Leikoa - you can, and it sounds like Dorothy has emailed you about it Smile

azarellanos - slow and steady will get you there!

Julie - without knowing what your net carbs are it is hard to say. It sounds hard to get your net carbs at 20 or under a day but it really isn't. If your carbs are 30 and you are getting 20 grams of fiber then you should be okay, but if your carbs are 30 and you only have 2 gams of fiber then you need to cut some more back. How much water are you drinking? What is your sodium intake on an average daily basis? Have you cut out starches, breads, pastas? These all could be playing a part. Sometimes it is a test to see what is working for our bodies, and how quickly we want to lose. I hope this helps you get an idea of some of the things to take a look at. Don't get discouraged you are setting some good habits for yourself.

Myrna - congratulations on the 20 minutes!!!

Good morning everyone well I feel like I will see a bit of a loss back this morning from my HuHot escapade!!

I hope everyone has a great day today. It is cold outside!!! It was 19 when I got up at 4:45am and it is now 23 degrees. It will start warming back up...but not by very much. Supposed to get some more snow tomorrow, and then another 'heat wave' it may actually get to the 30's!!! I am so ready for some warmer weather.

I hope you all have a great day.

Morning!

Julie... according to atkins when starting the induction you should have a net carb cound of 20-25 net carbs.. 20 is the number to jump start the fat burning process as atkins states it...
Basically DITTO to everything Jaime said above! Very Happy Laughing

Myrna.. good job on increasing your time on the bike..

Everyone have a great day..

I have a question, which has most likely been answered many times but I'm too lazy to look back through all the posts. About how long does is take to get into ketosis? After how many days should I begin testing with strips?
Thanks!

Oh me I'm behind. Congrats to all who have lost!! Those who may not have...hang in there. Those who have gained like me, it's time to get back on track and watch the pounds melt. I'm still managing to get food logged but not doing so great about staying in touch otherwise. After tomorrow I'll be able to stay on track and come check in with everyone.

Julie - One of the great things about FS is that if you set your food diary to public other people can help you. Most of us have our food diaries set to public, which can help you in a couple of ways. If you see that someone else is being successful, go look at their specific food entries for the week. It will give you some ideas on how to come in under 20 net carbs (induction goal). It also might inspire you to eat a different breakfast or lunch if you get in a food rut. Look at how others are getting a variety of vegetables etc. If someone posts that they had a horrible week, go take a peek and see what that looks like. Believe me, it is not considered being nosey! We are all in this together and want one another to succeed. One thing you have going for you right now is that you have the courage to ask for help. That's aces in my book!

I've been MIA for a while but I'm trying to get back into the habit of posting instead of just reading.

Julie - I think you need to look at your calories as well as your carbs. I've had a similar issue. If your calorie intake is too low, with the amount that you exercise, your body will go into survival mode and just hang on to everything you put in. You exercise A LOT so you need to take that into consideration when planning your meals. I think, because of the amount that you do exercise, you need to increase your carb intake just a little and get your calories up a little as well. I hope this helps. Keep us posted! Smile

This active group is awesome! Hang in there everyone! It will be worth it in the end!

Hi Everyone. Just wanted to check in. I joined a challenge for fasting. I'm doing what Christie had introduced before the holidays....a 2 day/week cycle of fasting (dinner to dinner for me). I'm going to do it for a month and I joined the challenge just to stay accountable. So far so good. I thought I saw a link on here someone, so helpfully, had posted for the Atkins Fat Fast. I'm going to go back and read that too for when I get close to my final goal weight/size. I think if I follow the plan, log all my food (for accountability) and get some exercise in a few times a week, I'll be at goal by Spring. Hope everyone is doing well!

My goodness it's cold outside!!!

Hi Everyone and Happy Tuesday. I bought some Atkin Bars over the weekend, and wondered what the consensus is about the advantage. I origianlly bought a box to throw into my car so I would have a healthy snack while traveling. I threw a couple in my desk at work, but that may have to be revisited if I am continuosly reaching for them.

my first weight in is Thursday, which will be one week. I am so nervous!

Have a wonderful day.

Sarah - I think it is really different for everyone...you know that each body is different thing. For most of us I believe the consensus is a couple two or three days to get back in. When I have stalled myself and am really strict the next day then that following morning I might see a trace.

Rachel I am so glad that you have kissed/kicked that course good bye!! Good to see you back here Smile

Darri - very good advice; couldn't agree more!

Stacy - Great to 'see' you and that is great advice!

Julie - what Stacy said is very true. If you haven't already go check your RDI and if you need to adjust your weight or your exercise (moderate, etc) then do so. Your RDI will adjust itself to let you know what your caloric intake should be. We all need to remember to do this as we lose weight. Probably a good rule of thumb would be once every week or couple of weeks. *making a mental note to try to remember this*

Hey Mokakiss - I posted that link...Toni inspired me to go reading and I came across it. I have been thinking of another fat fast like we did around the holidays as well (dinner to dinner) for me. Thinking I may do it Thursday since we are going out (most likely) Thursday night before the concert.

Hey Karen - I think they are good to have when there is nothing availale or when you must have something 'sweet'. There are some that have had them and notice that they make them 'stall' or 'slow' in their weightloss. So my advice would be to watch carefully as you introduce them to see how they react with your body and metabolism. Good luck on the weigh in!!

Thanks, Jaime, I just didn't want to begin testing a few days in if it normally takes one a couple of weeks or something. Last time I did low carb I never actually tested to see what was happening. This time, I'd like to be a little more specific with my activities.

I think it is better to test not too long after you are up in the morning too. When you are drinking a lot of water it can sometimes give you a 'diluted result'. So maybe try testing on Thursday morning. Someone also suggested to cut the strips in half to get more use out of them....they work the same.

Darri- I completely agree with you. It's great to be able to go through and look at other peoples food logs to see what other options are available.

Stacy- It's good to see you back. I know how easy it is to get in the habit of just reading through but not actually posting. Hope to talk with you more throughout the weeks to come. You always have such great input.

Moka-I am going to continue doing more research about the fat fast but I think I'm going to start doing the intermittent fasting again on Thursday then every Tues/ Thurs after. I was doing so much better at staying on track and actually peeling off the weight when I was sticking to the fasting schedule.

Karen- I have bars stashed for emergencies and they have to be really major reasons to eat them. I don't gain weight when I eat them but I don't lose weight for days after if I do eat them. Some people digest sugar alcohols the same way they digest sugar and it has the same effect. I can drink the Atkins shakes all day and still lose because they contain no sugar alcohols. This is the same thing with the sugar free candy--can't eat it because of the SA. You may just have to try and see what your body will let you do/not do with the various Atkins products. Good Luck and hope this info helps.

Jaime--I have never been more happy to see a specific class end! I'm so glad it's over and with a 95.9% I might add! But it didn't go without leaving behind some serious weight gain consequences. I'm back and ready to fight if I have to.

Sarah- I have the best results when testing first thing in the morning. I also cut my strips in half as someone else suggested. Those little things go fast and they aren't "cheap". Good luck to you!

I finally got around to trying one of the Atkins frozen meals today. I have to say--for a frozen microwave dinner, I was impressed. I had the Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo and it was absolutely delicious. I guess I'm going to be living off of Atkins products today. I promised a friend that I'd watch her children while she went job searching today then overslept so I had to just grab what i could get my hands on for breakfast, lunch and snacks. I ended up with two Advantage Strawberry Shakes, Two frozen dinners and some flavor packets for my water because I can only drink so much water before I get burned out so I allow one of my sweeteners to be the flavored water. So far everything has gone well though. I have plans for stuffed poblano peppers tonight for supper if I make it home in time to fix them. I should be way within the realm of safe with my carb/calorie counts today.

I too am really missing Angie and Christie. Hopefully Angies computer will get fixed soon and whatever has Christie pulled away will let her come back soon too!

Hi yall. I'm new to this group but have been on here for a few weeks now. How do we do the daily check in? I weigh twice a week and measure once a week. I did two weeks in induction, lost 14lbs in the first ten days. I've been in OWL for almost a week and I'm down a total of 21lbs with 104lbs to go. I see so many of yall have done so well on the journey to feeling better and getting healthy. I look forward to getting to know yall better and continuing to watch yalls journey.

Hi Hdp2102.. Glad to have you here with us.. as you see the group is very active and provides alot of support and motivation.. When checking into the group - you've actually come to the right area. DAILY CHECK IN.. there are some that make a new topic but when doing that we can lose track of one another..
If you're speaking of the Challenge - you click on My challenges on the right hand side and click update progress..
You're doing a great job! Keep up the good work and we look forward to hearing from you..

Rachel.. I know you are so happy that the classes are over.. You are going to get on track sooner than you know it!

Vcravener - Wow, you're doing Zumba! I commend you, I get tired looking at the infommercial! lol lol. Also keep up the good work on the weight loss!m

As for everyone doing the fasting/fat fast I commend you as well.. I am too chicken to do it! I don't know if I could make it, the idea of a FAST in general makes me HUNGRY!

I had to write into FATSECRET yesterday because in some areas on the site I am unable to write posts - I press SAVE and I get the FATsecret error message.. Also I am unable to document in the Challenge area.. I have tried.. It's not even showing the accurate weight now in the challenge..The only area it's showing the correct weight from my end is on the journal and the top right hand side.. The ticker wasn't updating my new weight so I just had it removed etc etc etc.. so I have no idea what is going on..I guess I will have to wait and see what happens.. I just want to FEEL included in the Challenge and the posts that didn't show - my results and posts don't show I feel blah ...

HeeHee I just rambled..sorry - but some of you that have had problems posting know what I mean..

Well I'm going to go look at some more posts.. Hope everyone's day is going well..

I am at the end of my 2nd day on the fat fast. It's been pretty easy and I haven't been hungry, which was a real relief. With that said, I will be glad when tomorrow is over. Even though I'm not hungry, I really want to eat something. I really like cream cheese but when that's all you can have, it gets old really fast. I went to the grocery tonight to get some macadamias to add some variety and I couldn't find macadamias only. Truely disappointed. Oh well, one more day I can do. Then Iwill weigh in on Thursday and see if it was worth it!
