Never had a weight problem and could eat all and anything I wanted until NOW!

52 years old and now on a low/no carb high protien diet. Some weight to lose, keep BP under control, lower cholesterol, ect. ect. A new chapter in my life Confused

Hoping to make new friends, get and be able to give moral support to others. Time for me to take control of my eating habits vs my eating habits taking control of me.

Let the fun begin!!

At some point I started to exercise so I could eat what I wanted. Now I have to exercise & watch what I eat. This getting older is a pain.

I started gaining weight in my 30s and for the past 20 years I have been overweight. I am 54 now. Last year at this time, I decided to do something about being overweight (since I can't do alot about the age thing!)it. I downloaded this app on my cell phone and started counting calories and excercise. It is a year later and I have lost 58 lbs! I have about 5-10 more to go, but it is definitely a lifestyle change!

Ya this getting old thing is a pain! I started gaining in my late 30's and decided when I turned 50 it was time to get serious so I could try to stay healthy. I don't have a lot to loose but would feel a lot more comfortable in my clothes if I could loose just 10 more pounds. I agree with Leslie, it is truly a lifestyle change.

Lynn, my story is much like yours!I was slim most of my life, and when I did gain (esp after my 4 kids), I lost easily. Menopause brought 50 stubborn pounds. I did WW for 10 mos and only lost 10 lbs, so now I have started Atkins and I lost 5.4 lbs in my first week! My usual weight is 150 and I'm at 185 now. My goal is 160 because that is what my trainer calculated I should weigh since I am very muscular (he did metabolic stuff and fat analysis and all). Good luck and nice to meet you!

Hi Everyone! I am here to make myself accountable, loose the weight, get healthy, and share success and ideas.
I am 51 year old female. I quit smoking 5 months and 16 days ago, and when I did that my metabolism went for a crash. I believe it was already low anyways after turning 50, the smoking just masked that. I go to the gym six day and work out for 90 mins. Sometimes I go twice If I want to attend a class.
I have 20-30 lbs to loose, or how I would rather measure it is 3 clothing sizes. I am presently 181 pounds I am tall 5'10" and my weight distributes all overSad. I have done this before in terms of the working out, so I know I can do it, it's just getting over the metabolic resistance I seem to be experiencing. I had a full hysterectomy when is was 29 and I take hormones. I also had a complete thyroidectomy which I replace with a natural hormone. All my hormones are balanced sooooo nothing should be stopping me.

New here too. Trying to make myself accountable and record what I am eating, losing/gaining, exercising rather than burying my head in the sand and saying "I'll start again next week" every few days!! I lost 50lbs in 8 months three years ago, so I know I can do it, but it gets harder every year!

I can relate, I find if I start out by working out Monday morning that sets the pattern for me for the rest of the week. However it's all about making sure that I do get up and exercise, because if I don't then it turns into "I'll start tomorrow" syndrome.

Hello all! This is my first day using Fatsecret. I wanted to use Feb. 15 as my first day of tracking, but I have not found a way to make that happen. Since that day, I have lost around 8 lbs since mid-February. I am trying to lose a total of 35 lbs or more by the end of the year. I had my first pregnancy at age 40. Gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She is 16 now. After I gave birth, I lost all but about 4-5 lbs of the baby weight, but when I went back to work, I gained it all back(!). Way back in the 1980s I went on WW and lost plenty of weight, but I ended up with allergies, heel spurs, and dry skin. So I haven't wanted to do that again if I don't have to. In a recent article, Dr. Mercola said that we should get 50-70% of our calories in fat, and I know that carbs (and especially bread) are my downfall, so I'm minimizing that. Also, Dr. Schwarzbein says we should get plenty of protein and fat, so I'm trying to make that happen. I have been tracking my food and exercise on some other sites because I like being able to see the nutrient levels I'm eating and supplement if necessary. I also like being able to see how many calories I burn while doing various activities.

Thank you so much for your post. I too am 52 and all of a sudden gained 10 stubborn pounds. Looking forward to being part of the forum.
