Today I turn 42. I am not happy or sad to be 42. To me it is just another number. What I am happy about is what I was finally able to do today. I lost weight! I have been gaining weight back very quickly because of being laid up with my knee and not being able to do any exercising, but today is a whole new me! I lost 3 pounds this week!! I am so happy!!

Congrats on the weight loss!

Not everybody feels that way about birthdays. Personally I don't think about them much at all. I've made it through most of the day before being reminded by someone else that it was my birthday. That's happened more than once actually. In my mind I'll be "43 and 364/365ths" on the day before and "44" on my next birthday. IOW, one day older... not a year older.

Happy happy birthday Tina,

Congrats on the weight loss 3 lbs that's great. I am very proud of you. I know what you mean about birthdays I try not to make a big deal about my birthday, I will be 47 this year and that is kind of making me uneasy getting closer to 50 but I intend on being in the best shape I have ever been by the time I turn 50. I hope you had a good day today. Did your kids help you celebrate. Well time to start getting ready for work have to go into the office tonight, say a prayer for me it is me and 2 new nurses tonight, so it will be a challenge. Have a good night and will catch up with you tomorrow or if I have a chance later tonight

Thanks guys!! I did not do anything today. I think that is what I liked most. I did however, make carbless meatballs. They were good for a first round and made up recipe. A little over done but I think it was because I put to many eggs in it. Not sure. will tweak the recipe next time I make it. You know I am not afraid of getting older. I am afraid of the way the world looks at you because you are~

Happy Birthday Tina! I'm glad you got a day to do nothing.

How did the interviews go?

Sheryl, ever feel like when you get in there you talk like old friends, laugh, and just do what you can do in order to get the job. Then you go home and never get the call you so desperately want? Well that has been me for the last several interviews. I have a few more coming up. Each job that I am looking at just keeps getting closer to what I really want but God keeps closing the door. I know there is a reason, but I have such a hard time with let go and let God. I will find the job I am meant to spend the rest of my career in. It just wasn't this week. Thank you for asking.

One thing I've found really makes a difference is following up with a Thank you note. I've been in my current job for 8 years but I remember them telling me it came down to two really qualified candidates and they were about to flip a coin when my thank you not arrived.

I had an "informal" phone interview yesterday and I'm excited about the prospect. It would be a step down from my current job, but a step sideways into the type of job I want. I like I told my interviewer, even if you're going really fast, if you're on the wrong road you'll never get to where you want to do. This job would put me on the right road.

Thanks Sheryl! I do that for every job I really want. My mom always pushed that ever since my first job when I was 15. I really hope things work out for you. I feel that way with the prospect job that I have not interviewed for yet. I hope to hear back next week for a formal interview. Maybe it is what you say. What is it that you put in your note when you write them?

I keep it pretty simple. I thank them for their time, then I remind them of a couple of my skills that I will bring to the table that are specific to the job and I try to end with something personal that we connected on, like at one interview I made a joke about being the "cool mom" and the dude's eyes lit up and he said he was the cool dad, so I said that "us cool parents need to stick together." He is one of my best friends now. He comes here every year to take me out for a birthday lunch and I go to Chicago for his birthday to take him out.
