Thanks, Myrna! I'll try those things (back off Splenda, use heavy cream, etc.); I just wish I liked my coffee black like Dianna. I just can't get past that bitter taste! Thanks again for looking things over for me!!Wink

What's the deal with this "cheat" word? Everyone keeps saying they had a "cheat" day. To "cheat" means you are doing something by way of deceit. It's such a derogatory term Doubt

When I have something that I don't have very often, I consider it a treat. I'm treating myself for what I have accomplished. A treat should be a special allowance for doing a good job over a considerable amount of time. If you treat yourself every week, you're not gonna accomplish much. Stick it out for a month or so, THEN treat yourself for a job well done.

I treat myself once every couple of months, but I'm certainly not "cheating". "Cheating" on what, anyway? Your "diet"? So, what happens when your "diet" is over?

I understand that our group has changed a lot over the past few months, and not everyone eats the low-carb way. That's fine, we welcome everyone here. But, it is called "Low-Carb Daily Check In", so people coming here who are eating low-carb see all this talk about "cheating" one day a week and they will think that is okay to do. But, it's not. They are getting the wrong idea instead of getting correct info about how to eat low-carb properly, and that is a disservice to them. We may need a separate thread for the non-low-carbers. I'll discuss that with the other administrators.

MusicGirl7: I agree with the advice others gave you about cutting out the bars with all the sugar alcohol. I would also suggest that you eat a lot more vegetables. You should be getting 12-15 net grams of carbs from green, leafy veggies a day. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water.

Trying again...

What are y'alls thoughts on V-Day? Eating out or in? We will have a night in. I'm looking for ideas for a yummy LC dinner. For dessert (the most important part, imo) we will have a LC choc. chip crustless cheesecake. I made my own choc. chips and they are so good. I hope they last long enough for me to bake the cheesecake--hubs won't sstay out of them. I'm going to top it with raspberry and drizzle with more chocolate.

I also made fat bombs last night. I thought it would be good to have some in the fridge for those days that my fat %age just isn't quite high enough. I think they could be detrimental. They taste much better than I thought they would and I have to force myself not to grab one everytime I go near the kitchen.

Hey Julie, I bought the liquid splenda from netrition and i love it. Because there are no fillers, it is zero carbs. Just thought I'd mention it b/c I can't drink my coffee black either. You can also buy liquid stevia (truvia) and it is supposed to be much better for you than the liquid ssplenda. But I don't like the taste of truvia and I'm scared to spend that much on the liquid afraid I won't like it either.

Well, good night all! I hope y'all have a fabulous Sunday filled with God's blessings!!

Stopping by to see how everyone's day was...

Looks like everyone has had a successful week! I met with BETTY (thanks Myrna/Julie ) 2x today! Wink Ran a few errands and now I'm winding down.. All this chatter about cheat days and all this wonderful food makes me think about the "unobtainable" before the evening is out! Been doing this low carb thing since Oct and I can honestly say I have had 3 no more than 4 slip ups, and that includes the holidays.. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New years and ohh yeah I had a small slip up on Superbowl Sunday..

We all know that it's hard to stay on track but just remember we are all trying to reach our personal goals - so we definitely have to stick to the plan to get to that goal! Very Happy Of course an occassional treat or slip up may happen.. Heck we are all human!

We all have to adjust to this lifestyle/diet change if we want to continue on this journey and get to the best that "WE PERSONALLY" want to be..

Everyone HANG IN THERE! Hope everyone had a wonderful Saturday and a Great Sunday coming!

We're on this journey together!

Good morning FS friends. Dig out day in the north east before the rain comes, what's with this weather?

Angie, I agree with you, I had no idea what a "cheat" day was and when explained all I could think was ok, your only "cheating" yourself but if that floats your boat go for it. I am fairly new, came to this thread to get tips and tricks from experienced LC'ers, was not expecting to hear about cheat diets or what ever the name is so I would certainly vote for a separate thread for those not doing low carb. I was confused and I'm sure I am not alone but I have been doing Atkins since Sept so pretty much new the ropes, someone early on might be really thrown off the concept with these other discussions. Just saying my 2 cents, don't mean to offend anyone.

Fri I had a completely give up day, was so frustrated and craving fruit which really isn't a bad thing so I ate it and as much as I wanted till I felt content. I then went on to have a few beers, if your going to mess up you might as well do a good job, right? Yesterday I got up, after dreaming all night long, and climbed right back in the saddle. Time to pull up my big girl pants and suck it up till I accomplish this goal which I fully intend to do.

I think we're all entitled to a poor me day now and again. It was snowing to beat the band, not fit for man nor dog out the door and things inside the door were pretty bleak as well so that was my day. Now I'm refocused and ready to hit this like a snow plow going after those drifts, I'll slam through it if it kills me!

Spent an extra 45 minutes with Wally yesterday and think I'll go for a hour longer with him today. If that doesn't work the way I want then tomorrow he'd best be ready for the ride of his life! Wii just dance is on stand by too, spent 1/2 hour with that on Thurs but hour durations will be in store until I break the back of this stall.

On a more upbeat note, I made the Pizza Hut breadsticks/muffins yesterday and oh my gosh are they ever good. Daughter and (almost) son in law had 1 and wanted to take the plate of them home, NOT. DH really enjoyed his with dinner last night, told me I could make them any time and I thought they were wonderful and can recommend them to all. It says it makes 9 but I got 10 good sized muffins out of it so adjusted the counts accordingly making it 2.54 net carbs each. A recipe I'll be using again for sure, would be so delicious with spaghetti squash, ground beef and tomato sauce dinner. With a small salad it'd be the perfect LC meal.

Rambled on long enough, I'm pumped a bit about moving forward, can you tell? Sure wish we didn't have those down days as they are so hard to take but I guess there is never all good and you have to take the bad along with it.

I'm going to make it good from now on, even if it KILLS me! Fat buster attitude has replaced the downer, look out world......

I will be a success.

Good morning, all!

Well, I just made a batch of Low Carb Spinach Lasagna. Fantastic!! You have to try it! I can't wait until lunch!

Sunkeeper- Where is that recipe for the Pizza Hut breadsticks/muffins?? I'd love to make some of those myself!

MorePlease- Is Netrition a website? Or, can I buy liquid Splenda in the grocery store?

As for all of this talk about starting a new thread for those who don't live a full-time low-carb lifestyle: This group is for those that stick to the low-carb way of eating, and I'm here to learn as much as I can from them. But, let's not jump the gun. If we can all just agree to keep any chatter that doesn't help us meet our goals OUT of the conversation, then we don't have to exclude anyone. Well, that's MY 2 cents, and that's all I'm going to say about that. Wink

Now I'm off to plan my meals for the week before I go grocery shopping this afternoon...

Have a terrific day, everyone!

In not saying any more I think you've said it all. This thread is called LOW CARB DAILY CHECK IN

Over and out.....

Thanks, Sunkeeper!

I just ordered the coconut flour needed to make them from Netrition.com. I can hardly wait...I haven't had anything that even closely resembles bread in 2 months! You're the best!

Your welcome Julie. You'll love them, really good if both of the men wanted more.

Have you tried muffin in a minute? Lots and lots of fiber in them, flax meal and so easy to make. On induction you have to use them sparingly only 1 a week I think it is but so worth it. Lots of different flavors of those too from basil or herb to chocolate.

I also made some pizza crusts when I made the muffins for later this week, it's with almond flour and though I've not tried them as yet they sure smelled good. Looking forward to having pizza!

I think the "cheat" term is applicable, as it doesn't HAVE to be deceitful. It can simply be short-hand for going off plan, no negative connotations assigned! It's just a word - use it if you like, don't if you don't. I'm sure George Carlin would have something witty to add here, but I'm not as smart as he was lol!

Good Morning Everyone....I am listening to the chatter about CHEAT days...

Every year I would make the same resolution...I'm going on a diet...I'm going to lose weight...yada yada yada...and it never happened...WELL...This year I will be 49, and I woke up one day and said I was not going to be FAT AND FIFTY! So, when I decided to grow up and do it, I decided it was for the rest of my life...I, MYSELF...have to be the responsible one...I got myself into this mess, and I am going to get myself out!!!

Now, having said that....I am not an expert in weight loss, nor do I pretend to be....I do however love doing the research and this group has been quite supportive when I have questions that need answers.

I feel that a CHEAT day is doing an injustice to yourself for all the hard work you have done...why do it if you are not going to do it right?

I know the temptations are out there...I deal with them everyday...My children want to eat things that I will never put in my mouth again! Again I have to be the responsible one and stick to that decision.

SO...for those of you who feel like you need that CHEAT day....That is your decision and I won't think any less of you! But, I think you are setting yourselves up to just go back to the same BAD habits.

I'll step down from the cross now...I am sure someone else needs the wood!

Have a fantastic LOW CARB day!

Julie--yes, it is called EZSweet, it is simply liquid sucralose which is splenda. Sorry for the confusion. I have never found it in a store. I have had it for at least a month now and it still feels full, so it lasts a long time.

But, I have found the liquid stevia in our local health food store if you wanted to try and find it locally. Still, not brave enough to try it and I asked if they had a bottle for sampling and was told no.

MorePlease - Don't be afraid of Stevia. It is almost the only sweetener that I use, especially since I refuse to use aspartame or sucralose at all. It seems that all of the artificial sweeteners are really, really bad for us. Believing that makes it a lot easier to switch over to stevia. Actually, aspartame gives me a dreadful headache so cutting it out was no problem at all.

Anyway, I mainly use a product called Stevia Plus. Mine came from Whole Foods but I just checked and Amazon has it from a couple of different companies. Stevia Plus has some fiber content. I have also used plain stevia powder and liquid stevia drops.

Although I like the taste of Stevia Plus best of the stevia products that I have tried, none of them are going to taste exactly like sugar. You knew there had to be a catch, didn't you? Depending on how I plan to use it, I may add some vanilla extract or even a small quantity of honey or real white or brown sugar. By now I am so used to the taste of stevia that I rarely feel the need to add anything else.

Hope this helps you take the plunge into using stevia. It really isn't very exotic at all and has been used in other parts of the world for a long, long time.

April- After doing some research, I figured that's what you were going to say and I ordered the EZSweetz when I ordered the coconut flour to make the Pizza Hut muffins. I used that website that you referenced. Thank you so much!Smile

I already had a serving of the spinach lasagna and it's not even 10:00 am yet! But it's ok- only 2 net carbs. So good! You've gotta try it if you haven't already!

Sunkeeper - Yet again you really inspire me to maintain a positive frame of mind and keep marching forward. Your words:

"Success is the good fortune that comes from aspiration, desperation, perspiration and inspiration. I will be a success."

would be a good motto for this group, this effort, and so many others.

Stay warm up there!
