Dear friends! I missed you all during my six week hiatus. Sadly, I picked up a few (more than a few - 7) pounds (the cake decorating contest at school gets me every year! I love frosting way too much...)! But, I'm back on the horse and already can feel my body responding to good, healthy food!

My thoughts on how to help a new person? Log everything! Read labels carefully - there are lots of surprises. Finally, keep Atkins bars handy for those times when you are running and find yourself unprepared with good food. They are loaded with protein and won't blow your carb count for the day.

Unfortunately, I will have limited internet access for the next week or so Sad We're backing up our entire computer to the cloud, and it takes forever. They say we can still use it, but it moves like frozen molasses.

Julie - Russell Stovers has a whole line of low carb chocolates. There are a number of other sugar free hard candies that are pretty good - I like Baskin Robbins Sugar Free and Wurther's Originals Sugar Free (particularly the cappucino flavor!).

Good morning all! So happy to be off the fat fast but, like Toni, I am not hungry at all and nothing really sounds good. It could be because I had a touch of a stomach bug that has been going around the office. I had to leave work yesterday and slept all afternoon. Had some sprite zero because that's what someone recommended. But I have been so deep in ketosis that my mouth has had that metallic taste that would not go away. I wasn't hungry but I kept thinking you need chicken soup.. so after an hour of arguing with myself, I did eat about 1/2 can with some saltines. Felt MUCH better. I guess I should listen to myself sometimes.

This morning I was up 1/2 pound but still in ketosis... although not as deep. I have absolutely no appetite at all. Has anyone else had this? I need to eat and I will but this is strange.

Jaime - Already into March? You go girl!!!

Toni - when you decide what to eat today, post and maybe I'll just let you decide for me..lol

Rachel - I don't know where you live but I'm thinking it must be in my neck of the woods... same weather around here ... snow one week and tornadoes the next. My son is in LA in school and when I text him about it he'll say, 'Hmmm that's a shame... it's sunny and 73 here, AGAIN.' I think he gets his sarcasm from his father's side of the family.

Myrna, honey, I'm glad you have a sense of humor because rearing boys requires LOTS of it. Smile Mine are 25 and 22... and let me tell you there have been so many times I've thought "well, I can either cry about this or laugh about it" Usually I did a little of both.

Hope you all have a great day!Smile

Wow guys! This amount of activity is amazing! So good to hear from everyone. Smile

Myrna - lol you crack me up! Your cat! Aren't they oh so helpful? I hope your knee feels better soon! I know what you mean about wanting to spread the LC word but encountering resistance. My boyfriend's mum was a nurse (20yrs ago) and when the BF told her I was eating LC she asked me a lot of questions about it but was very negative about it and told me how unhealthy it is to eat so much fat, blah blah blah. I try to avoid conversations like that with her now because I just don't want to feel like I have to explain myself every time I have dinner at their house! lol, don't get me wrong tho, I love her to bits, she's a lovely lady, but she also needs to lose a lot of weight and I wish she'd just give LC a go cause I know it would work for her.

Btw, those are all really good pieces of advice and low carb tips everyone! Smile

Rachel - keep writing your books, I love reading them! No need to apologise for long posts. Smile Wow, 40 inside your house - make sure you rug up!

Julie - my absolute favourite sweet treat to have is lime jello pie and it's induction friendly too! I got the recipe from Linda's Low Carb and I always have a batch sitting in the fridge. The good thing is, if you don't like lime, you can make it any jello flavour you like. Smile Here's the link if you're interested in giving it a try:

http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/crustless_keylime_pie.html

Also, by frankenfoods, I just mean processed foods hehe. For example, hot dogs/frankfurters. I used to eat them all the time, assuming they were low carb cause they're meat.. I finally checked the packet one day and they were 6g per sausage! So definitely something to limit lol. I'd call the Atkins products frankenfoods aswell (like the bars, chocolate, shakes, etc.). Not that I'm saying don't eat them, just that they can cause stalls and I like to know what's going into my food so I try to make it from scratch where I can. I like the Atkins chocolate bars occasionally when I'm craving chocolate tho. Smile

Sunkeeper - I don't like eating coconut oil straight off the spoon either. I usually have it in my tea or coffee and I find it a lot nicer. Yeah, I definitely noticed quicker weight loss when I started drinking a lot more water so def a good tip!

Jaime - congrats on reaching your Feb goal! You're a whole month ahead now! You go girl! Very Happy Poor Black Betty, hopefully you get her back soon! How frustrating it is for you that your hubby isn't on the bandwagon with you! My BF will often complain about his man-boobs and how he wants to get fit/lose some weight but he's constantly making bad food choices (he can't just eat one chocolate, he'll eat the whole box). It's really frustrating cause it's like don't complain about it if you're not gonna make any changes to your way of life!

Azarellanos - hang in there, it's only a couple of days (tho it must seem like forever, I def do sympathise!), you'll get there eventually and have some great results to show for it. Very Happy

Mokakiss - 40nc is still low, I'm sure you'll be able to keep to that amount. Smile

Toni - congrats on your TOM loss! Smile

Myrna - kids pick up stuff so easily! And older cousins can have a big influence lol, good on you for keeping your humour about it. Smile

Pete1998 - I had a bit of a gain in the last couple of weeks too. Hang in there, we'll get there eventually. Good on you for jumping straight back on the wagon! Smile

Back2128 - glad to hear you're feeling better! Stomach bugs are not fun. I've been having the opposite problem, I'm getting hungry more often! lol, not sure why, I've been trying to get my fat levels up. Maybe I'm STILL not eating enough fat.

Welcome, danzaldo! Smile

Went snowboarding for about 1.5 hours last night instead of going running, my legs are a bit sore today but def a good sore! Gonna go to the movies tonight so I've gotta swing by the grocery store tonight on my way home to pick up pork rinds and an Atkins chocolate bar (my popcorn and candy equivalent). Not sure what we're doing for dinner yet, will probably eat out cause the movie goes late, I think I feel like Japanese (love me some sashimi!) so will try to steer the BF in that direction hehe.

Hope you're all having a great day! Smile

Even on the fat fast I did not get any farther than moderate ketosis. Even that doesn't last long, it goes back down to slight. Anyone have any suggestions?

Love these long posts, like Julie, I get up each morning and read the posts whilst I have my wake up coffee! True Julie it keeps me motivated too, and sets me up for a LC day! Someone posted read read read... so true you do need to educate yourself to low carb in many ways, posting here and connecting with you all makes a huge difference to my life-Thankyou!
Julie keep at it-they will go!
Sunkeeper, I always fall down on the water, thanks for the reminder-I'll try to do better today.
Jaime, fantastic you made your goal! and my husbands the same, every Monday morning 'Right this is it! I hate my belly! I'm starting a diet-I'm serious-no more bad stuff!!!!' He makes his lunch-oh I forgot-was only going to take 1 sandwich for lunch today (he made 2) Takes it anyway 'cos he can't waste it... takes 2 pcs fruit, muesli bar, crackers with wedges of cheese! Comes home raids the fridge, 'mmm I really feel like a beer - just the one' he says, usually is just one or a couple of wines. Dinner is always LC but I add a potato for him or pasta etc... he eats all on his plate and finishes mine-hates wastage. If anyone brinks cake or biscuits here he would eat it over a couple of days -won't waste good food. He hasn't got much to lose, and he does exercise a lot...if he just stuck to it for say 4 weeks he would lose those 3 k! I've stopped telling him.
Stephanie, good luck with the F Fast
Mocakiss, whats causing the cravings? If you keep below 50 you will stay in ketosis I believe...be good x
Toni have a lovely day with your fragrances!
Myrna, I'm sure you'll hit the 240s soon... kids! Been there done that.... all grown up now and I still have to sort stuff out Smile
Pete welcome back! The Atkins bars are a good tip, I always take one with me... hand when having coffee out as there is not much or anything in a typical coffee shop for a low carber to eat over here.
Back, I have not done the fat fast, but you may find the 'bug' has affected you, as far as the metallic taste-yes definitely I have had that-it comes with deep ketosis... remember the sticks are not always completely accurate, if you drink heaps they might not show a reading or just a little. Hope you feel better soon.
Danzaldo, welcome to the group, how are you doing?

Leikoa, I avoid talking low carb with some ppl too, they are not educated about it, and have heard bad reports from the past. They don't realise that new discoveries with the science has been made and losing weight this way is actually very healthy... normally I just say I'm trying to avoid sugar and eat natural unprocessed foods.

Welcome to any other newbies jump in and tell us about your self and your goals Smile

The mini topic was great yesterday, lots of input from everyone, thanks for all the good advice.

Good Evening Infadels.....lol Achmed cracks me up! Anyway...little bad mouth is in bed early as his punishment. I believe he is also the one who stabbed 3 bananas on the counter yesterday...so I told them, all 3 of my boys...the names are, "not me, I dunno and the invisible one". I actually only have 2 (7 yr old twin boys). But, the invisible one showed up a couple of months ago...I guess if he's going to live here I should name him! Gggrrrr...any way I told them to eat them before they went bad and I got 2 NOS... So I blended them up with a little ice and milk...threw in a little strawberry syrup and they drank them all up...I asked them how they liked the banana smoothies...and they said...."|What bananas"!!! Lmao...I should write a book!

Toni- got the bacon on! How long do you leave it in? I can't find my instructions.

Leikoa- your BF's mother is probley right...low carb can be unhealthy if not done properly....just like the episode I was having with the coffee...that was scary...never happened before...but I guess all the changes going on to my body made caffeine a no no for me...

You all have a great evening....I'm going to go spend some time with bike......

George, I think I'll call him George!

hey guys, to avoid all questions, i just tell people i have a new lifestyle, its healthier and i am losing the weight. I am not LCing so strictly like most of you, i still have moderate portions of carbs, but it is working for me. Educating yourself is very powerful. i am a RN and looking at the LC diet it seems unhealthy, but when u eat the right combination of healthy fats it is just fine. no one stays in induction forver. Carbs IS GRADUALLY ADDED BACK TO YOUR DIET. moreover it encourages you to drink plenty water,(wether u like it or not, u get really thirsty). it also encourages u to eat lots of veggies, so by the time ur out of induction, ur on ur way to a healthy lifestyle. When i just started out i used to weight everything, now i kinda estimate some stuff but watching my portions. I know am making healthier choices, so i am in the right direction.
My groceries finally came, but my veggies did not come, so i have to go "tough it out" for another week. Can i tell you'all that i managed to lose 2lbs through my crisis of 'no veggies'.

Danzaldo- a big welcome to u and dontr be shy to vent, encorage and share.

Who dare to eat coconut oil off the spoon, thats probably hard to swallow. where i live i get it home made, cold or hot compress. Love it in just about everything, gives it a nice flavor.

MYrna...Rally now? George? lmao! Riding George? hmmm! If that motivates you. All the best girl. Dont hacckle the knee too much now.

Julie- My question: What Low-carb sweet treat do you recommend? My answer is Cream Cheese Clouds. I make a double batch at a time and keep them in an air tight container in the freezer. They contain 1 Net Carb/ bite and are delicious. Use the basic recipe then add whatever kind of flavoring you’d like. I personally like to add 1.5 tsp of lemon juice instead of the vanilla flavoring. Just check your flavorings to make sure they don’t contain carbs or if they do adjust the carb counts accordingly. Just as another side note, that website is one of my number one go to sites for recipes (I think most everyone on here uses it). There are lots of other “sweet” recipes on there as well. Anything marked with * is induction friendly. The Russell Stover candies are great too!
Sunkeeper- I sure hope the weather gets better for you soon!! I would LOVE to have that recipe for the Coconut Oil Almond Joy Bark- Coconut. That’s a new one on me and I like the carb counts. You are so very right about eating coconut oil off the spoon being disgusting. I keep trying it but it’s just not working for me LOL
Jaime- Hello March Goals! Wow that’s amazing and I’m so glad you are able to do that. Keep up the good work. It sounds like DH is keeping your hands full!! Throw out all that bad food and the daughter can eat healthier too. OR could get one of those child proof magnetic cabinet locks and only give the key to the junk food to her. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
Stephanie- You are right! Fat fast day 1 is hard. But it does get easier!
Moka- Sometimes it’s just best to get that craving out of the way then get back on track. I hope your game plan works out for you!
Tony- CONGRATS on loss during TOM! I’m going to give the “fat fast” another try starting Monday when everyone else is out of the house and I am able to do what is best for me without everyone bugging me about it all day. I’m having a hard time with the 90% fat ratio but I’m going to play this weekend with menus and see what I can come up with.
Myrna- That sodium gets us every time! Hang in there you know that water will go on and you’ll be in 240’s before you know it. Don’t get too upset- Children will be children and even though you taught him better there are other influences out there that will sway their actions. Oh my goodness!!! 7 year old twin boys! You sure have your hands full. Isn’t it great when you are able to slip food in on them? Enjoy your time with George!
Tiffany- WELCOME BACK!!! I was wondering where you’d disappeared to. It’s so good to see you back. Darn cake icing!! I will be looking forward to seeing you more often once the computer is backed up. Just remember once the major stuff is done it takes a lot less time to add the new stuff. I had NO idea that Wurther’s Originals made SF candy---in a cappuccino flavor none the less! I’m going to have to get with the program and find some of that.
Sarah- I sure hope you feel better and that virus is gone soon! I also had the “not hungry” issue when eating high fat. I actually have started incorporating more fat into my diet to reduce my overall portions of food. I live in central TN. Not sure where you live either. Dad kept pulling those stunts while he was in Florida. He kept calling daily reminding us of how sunny and warm it was. I was not impressed!
Danzaldo- WELCOME!! Hope to see you often.
Leikoa – Isn’t all this chatter just amazing! I’m like McDonald’s “MMMM MMM Lovin’ It.” I’ll keep writing but hopefully I’ll be able to post more often and stop writing a book at a time! It was oh so very cold and I was worried about the baby. Thankfully he’s a little hot box and was sweating as much as I was shivering. Thank goodness everything’s back to normal now—at least for now! Snowboarding sounds like fun!!
Rdrunr- I never ever get above moderate ketosis on the strips. As long as you are burning that’s the important part. Some people never register above the slight and some immediately register deep.
Linda- Your answer to the “low carb convo” sounds like mine. I just respond with eating meats and veggies and avoiding sugars and starches. Thanks for the mini discussion. It was great to read everyone else’s tips and tricks too!

Completely back on track for me today! NO cookie, no hershey’s kisses, nothing sweet. I’ve actually had very minimal food today. I’m also getting ready for my internship to start and I’ve been trying to figure out what I could do to still feed everyone without having to come home and cook after everyone is too tired to eat. So I’m looking at crock pot recipes and foods that are freezer friendly. Anything that I can cook on the weekends and freeze for the week is great in my book.

I've been making a feeble attempt to start adding a little exercise into my life again so I've joined several challenges that encourage just small things. I'm hoping that with those exercise challenges everything else will come together a little better. We will see!
