That's my usual plan as well, but then there's the Atkins "count this as 1 even though it's really not" things, and it's got me questioning myself lol!

A FS friend of mine directed me to this forum post about why the scales can lie. This is a GREAT read and could help anyone that is struggling with the scale and it's movement.

Ray, I go by the carb count on the package unless it's something I've researched, or written to the company about, and found out differently. The package of cheese I use says 1 ounce = 0 carbs, so I only use 1 ounce. I know that if the carb count is less than .5, they can say that it has 0 carbs on the package, but I figure if it does have less than .5 carbs per serving, it's not gonna do any damage because I normally have that much, or even more, left over at the end of the day.

Toni, I love the sugar-free candy, but instead of producing a laxative effect, like it does for some, it only makes me bloated and gassy, so I rarely use it. In the past, when I would stop eating it, I would lose. Hope it works the same for you. So happy about the good news for your business. I know you're busy right now, so just do what you need to do and be here when you can Smile

Julie, the new thread looks good Smile Thanks for adding the part about logging food!

Thank you, Jamie! Smile I'm really getting sick and tired of being sick and tired lol. Now if I can just get the weather to cooperate with me, all will be fine and dandy lol.

Quick question. When you weigh your ground beef, do you weigh it before or after you cook it?

Hello, everybody!!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!Razz

Just checking in for the day. Adapting to this new lifestyle isn't easy and this group keeps me focused on my goal, so I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone for being here!

Tony, Myrna, Jaime, and Angie
: Thank you ever so much for your comments on the new thread!! I really do appreciate that!

Jaime- That article about the scale was awesome! You are right, it's a great read!! One can never be reminded enough that sometimes the scale isn't telling the whole story. Thank you for posting the link!

Angie- I was told by a nutritionist to weigh meat (or any food, for that matter) after cooking. That's the way I've been doing it, so I hope she was right! (lol)

Anyway, have a terrific Valentine's Day, everyone! (Don't forget to hug your sweetheart!)

Hey Y'all!! Happy Valentine's day! I thought I would use Valentine's as a reason to make a nicer LC dinner for the family and even have a LC dessert. WEll, turns out sweetie had other plans. Actually, he didn't realize it was V-day at the time and he scheduled us to go have our taxes done tonight. REally?? Doesn't that just shout "I love you!!" LOL So, we'll have Lobster "pasta" this weekend with our LC choc chip cheesecake.

Angie--I always weigh mine after cooking unless I am weighing it to enter into a recipe.

Have a great day all!!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. I think I'm back on track...I haven't weighed because I kept getting discouraged by what the scales said (LOL),but my clothes are fitting a little looser.

I have to travel (Utah to West Virginia) because my brother-in-law passed away from leukemia (6 weeks from diagnoses to death). But I'm determined to stay on the plan. I'll be gone 10 days, so it WILL be a challenge. But, I know I will have these challenges all the rest of my life, and unlike before - where I'd always have an EXCUSE why I couldn't stick to it, I AM going to make it work this time. If I struggle, I'll just think of all of you and the success you're all having.

Have a great week!!!

Hello all,
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. It's been a busy couple of days around here and I'm looking at the very real possibility of having to hire someone to help get orders out. I got 52 out yesterday, so Go Me!

Angie - The sugar free candy always seems like such a good idea and I did give in and have 2 pieces last night. Still no loss on the scale this morning but after reading the article that Jaime posted, I'm not going to sweat it too much. The scale may be a total PITA but my clothes are looser and I'm going to have to get my engagement ring re-sized soon. So. I am losing even if the scale is obviously not working. Wink
As far as weighing my meat, it depends. With ground beef, I do it before. With chicken thighs, after and with chicken breasts, before. Why? I have absolutely no idea except that's how I do it.

MusicGirl - I am so sorry for your loss.

MorePlease - We're doing Valentine's Day in tonight. My daughter's "not boyfriend" will be joining us for dinner too.

Okay, I'm out. I'll try to check in periodically.
Have a happy Valentine's day!
- Toni

Happy Valentines Day to all!!

Toni and Angie, when I eat the sugar free candy it has the laxative affect on me.. Don't really know what that means (hope it's a good thing).. I have decreased the amount that I eat on a daily the past few weeks - but today I just might treat myself! Wink

As for the weighing of the food.. I always weight my meats, vegetables after it's cooked..Get a more accurate number..

I've been visiting the site and reading everyone's post.. So I'm still here, just haven't post .... Anyway, everyone have a great day!

Hopefully love is in the air wherever you are! Wink

Hi everyone,
New to this group. New to fatsecret. I just love this app. Am prof. chef, always share my LC recipes so feel free to ask away. Most of my recipes can be found on lowcarber.org with photos.

Just to help out on the weighing foods question. Foods are always weighed raw, cooking removes anywhere from 20 to 50 to 70% of moisture depending on how long you cook your foods. Nutrition information is based on raw product. Most steamed veggies weigh the same cooked or raw (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, etc) but roasted veggies shrink a lot. Meats shrink a ton during cooking they average a 30% loss in weight. Hope that helps, sorry to burst anyone's bubble. USDA often supplies cooked nutritional data if that helps out too.

Just learning about this forum, excuse me if I don't post properly.

Started 203 back in 2004 am hovering around 144 now, final goal 124.....creeping slowly now.

Happy Valentine's Day Daily Check-in-er's ♥♥♥
Ray, on the 0 carb thing.. on your Fat Secret food entry page, on the right hand side you'll see Custom Foods (I think that's what it's called). Click to add a custom food. You have to give the custom food a name; I picked up this trick from someone else on FS and they used the name hidden carbs. So I named mine the same. I gave it a value of 1 serving and zero'd out everything except the carbohydrate number which gets a value of 1. No dietary fiber, vitamin C yada yada. Then say you have two servings of green olives and you want to acknowledge that that's not a 'free food'. When you input the green olives on your food diary, put two servings. The food diary will double the fat, vitamins etc but can't double the zero carbs, right? SO...make a food entry for "hidden carbs' (it will pull from custom foods). Make the value 1/2 serving or 3 servings depending on what you feel snuck by for that day.
Second tip:
Enter all your veggies in the snack area of your diary. That will segregate your 'minimum net carbs from vegetables and leafy greens' value. Then you don't have to do the math of subtracting your discretionary carbs from your minimum. I picked this up from somebody on another forum. The only drawback is if you have a food from your 'recipe box' that is meat and vegetable mixture you will just have to keep that in mind.
Hope none of this was confusing.

Hey everyone, happy Valentine's day! It was V-day for me yesterday (cause New Zealand is in the future, hehe) so my partner and I went out for dinner (we were gonna have a picnic - easy to make LC! - but the weather wasn't great so we went to a restaurant instead. Luckily we got a table, even though we didn't have a reservation (it was the only non-reserved table in the restaurant, lol). We both ordered the pork belly with spinach and it was delicious! I didn't realise it came on a pile of mashed potato (it wasn't clear on the menu, if I'd seen that I would have asked them to just give me extra spinach instead of potato) so luckily I'd ordered a side salad. My partner ate most of my potato lol. I also had a diet coke instead of wine (we've both given up drinking for a month to save money and calories). So a successful dinner out in my opinion hehe.

Angie, I see it's already been answered several times but just throwing my 2 cents in, I weigh everything raw, before I cook it.

MorePlease, lol taxes, so romantic! At least you're still doing something together tho, hehe. Smile Would you mind sharing your LC choc chip cheesecake recipe? It sounds wonderfully delicous and I'd love to give it a go!

MusicGirl, I'm sorry for your loss. You have a great attitude about staying on track while travelling and we know you can do it! Very Happy

Toni, it sounds like your business is doing great! Enjoy your Valentines dinner with the fam. Smile

ChefMichelle, thanks for the helpful info. Welcome to the group! Smile

Hey Darri, great tips - thanks! I'm gonna have to start doing that. It's easy to have way too many servings of "0 carb" food and think you're getting away with it, hehe.

Have a great day everyone. Smile
