Good morning! My name is Linda. I fall into the category of loosing or more possible health risks. I carry most my weight on my middle, just like a bear, and my back .
I have hypothroid, HB, chlorestal, just plain old hypertension.
Would like to chat to others and have some support here.
Support is great when you have more then one.

Hi Linda,
I'm new to the group and to the site.

I just started a free/low gluten (wheat belly type)diet hoping to lose some weight but mainly for the other health benefits. I think I may have discovered one I hadn't expected. I took my first blood pressure reading since going on the diet and it was 101/57. I thought there must have been a machine malfunction and took another reading - almost as good at 108/59 so probably accurate. This is 10-20 points better than recent systole readings and about 10 diastole points better. I have no proof it was the low gluten (I am easing my way into this diet) but it may account for why I have been feeling somewhat better for several days without knowing quite why. I shall keep taking my BP to check.

I have read that some people have had reductions of cholesterol so perhaps you might like to investigate. I know that 'gluten free' products seem to cost more but with more and more people turning to a gluten free diet, the prices seem to coming down as more stores stock the goods. I am trying to do it without buying so much and just making better choices of nourishing and appealing foods. There are a lot of good suggestions here and elsewhere on the Internet.
Good luck and don't give up. Smile

Hi jellylava,
I have seen the book in the stores of wheat belly. I have read quite.a bit of gluten free too. I have been eating a lot more of fresh vegetables, fruit, and less breads and pasta. I have been doing ww. My blood pressure reading are down and I am feeling less sluggish, and bloated.
It's those last ten to 15 pounds that are hard. So, I am now swimming more, and walking the dogs more, they love that!
Glad your noticing a difference and feeling better. Keep up the good work too.

Oops, I weighed 144.7 July 2nd, and on sat. 20th, it was 140.7. My dr. Wants it to be 130 -125. That's been years since I was 130. Even my back and my front grew. What used to be flat sure isn't now. Middle age has hit.
Remarkable how time flies when we are having fun!

It's so frustrating isn't it? Many years ago I wanted to slim down & managed to get from 147 down to 118 over 9 months but even at that weight I had the tummy flab which I have had ever since the birth of my second child. I did that with exercise & calorie counting. These days it is so much harder. I know that with total dedication I might be able to keep slimming but life doesn't always allow total dedication. My hubby doesn't want to be on my diet & other social occasions offer temptation. My ladies group has b'fast every Friday at a local cafe. If I want to stick to my diet the only thing I can eat is fruit with yoghurt on it. So boring when the others are having French toast or pancakes. lol My diet is so new that my resolution is still strong but I know myself, as time passes I will want to deviate from the plan. So far, I am pleased to find that I am not one of those poor souls who absolutely crave bread & I love to fill up on lettuce or carrots. I think encouragement from our group will help us & we just have to guard against giving up because the last part is hard. Keep on trying Caliber1 and of course, the rest of the group! Smile

ah it is so good to share the pain. I have lost the same 14 lbs so many times over the years that (in the words of Joan Rivers) I should be dangling from a charm bracelet at this point and instead I still have another 10 - 14 lbs to go!
I have been counting calories using this site since last October and have lost 17 lbs in all....slowly but surely. The good thing I find now is that my appetite is actually smaller. I have the same amount of calories breakfast and lunch now as back then but the difference is that I am not starving anymore. when I go out I have one course and choose a salad or low fat/low calorie option and I manage to ignore the bread basket while waiting. I also have a banana before I go out just to keep my will power going. Maybe I have got sense at last. It is just too much effort to lose to be tempted to have a blow out. I continue to meet a friend for breakfast every few weeks and have the waffles, bacon and syrup as always.
Anyway maybe with support I will be able to keep going.
