Good Evening All...and Welcome to the Newbies!

I finally got rid of the sinus headache...

Julie: Remember when I first started out and I was having the heart palpitations? And we didn't know why...Well it was covered in the LCHF link...I thought it was the coffee....now we know! See, told you...you did a fab job!!!

so on to the next problem....CONSTIPATION!! I thought the coffee would help this morning...no go..lol...I had a Chef Salad for lunch....not many calories today...but still, no go! I just read where sugar free candy works like a laxative to someone in this forum....might try that next....

Sorry to bring up such a horrible topic on Valentine's Day...but thought maybe someone could suggest something other than an ENEMA!! lmao...

Rockmela that does sound yummy. Haven't had Greek food in a long time. I don't know the counts on it, but I remember checking hummus when i started Atkins and realizing it would be a while before I could have it. I don't think it is induction friendly. But, depending on where you are on the plan, it may work for you.

Leikoa, I haven't made the cheesecake yet. Supposed to make it last night, but decided to wait since we wouldn't eat it until Sat. (didn't need the temptation looking at me every time I opened the fridge) I'm adjusting my normal cheeseccake recipe to be low carb. it's an old recipe that I got from a magazine years ago. It is so good. I'm interested to see how it comes out LC. But, I'm most excited about the choc chips. I made them from a recipe I found online using unsweetened choc, butter and sweetener. They are really good! I will post both recipes in the recipe tab sometime this weekend.

Good night all! Have a fabulous Friday!!!

The shawarma is Lebaneese. I tried to do it all individually and it came up as a lot of fat....esp tahini

Tahini is actually a good fat.

Myrna, what LCHF link? One of the main reasons for constipation is not enough fiber in your diet. Women should get at least 21-25g of fiber a day. Not drinking enough water can also contribute to constipation.

Good morning all!
I was up until stupid o' clock in the morning, chaperoning my daughter and her "not boyfriend". And then I got up 3 hours later to finish packages that need to go out today. I am tired and cranky.

Rockmela - I love shawarma - who am I kidding? I love Mediterranean food, period. Angie's right, the tahini is good fat.

Myrna, sugar free candy can have a laxative effect in some people. That may be a temporary fix but a better, more long term one, is to drink plenty of water and get more fiber in your diet.

Ugh, I'm off for a bit to finish up packages. I HAVE to go grocery shopping today and I forsee a nap in my very near future.

Have a great day, ladies!

Angie: here is the link...Julie has a link to it in the Low Carb beginners thread..I am finding that she has done a fabulous job and it is very helful....I would suggest all the newbies take a look at it...It answered the question about the heart palpitations...http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf

Everybody have a great low carb day!

Toni, Darri and everyone else....All is well that came from the ENDS well! I am going to cut out my cheese for awhile...I think that and not enough leafy greens is the culprit... Razz

Morning. Myrna I have the same problem though it's not all LC faults, I've always had the problem. I've been having a muffin in a minute every day for lunch and more leafy greens which is really helping out the "situation" a lot.

Welcome to all the newbies, hope a Low Carb life is where you really want to go as it's so healthy and the recipes I've been finding are so darn good.

The last night one was Mock Danish, I put the recipe in the recipe link. Think I could get hooked real quick on that as you can vary it so much.

Toni, such a good mom looking after the non boyfriend. Teenagers are just so much fun but be happy she's home with you, it could be way worse! Hope you get all those orders packed but hope you get lots more in too, what a problem to have.

More blasted snow here. Wanted to run to town to get some more cream cheese but wasn't sure I'd get out the driveway. I did and have lots of supplies now so I'm set but I'm still sick of snow, somebody make it go away.....

I have been paying far more attention to my diary lately and I'm seeing the results. If I don't feel I have enough exercise in to compensate for what I've eaten then I do another round. Not only are a few pounds being shed but I feel really good and I think looking in the mirror this morning I could actually see a difference. I know I'm going to have to have a major shopping spree soon, I was showing DH last night if I pull on the legs of my jeans my pants fall off me. Either that or I'm going to need suspenders soon. Just gotta love it when that happens, such a problem to have.

Happy low carbing, it's the weekend almost but if you really want to give yourself a better life it doesn't really matter.

Just checking in...I have to stay accountable, you know!Smile

Myrna- Thank you so much for all of your kind words!! (Please check your inbox.)

Sunkeeper- I just received my coconut flour in the mail so I can make the Pizza Hut bread sticks. I can't wait! Feels like I haven't had anything bread-like in a year! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Tony- I'm so glad to hear that your business is going well! I know that you're tired, but these are exciting times for you. Congrats!

Have a terrific low carb day, everyone!

Good morning low carbers. Just wanted to check-in. I posted this earlier but it seems to only show up on the LCHF thread. Sorry that it is a duplicate for some of you:

Drat. I walked my 10k steps, did some upper body exercise and, since by 10 pm I had only had about 20 net gr carbs, just knew that I would see at least an incremental weight loss this morning. Then I decided to eat an ounce of nuts since I was really hungry. Earlier in the day, I had had an ounce of macadamias and noticed that they were quite low carb. Did I measure out another ounce of macadamias? No, in one of those sleepy and distracted late night moments of distraction or whatever, I opened up the cashews and used them instead. Why, oh why, did I not stop to check their carb content? Can't tell you, can't tell myself.

So, several points explain this additional day of stalled weight gain: too many carbs, too many carbs late at night, too much food of any sort late at night, and being up too late anyway. Knowledge is power. So is being wide awake and having a good memory. Perhaps I should put up sticky notes where I am most likely to see them reminding me of particular hazards.

Another day, another opportunity to do better and end the stall.

The reason I was up so late is because I was putting together my first batch of kimchi which I expect to be a good food both to plain enjoy eating but also to fit well into LCHF eating. The live cultures of probiotics should do great things for my entire system, especially the finicky gut flora. I am so excited to see how closely my kimchi will approximate the Sunja's brand that I have been buying at Whole Foods.

Myrna - I have the same problem and had it even when I was getting 20+ grams of fiber. My doctor actually has me take 3 stool softeners everyday just because of the way my 'system' works. Keep in mind that adding too much fiber at one time can also cause a temporary 'binding effect'. This sounds ridiculous but part of my problem too is I would get all stressed out over not going and try too hard and that is not good either. I finally had to learn to 'relax' hahaha...easier said than done! The sugarfree candies (with maltitol) are also helpful for me.

Sunkeeper way to go on being more attentive to your plan!

Okay as for me....my daughter took her oath to serve God and Country yesterday. I am so over the top proud and DH got teary eyed several times yesterday. We took her out to celebrate and my calories were over but in all I did very well. I had two bites of her Chocoate Torte and a teeny tiny bite of bread with a huge slather of butter. I found that it was okay and not all the great.

Thank you all who have supported me as my daughter went down this path and that offered the positive thouoghts and prayers. My next challenge will be preparing myself for my baby to be gone. She leaves April 8th. I will probably be a wreck the week of and the weeks afterward.

I hope you all have a great weekend and keep on track Smile

Myrna, that's my link lol. All of the individual threads that Julie merged into one have been on the Group Forum for months. Some of them kept falling over into Page 2, and unfortunately, most people don't look on Page 2. I'm pretty sure she gave credit to the original poster at the top of each one. The LCHF link is a favorite of mine, too.

For some people, the muffin in a minute, or anything made with flax seed meal, can actually make the constipation worse. Flax is soluble fiber so you have to drink lots of water so it will turn into it's gelatinous form. For me, even drinking over 100 ounces of water a day, the flax would not leave my body. As much as I love it, I had to stop eating it.

Toni - I would love the Kimchi recipe. Could you post in the recipe thread? (You too Lyn, if you like your resultsLaughing ). I am convinced that the probiotics created in kimchi and sauerkraut are good for gut health. Actually fermented foods like these are technically better sources for probiotics since we don't know how much/many of those little boogers survive shipping, packaging, shelf life. I am so happy that ya'll posted about this today!
Jaime - congrats doll! That is some great news, know you and your husband are over the moon right now.
Angie - You know that we are from the same gene pool, right? Flax has the same paradox effect on me. (And Jaime, those stool softeners are part of my daily 'vitamins' nowSmile ).
Dorothy - I knew once the recipe thread got active again you would resurface! We love us some good 'food porn' lolol. I hope people will keep putting in recipes (and photos to go with).
Everyone, have a great weekend. We had beautiful weather today that is being yanked out from under us tomorrow. Hurry Spring!

Darri - Thanks so much! We are so ecstatic for her. Now I am trying to make lists and plan a going away part! I want Spring! The sun was actually out today, but it is still cold. At least it is not snowing so I am not going to complain.

So got in my exercise. My daughter walked at a brisk pace with me. I have no doubt that she can run the 1.5 miles in 15 minutes! Although, we did not do any running this time I felt good. Tomorrow is the car show so my exercise will be walking around the show with DH...not optimum, but it is better than nothing.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Jamie, I know your daughter going away in April will be a huge adjustment for you and your husband, but I can feel your pride all the way over here Smile I know you'll enjoy your time with her before she goes. Just hang in there, and cry it out if you need to. Still keeping you all in my prayers. Hope you have a great time today at the Car Show Smile

Darri, yes girl, I know we are! Very Happy Even eating over 12 net carbs of veggies a day doesn't bring my fiber count up to where it should be, but it has definitely helped the "situation". I do take one of those little pink pills once every 2 weeks to help. Thanks for that info about the fermented foods. I actually love sauerkraut. I need to incorporate it into my meals.

Toni, I hope you were able to get a nap in!

Rachel, so happy you are still checking in Smile I miss you being around, but glad to know that you're still here with us Smile

As for me, today marks 6 months since I changed my eating habits. The pounds are starting to come off more slowly now, but that's okay. I feel awesome Smile Today, the scale showed a 1.1 lb. loss and the tape measure shows I've lost another 5.5 inches Very Happy That's a total of 53 lbs. since August 16th, and 50.5 inches since October 1st! I'm working on increasing my water consumption. I should be drinking at least 80 ounces a day, but I've only been drinking about 70 ounces for the past month and a half, and yes, those 10 ounces do make a difference.

I'm beginning a new Challenge in a couple of days. Very strict Induction for 2 months. Although I regularly follow pretty strict Induction, I have had some sugar-free candy from time to time and occasionally a low-carb tortilla, but it'll be no problem cutting those out. I know that by the end of these 2 months I'll have surpassed my new goal of 155 and will be on my way to the 140's Smile I think the last (and only) time that I weighed below 150 was when I was about 15.

I'm so happy with the new me, and so very proud of myself for everything I've accomplished. It just goes to show that when you really, REALLY want something, you CAN do it. You can't go about it half-a$$ed. You have to be determined to do it. You have to sacrifice things, and you have to commit to it totally. It's become a lot easier for me as the days, weeks, and months passed, but I STILL have to be contentious every minute of every day. And because of that, the result has been outstanding Smile

Hope you all have a great day!
