I have been working so hard to lose. I reached 187, for being 5'10, that was great!! I fit into 32 waist jeans and looked good. Then I started eating at night. Its like an addiction. I want that cereal, then the M & M's and the sweets, and by midnight I go to sleep. Its so frustrating, I gained 50 pounds. It kills me to have gone so low and maintained for a year and a half, and then boom, here I am again working hard to lose again because I lost sight of what I had to do. It is painful to be honest. I have gone two night without eating at night (though a couple glasses of wine shouldn't be bad I hope). Anyway, I am new to fat secret, and I will succeed again.

I work 2nd shift so its kind of hard for me to not eat at night.

I hear you man! That has been the death of me. I do good for a few weeks then back to eating at night. I tend to eat while watching baseball games or movies or the news....My weight fluctuates up and down depending on my eating at night.

Eating at night is my biggest downfall. My husbands too! So we've tried to break the habit by chewing gum, drinking flavored cold and hot teas. But the biggest help for me was to get jelly belly's. When i'm really craving something and can't/don't want to resist it's not the end of the world to have a small handful. You can get any flavor you want so if you crave chocolate or fruity stuff or ice creamy flavors it is all available. I count out just a few...savor them and then head off to a project. I always want to eat more when I watch TV. Good LUCK!!!

As a full-time student with a very demanding job I often have to eat at night. I don't think the time of day is that important, to be honest. Calories are calories - regardless of when you take them in. I think it's WHAT you eat at night. Instead of sweets and treats and snacks I just eat something healthy. Last night my snack was cucumber slices with ranch. Another night it was a few pieces of turkey, cheese and mayo wrapped in romaine leaves. I'm still losing, so I really do believe that quality, not time is a factor.
...She said I'm 2 cheeseurgers away form fat! Well, let me put down the cheeseburger and start moving!

Eating at night sucks! I do it and its tough to get away from. I try to feed my family around 5-6 in the evening and i am still up at midnight, so there is six hours without food. I eat whatever i can get my hands on and conveniently the tortilla chips are on a low shelf, haha. What i have been doing lately is setting my watch timer to go off every three hours. so if i'm up i eat. If its close to bed time ill eat something low carb so its filling and i can burn it when i sleep. The best advice i can give is try to limit yourself to what it is you eat at night. I eat yogurt or i make a smoothie with milk,. But if you're really jonesin' than have some oatmeal berries. i freeze my yogurt so i get the ice cream taste and it definitely helps. Hi there, I know what you are talking about...I am coming from being 220 pounds and now I am down to 189, my goal is 159. What I can tell u about eating at night, at least what it had worked for me is to include some serious exercise in your daily activities. I use to do road biking and run very long distances...participate in as many events as possible...but going back to your question, when you do some serious biking or running you can feel how hard is to burn the calories that you eat..then that is a motivation for me to DO not eat at night when I am not working out...on the other hand, if you happen to do it, just exercise so you keep the balance...hang in there...

I can totally understand. My biggest problem right now is the late night munchies. Almost every night on my way to bed I stop off in the kitchen and start snacking. I know this is a horrible thing to do, but I can't stop myself. I can be good all day, but around 11pm I find myself with a box of crackers or a few slices of cheese. I'm not hungry... I just want to snack. Today I'm making a new goal to not enter the kitchen on the way to the bedroom.

New to the site and the group, but this is EXACTLY why I'm here. I'm 6'4" and in 2004 I was at my heaviest at 245. Did WW and got down to 185. Within a year, I was back at 210 or so. Back on WW and down to 195. Then up to 215. Then back to 200.

Now I'm at 215 again and it's the dang nighttime munchies that got me back here. I can pound a (substantial) bowl of ice cream, a bag of microwave popcorn, and too many Cheez-Its between DVR'd episodes of Fringe, Flash Forward, and Man vs. Wild.

I am new to the site but not to trying to lose weight as many posts Ive just read. Night time snacking is one thing I am continuing to battle because it is just as we have said, a habit, a mindless one at that because we are usually concentrated on something like TV or just plain tired and doing something to keep ourselves distracted. I read a book on mindless eating and different tricks to help combat it and the some things that help on the munchies at night are if you are tired you need to rest bypass all areas with food. Proximity is key also so keep "snacky" stuff far enough away from where you are that getting it isnt easy. And finally, switch the habit of munching with an opposite totally unrealated habit like reading, writing, play a game etc.
