com/2012/04/pimento-cheese-recipe.html
and according to FS, 3 Tbsp is exactly 200 calories 86% fat, 12 % protein and 2 % carb.

Good luck with the fat fast, too. Smile

I got home yesterday. No gain or loss, but I look leaner. This morning, as expected, not in ketosis. I decided to do a day or two (or three) of fat fast to kick me back in.

10:30am, 1 oz macadamia nuts. 3:00, 1 glass of coconut dairy cream. I am now in ketosis at about a 10 reading. Is it common to go in so fast? I only recently bought my first ketostix.

Coconut dairy cream

1 can of coconut milk, at room temperature
8 ounces of heavy cream
1/8 teaspoon salt

Mix ingredients in a jar large enough to hold a quart. Add enough water to bring it up to a quart. Shake well, chill, and serve. Makes 6 small or 4 larger servings. Calories will depend on the size can of coconut milk you use.

Went to the market this morning to shop for the fat fast. I got double cream brie instead of cream cheese. It has the same fat content (9g/oz) but without the carageenan and other wacky additives. I looked at the triple cream (12g/oz) but it was $4 a lb more and at least for now I'm going with double. So for the next three days it will be brie, avocado and macadamia nuts (and maybe coconut oil) for me. I guess I should do measurements as well as my weigh-in. I haven't done them in awhile. Wish me luck!

Half way through day two and I honestly can't tell if I am starving of the hunger or if my stomach is just really upset with the diet. I never got the "low carb flu" on regular induction (I drank broth) and I wonder if this malaise is the fat fast equivalent. Not sure I can stick it out a third day. Sad Did anyone else have this problem?

I was hungry too. I had increased my fat to the maximum % also but was still feeling hungry so I would have some chicken broth or hot tea to try to "fill up" my belly while still keeping calories low. I lost weight and didn't gain it back so for me it was worth doing. Well....didn't gain it back until I went away the following weekend and binged, so that was totally my fault! Good luck with the rest of the fast. Hang in there!

This is a recipe that Julie posted to the recipe section, but it is great for the Fat Fast so I am adding it here too.

The coconut oil chocolate candies that you suggested were a good idea for getting your fat up. However, they were kind of hard to find, so here is the recipe again in case anyone is interested:

Simple Coconut Oil Chocolate Candies
• 1/2 cup Coconut Oil
• 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder (raw cocoa powder is preferred)
• 2 Tbsp Splenda
• 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
• ¼ cup chopped Macadamia nuts
Melt the coconut oil and add the Splenda. Whisk and add the cocoa powder. Whisk occasionally while pouring into a silicone ice cube tray or silicone mini muffin tray. Makes 14. Cool for 30 minutes in the fridge or freezer.
Note: Time varies depending on how hot the coconut oil was when you started. If the oil is only just reached its melting stage, these will set in as little as 15 minutes.
Recipe makes 14, 1 candy per serving

Chocolate Whip

1/2 Cup of heavy cream
1 TBSP Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp fasweet (that was the sweetener, I used. Feel free to change that to whichever one you prefer, just be sure to adjust the nutritional counts accordingly)

Beat all ingredients together until fluffy and stiff.
This makes 2 servings at:

This recipe is from Dana Carpender's Fat Fast book. I did alter it a bit, removing the salt and adding Mrs. Dash Spicy Southwest seasoning instead.

Butter Roasted Pecans

2 Cups of Pecan Halves
3 Tablespoons of Butter (I used unsalted butter.)
2 teaspoons of Mrs. Dash Spicy Southwest Seasoning

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Melt butter and toss with the pecans.
Roast in oven for 5 minutes.
Shake pan, roast for another 5 minutes.
They get crispy as they cool.

This makes 8, 1/4 Cup servings at:

248 calories a serving / 1 net carb / 89% fat
