I am new here - but I am kind of doing my own thing. Started with Atkins in December, but after more research, gave up all grain at the beginning of this year. I have lost 23 pounds w/o a "fitness plan". I feel great, and my blood work has been amazing! So I guess I am starting to lean more toward a Paleo diet. I am a type II diabetic - but may be able to stop my meds soon. (Insert hallelujah chorus here.) Very Happy Anyone out there morphing from Atkins to Paleo/Primal?

I did the same thing! On Atkins I lost some weight but I didn't feel comfortable eating so much animal protein in one day. Now I'm leaning towards Paleo. I read a couple of Paleo books and cook books Smile and it definitely seems like the better choice! Good luck!

I am doing the same. I followed Atkins for 2 years and lost 12kg but this year my weight started to creep up. I discovered Paleo and have given up grain, artificial sweeteners and now dairy too. I am still keeping it very low carb so I guess you could call it Low Carb Paleo. Some Paleo followers eat more carbs such as fruits and potatoes but that doesn't suit me as I have carbohydrate intolerance and keeping it low carb would be best if you have Type 2 diabetes too. I hope you do manage to get off your meds!

Started with Atkins one year ago and I'm down almost 60lbs. Just a few weeks after starting Atkins I realized I would never add gluten back into my diet so already cut all grains and never added back in higher carb items such as rice but now I just need to kick the Dt. Coke and artificial sweetener which I cut out yesterday (I think it may be harder to give up than the grains!)

I've been eating Paleo for two weeks now and have dropped 12 lbs. (Man, I was bloated!) I love the food and I have more energy. I haven't started with the suggested monthly cleanse, but it's summer and I can't bring myself to cut out alcohol, so I'm waiting for the end of September. I also am not missing the bread and carbs like I thought I was going to. Sugar, on the other hand, what a tough one to let go! I've cheated a couple of times, but it hasn't seemed to have to much of an affect.

I've also been on Atkins (since Jan. 2011) and I am in the third week of a Whole30 with my daughter. I lost 55 lbs. on Atkins but the scale hadn't budged in eight months. I'm still not losing weight, but I feel so much better after giving up the artificial sweeteners, dairy, and legumes. I was able to begin a walking program each day - I have myasthenia gravis, so for me this is huge. I'm up to a mile each day in 30 minutes.
My next challenge will be to try the paleo autoimmune plan and give up eggs and nightshades. (Yikes! The thought scares the heck out of me - no more eggs for breakfast? What's left to eat?) Is anyone here trying that plan?
Good losing to us all.
