Just found out about and starting an Alternate Day Diet... similar names: The Fast Diet, The 5:2 Diet, The Longevity Diet. Basic Premise is Eat normally one day and severely cut calories the next(at least 2 days per week.) Thought this would be great for me as this is not a "no end in sight" plan. It seems to be something you can do forever. Everyone chime in... Have you tried it? Research the different plans and see what you think

Been doing my version of this for several months with Friday as a water only fast day (more of a spiritual impetus than physical). The alternate days I switch around some, with the foundation being always aware of what and how much I eat and drink when I eat and drink it. Helps me to embrace the only time I have, the present.

I follow the 5:2 plan and it's great. I have limited calories 2 days a week (500/daily) and follow a reasonable diet 5 days a week. Supposedly there are health benefits too---lower cholesterol, better blood sugar. I won't know if I'm benefitting that way until I see the doctor in May.

I just started the 5:2 plan - like it a lot so far. Looking for vegetarian recipes for my "fast" days.

I eat hard boiled eggs, tuna, baked fish (swai is my favorite), salads, cottage cheese, lots of veggies and drink lots of water and tea. I split my calories between 3 meals (100/100/300) and 500 calories isn't a lot so I have yet to find complete dishes to cook.

Your results are great, mrspackrat! Congratulations! I've never tried swai. How do you prepare it? I also do hard boiled eggs or tuna, lots of veggies and salads with Walden Farms dressings (0 calories, 0 carbs).

On a fast day, I just put a little lemon, kosher salt, spray a baking sheet and it at 350-375 for about 15 minutes.

On a non-fast day, I pan sear it. Again, marinate in lemon and kosher salt for about 10-20 minutes (no more than 30). In a hot pan with EVOO, place fish (it's hot enough when it sizzles when you put it in) and add a pat of butter. Both of my kids LOVE it this way and it's such a tender, juicy fish that is way better than tilipia and cheaper. This week I'm going to make a mango salsa to place on top.

Just started the 5:2 diet this past week....today was my second fast day of 500 calories (Fasting Mondays and Fridays) and finding it not too bad to do. I lost 5lbs instantly and maintained since, don't expect it to be that good every day LOL. Not long enough to know if this will really work for me, I have only ever done Slimming World so this is quite a departure but love the 5 days not feeling guilty.

If you look at my food journal, you can see what I eat. I only track my fast days now, not my feed days.
