checking in, nice day here I don't think it will get too hot today. I have to go to the framers, then the shops for a few things, but want to get back early, I have a daughter coming to stay for a couple of weeks, she's getting married later this year and wants to organise a few things/menu/dresses etc.

Warm welcome Julie

Jaime, I'm on hol's at the moment but when I go back to work I'm going to try they beef lunch-sounds very nice. You are pretty organised today, it makes a big difference to sticking with LC

Buffy, we will miss you, I hope you can drop by every now and then to say hi! Congrat's on the 5lbs

mjstan I'm addicted to the scales, and would find it hard to resist. So glad you are feeling so well!

Jaime so HaPpY FoR YoU!

Stpierrem thanks for posting that link again, I do want to read more on SBeach.

If anyone else posted links in the past that were useful please post again when you have time ...

Hi, new member here. I have over a 100 lbs to lose, but I am trying not to think that far out. I leave for a cruise in 35 days, and I dread the plane ride out! The seats keep getting smaller! I really want to succeed this time on south beach. I know what I need to do, I just need to stop sabotaging myself. Hopefully having support from the group will keep me on track.

Hi Karen, welcome to our group, you have come to the right place for friendship and lots of support. We have many active members here and we post daily in this topic. You will be surprised at how much you can lose in 35 days doing low carb. You just have to stick with it and no cheats Smile Checking in here and logging your foods WILL help keep you on track. Have you done low carb or SBeach before?

Welcome Julie and Karen.

Guilty as charged. I have not been a good girl. I think I got frustrated with not having the resources I need to keep up with a LC lifestyle, on this island. My veggies went low from last week and I became so distracted with all the carbs, that I stop watching what I was eating. A major mistake I made was also not to post, I knew if I was posting I would be motivated and at least made a effort to stay on track. Well, I do t know how I will be doing this, cause I still have no Veggies and won't be getting any on the island for a while ( not until next week). Please I need all the encouragement to push forward, I really want to do this.

Welcome Karentolose...This is a great group! They are so supportive and very helpful...they have helped me change me path, for the better!

Vcravener....I am so jealous of your Zumba...I t will probley be another 6 months before my knee gets to a place I can even attempt it!

Question: Ketosis...Can anyone explain it to me in a language I will understand? When do you get it and how will you know? Thanks

Hello and welcome to everyone new! Checking in here daily over the past several months has really been beneficial to me sticking to this change in the way I eat. It actually is something I look forward to. Everyone is so helpful and encouraging and that's so important. Being here makes me feel like I'm a part of something Smile

Jamie!!! So happy for you!!! You're doing just awesome, and I love your mini-goals. Slow and steady wins the race! So proud of you Very Happy

Linda, I think I saw somewhere that you were now down to 72! Hooray for you!!! Very Happy Great job!!

Myrna, you're right! We're all gonna have days where we "mess up" a little, but that's just one day out of so many days that we didn't Smile Just because we slip up one day, doesn't mean we're gonna slip up again the next or the next, right? Smile

You were asking about Ketosis. Our bodies make sugar naturally (insulin), and when not eating low-carb, we pile all kinds of extra sugar (carbs) on top of that. Once we stop eating so many carbs, our bodies will use all of the sugar it has for energy and then switch over to burning fat for energy instead. That is called Ketosis.

Karen, Linda is right. If you stay under 20 net carbs a day, eat lots of green, leafy veggies and drink lots of water, you'll be amazed at how much you can lose in those 35 days. I'm so excited for you going on a cruise! That's gonna be a lot of fun! And you're gonna feel so much better by then. You can do this, and we're all here to help you! Smile Good luck to you!

Vicki, I'm sorry you're not feeling good today Sad I hope tomorrow goes a lot better for you <3

Lealiash, we're all here for you! I know it will be more difficult following the low-carb way of eating without veggies, but it still can be done Smile Just try to keep your carbs at a minimum and try to stay away from the high-carb foods, grains, starches, sugars as much as you can. If you have to eat them, be very minimal with your portions. A lot of high-carb foods can still be eaten if you stick to one serving. Just read the labels or look up the carb amounts online. Or maybe just watch your calories until you can get some more veggies? We're here if you need us!

Checking in for the day.. Looks like we've been busy, the site is going to get full of posts sooner than we know it! My day as always pretty busy.. Got the twins off to school - came home had to wash some clothes, straighten up a bit and then off to my appts!! I was so hungry when I left the house.. I hadn't ate all morning and by afternoon I failed to pack a decent snack in my purse (sigh sigh) , I was so tempted to eat something fast - I pulled over dug in my purse and I found some snacks in there.. I really didn't want to indulge but I "had" to! It was 2 pieces of sugar free candy Sad I had told myself I was going to cut back for a while .. came home and ate some stuffed mushrooms.. So Now I am Good!

Jaime, congratulations on your weight loss getting out of the 208's! I know you were doing the happy dance.. I could only imagine the look on your face... Smile So happy for you..

Linda, you've been a busy bee.. love how you are providing so much support and motivation..

Vcravener, you're human don't be hard on yourself.. If you're not in a good mood.. You just aren't in a good mood! Take every day as it comes..

Angie, can't wait for that computer of yours to start working again.. Miss you girlie!

To all the newbies WELCOME ABOARD! This group is very active and it appears you all are fitting in PERFECTLY! Wink

Hope everyone had a great day!!

vcravener sucks dosent it when we feel 'off' I do hope you are to rights soon, are you taking a vitamin tablet, Atkins do recommend them in the first levels? Might help x Zumba hey? Let us know what you think... I've seen the adds on television, and wondered if I bought it - would I actually use it.

Lealiash, I think watching calories is the best move if you are faced with no veges and only higher carb choices. Limited portions is the way I would go Smile

Myrna Angie gave you a good description, by going 20 net carbs max, you should be in ketosis after about 3-4 days, some are sooner. You will maybe get a slight headache, some ppl get bad breath. The main thing you will notice is you will not be hungry and have no cravings.
You can also buy at the local pharmacy some keytone testing strips, these are dipped into your urine and change colour when keytones are present. Sometimes they are a bit unreliable, if you drink lots of water the keytones may not show, but they are still there. As a general guide most people who are under 50 nc are in ketosis. I do use the strips myself and usually show middle range pink, I have never shown deep purple...( the strips change colour from say a skin tone to deep purple) Hope this helps.

BBD Glad you found those snacks, pulled you through!

Pork chops/salad for dinner, going to stir fry some cauli' too throw in some soy sauce, sesame oil and a few nuts yum had it before Smile

Good morning! Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone!

Lealiash- I feel your pain...I had 3/4 cup of Cheerios this morning because I didn't plan very well. Sad However, I'm dedicated to turn it around today. Going to the market to fill up my kitchen with healthy high-protein, low-carb foods!!Smile

Happy Thursday!!

Welcome to all the new members. This group has been a great touch point for me; it keeps me motivated, inspired and accountable. There is a lot of experience and education to be drawn from here which will really help you on your journey.
Linda, your meals always sound so yum! You just have a way of making it sound so casual and carefree; I'm trying to emulate that more. I'm past the learning curve of what we can and should be eating and on to the creative aspect. I love hearing what people have for meals because looking at a food diary really doesn't tell the story of what someone ate.
Dorothy, sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. Whether it's wearing your socks a second time or eating the sugar-free candies; you aren't going to be judged on that in the end.lol Is the stuffed mushroom recipe in the other thread? I'm loving baby bella mushrooms as part of this WOE, they fill me up and are a good addition to so many dishes.
We have had rain and more rain. It's supposed to turn over to snow tonight but I will believe it when I see it. Poor Lil D (my cat) is not liking all the indoor time. We've had a lot of warm weather this month; the scottish broom and forsythia are already blooming in some yards. Too early! Hope everyone is having a good Thursday....

Angie thanks for the tip on 20 net Carbs. I am going to go on a limb here and say that the carbs calulated in the food diary are not net? Net = Fat - Carbs? I certainly hope so, or I just ate my way through 28 carbs and it is only lunch! Thanks!

Karen--if you are logging your foods you can change the settings to show you net carbs by going to the "edit preferences" on the food logging page and checking Net Carbs instead of Carbs.
Net Carbs =Total Carbs-Fiber/Sugar Alcohols(will not see Sugar Alcohols often)
I hope this helps!

Wow lots of posts already...okay gonna try to cover them all.

Linda - the beef and mushroom mixture is really good and filling. It must be working for me because my stall ended and I have seen some downward movement. What fun!!!! Planning a wedding. My stepdaughter is getting married in September and I am going to be such a slimmer person cannot wait! And it will be at the beach in Florida so added bonus I get to go to the warm beach.

Karen - welcome to the group. My advise would be set some mini goals. Whether they are 5 or 10 lbs (mine are 5#) that helps with not looking at the larger number and feeling overwhelemed. My other suggestion...log everything you eat and drink. Those drinks can creep in. When I stop logging I stop losing and I end up sabotaging myself. Linda is right you will be surprised at how much you can lose in 35 days doing low carb. Several of us have our weight history (and you can take a look); we had loses even with the holidays...so if you just plan it all out it is possible. I am sure there are several of us here that will be happy to help where we can. This is a great group full of support but you must be true to you. I know you will succeed.

Lealiash I know it is not ideal to have the veggies but try to stick with the meats and cheeses; I know you can make it work until the veggies come in.

Vcravener - hoping you are having a better day today.

Myrna - Angie and Linda covered it well with ketosis. Because I drink so much water I think sometimes they are not that accurate. I get the best reading first thing in the morning. Someone else (sorry cannot remember who) suggested even cutting the strips down the middle to make them last longer. I picked mine up behind the pharmacy counter.

Good morning Julie!

Dorothy - sugar free candy is better than something that has sugars girl!!! Don't be so hard on yourself!!

lbsgoner - our seafood market sells stuffed mushrooms and I think all they do is mix some shrimp pieces or you can do salmon or crab pieces or languinista (sp) with some cream cheese and a tad of sourcream and some chives...put it in the mushrooms and maybe top with a little more cheese. I would try some different variations. Sometimes I take an oz of smoked salmon (from the market) and mix it with 2 oz of cream cheese and a tbsp of sourcream and have that as a snack with or without my low carb chips. I think I may try that with the languinista and put it in a mushroom. I will let you know how it works (probably will not be until this weekend).

Karen - Rachel is spot on the net carbs. At first you may think there is no way I can do this but if you take a peek at some of our food diaries you will see what we are eating and how we do it.

As for me.....the scale is still moving some in a downward slide and I am elated. I am already into my 'February Goal' and ahead of my goal schedule. This is good because I know that there will be stalls and bumps along the way and that when I am ahead of goal it will allow for those times when there is no movement.

Today started off with me HUNGRY and then after breakfast I was still feeling like I 'wanted' something. Realized that I had not had my bullet coffee so I am sipping on that now. Then more water and then lunch. Still need to finish planning out dinner.

I hope you all have a great day!!

Morning!

We're off to a great start today with all the posts and support.. Hope everyone has a great day.

Darri.. the stuffed mushroom recipe.. I just used ground pork sausage, chopped onion, mozzarella cheese.. stuffed and they were oh so good!

Jaime and Linda that beef mixture sounds good.. Will have to try that real soon....
You ladies are right about my choice in the quick snack yesterday.. Me eating that sugar free candy was a lot better than me suffering today from a "bad spontaneous choice" from a fast food spot....

I've decided not to weigh myself until this Monday.. weight fluctuating too much past week.....

Everyone have a good day! Will be stopping in - in a bit.

YOU ALL ARE THE BEST! I do not think I could do this without you! I have to tell you a little story on myself... The other day when you all gave me feed back that my diet wasn't low cal...well let's just say I took it hard! (i actually cried for 10 minutes)....NOT YOUR FAULT.... What I lost on the first week was just basically me not eating the crap I normally would...therefore...weight loss! But with the help and support of the wonderful people in this group, I was able to press on, research, and get a better handle on it! My cards are 20 or below, feeling better, and I think getting some of the weight off my knee has really helped! I salute you! Thanks!!!

And I do have a slight headache! Yeah me!

High everyone,

Checking in

I would like to thank everyone for their comments for yesterday, and yes I am taking vitamins every day.

As for today it has been another long day I spent most of it on the phone trying to get medical transportation for my son because after 5 years of them paying for his transportation he no longer qualifies as of the first of the year because his nurse goes long with him.

It's such a long story but it really upsets me how the medical transportation department can refuse to pay for my sons transportation after paying it for the last five years and not even think to notify me about it. I had to find out yesterday when I called to make an appointment.

I did manage to get help through the assistance office but it was an all day affair and a lot of hoops.

I did get my exercises in and I tried the Zumba gold it wasn't to bad but it's gonna take a few days to get the steps right ill keep everyone updated on my progress.

I also missed lunch today and I have to work the midnight shift tonight I hope I can do it without getting hungry .

My weight
