Sad Evil or Very Mad Sad I had my so called cheat day today - it so happens to be at a childrens party and baby shower combined, i started off very well, and then I STUFFED myself on cake and peppermint tart and biscuits and pastries, and steak and wors and bread, I TRIPPLED my calorie intake of 1500 - close to 4000 ----- now ok i messed up but im straight back on the bus tomorrow, I REALY HOPE THIS WONT MESS UP THE PROGRESS I HAVE MADE...anycase i got some weights so will be doing some weights with my walking...

If anyone can give some insight of what i might experience in the next few days with regards to my diet or has ANY advise please feel free to let me know all about it...

FWIW - I find those types of social situations REALLY DIFFICULT!

The expected chit chat with the parents, who other than your kids play together, you may not have a lot in common with. And then there are the other kids who may be difficult to "enjoy" as they are scrambling around and lastly, the manufactured, over zealous gift witnessing (one gift at a time and everyone ooohs and aaahs 45 times in a row).

The whole reason there are those "treats" (and often booze) is to help you get through it. I get so anxious I don't go 50% of the time, and when I do I really do my best not to hate every minute.

I'd say chalk it up to having to deal with a really stressful event which happened to be on your day to splurge. In golf I think they call that a "gimme". Wink

One day doesn't negate everything you have done so far. We all do it at some time or another. The only time it becomes a problem is if you use it as an excuse to give up entirely.

You may just have to stay away from such functions until you get a foothold with your plan. As you make progress you will gain confidence to politely say "No thank you, I'm fine." I add "I"m counting calories and that will put me way over but it looks delicious. Feel free to have my piece."

Sometimes I really want to just binge on cake or whatever but the few times I gave into that temptation I actually made myself sick to my stomach. After a while the body just doesn't want to eat that way.

Focus on eating whole, healthy, unprocessed food. You'll get there...give yourself some time to learn the ropes.

I do a cheat meal instead of a cheat day, because i find if i dont i end up in the same situation. I get one plate and no go backs for seconds. If you only have one plate it kind of makes you set your priorities as to what you really want.

Hi DebCinIL I have been reading up on the spike diet, and it makes sence so I am keeping my cal's under 1400 for 12 days and then i have a cheat day every second saterday, however I had it a wee bit wrong this weekend didnt realy understand by how much i am suppose to take my calories up by but now i do it should only be 2200 - 2600 on a cheat day.. and honestly it works, i feel empowered and i am losing... I think my fear of cheating and going off my diet is long gone, for the 1st time in 8 years i feel I CAN DO THIS!!! Smile but just to be save ill only have a cheat day 2 days a month.... till i feel im ready and i am responsible enough to handle more... it is when you feel deprived and punished that you cheat and in the end fail.... i am training my body to have anything but in small amounts so i dont realy diet, i mean look at the skinny chicks, they eat EVERYTHING!! but they nibble and stop when they full, that is what i need to teach my body to do... My fiance is on the atkins diet, he is on a stall and i am still dropping maybe not as fast but i am losing, and i know i will keep it off... Man I feel alive!! Go and read up on the spike diet and look at Russ, he did it, and this diet makes more sense than any other.. GO SPIKE DIET Smile ...

I allow myself to be a little more free with my calories on the weekends, but I try not to go crazy. Then, during the week I try to get back to what works, eating healthy and exercise. I do try to keep up with exercise on the weekends also, but sometimes with all of the other things that I need to do it's impossible. If I over eat too much now I will feel really sick, so it's getting easier not to over eat.
I hate those parties also, and have found that if it is a take your own piece kind of thing I'll take half a piece of cake, or if it's something that's offered and I really don't want to go over my cals for the day I'll say, "I just ate before we came, so I'm really not hungry," and usually that's true, I'll eat something better for me so I'm not starving and drooling over goodies.
Now that it sounds like you've got your plan figured out, I'm sure those days will be few and far between. Good luck!!
