tomag, Really, we all are battling the weight issues and a lot of us have many medical problems and most of us have been battling for most of our lives. We are all here for you and to support each other. If you are new to this site, know that journaling is good for our souls. Even if you just ramble about the day, get it out. Make sure you get down every day what you eat. Visuals are always good so you can see what you are eating and there is support out there to help you along. I have high blood pressure, severe depression, morbidly obese, gout, and on the verge of diabetes. Please use this site and the people here for information and support. We are all here for you!!!

We can do this if we take it day by day and step by step~

Take Tina's words to heart. Regardless of any other differences we may have we are all doing something that is, by all counts, hard to do. We're trying to change ourselves, our thinking, how we relate to food and our priorities in life. No small task!

You'll find inspiration and compassion here. You'll see people with the same struggles. You may also find that you get called out on it when you are fooling yourself. Smile All of that can be helpful.

I know what you mean about the cold. It's 17 degrees right now and heading towards 5. While it isn't as nice as a walk on a cool spring day, you could hit up the local mall if you have one. When it first opens in the morning you'll probably find a whole bunch of people making a walking circuit around the mall.

On days like this, I dress up in socks, wool socks, long johns, sweats and then pants, a t-shirt, a long sleeve shirt and a heavy jacket, a heavy scarf, face-mask and mittens. Finally a pair of boots and I'm ready to spend some time outside.

The point being... look at yourself and decide if the weather really is stopping you. Or is it just a convenient excuse? Only you know the answer to that question.

Hi tomag,

Tina and Round are right. We all know that when we want to exercise we do, and when we don't, we are making an excuse. I've actually found that walking in place is a harder workout for my body than real walking. I have a game for my Wii called Walk it Out and I try to spend an hour a day, broken up into 10 or 15 minute chunks, playing the game. There are usually places to walk even when the weather is bad. You can go to the mall or my favorites, Sam's Club and Costco. Where there is a will, there is a way.

But please don't think I'm preaching. I wear a pedometer and my average daily steps are about 11,000, but I still have days where it is a low and 3000. It is already noon here and I only have 900 for the day so far.

And when you have a bad day, or even a bad week, remember that you don't have to keep going in that direction. Each moment of every day you can decide if you want to be healthier or not. This includes every decision you make on what to eat and every time you decide to sit on the couch. You can choose to eat healthy an you can choose to get up and move. So just because you had a huge cinnamon roll for breakfast, that isn't an excuse to ruin the rest of your day.

It is typical for over weight people to think in "all or nothing" mentality. If I eat unhealthy on Monday and Tuesday, I tend to give myself permission to eat unhealthy the rest of the week and start again on Monday. Obviously this is not the best path for me...

But know that you are not alone and even if our struggles aren't exactly the same, we are all working through them and are here for you.

Ever shrinking!

What great words or wisdom from everyone, I agree totally with them all and like you I am battleing health issues and have a difficult time excersising but I am making a real effort right now to at least walk 5-10 min a day, that is about all I can do right now because of my joint pain but at least I am doing that. Every day is a new day and presents new challenges but we can do this just one day at a time
