Socializing in your 20s is a way of life, so at times you'll find yourself 'going out to drinks' with a group of friends.

Any ideas on 'go-to' drinks to order that won't break the calorie bank?

I found information on wine (via FitSugar ), but no one want to be the buzz-kill who orders wine when everyone's having cocktails.

For hard alcohol, try to only drink the clear liquors, the darker ones have a lot more sugar. For mixers I'd say diet soda or any light juice they may have.

As for beer, I found a website with a breakdown of calories/carbs
"It takes 4 weeks for you to notice your body changing, 8 weeks for your friends, and 12 weeks for the rest of the world. Give it 12 weeks, don't quit!"

Thanks, Stpierrem1. I'll try to come up with actual drinks I can order! Smile I always blank when I'm asked what I'm having!

Any type of flavored vodka and tonic is a good or whiskey and diet coke. Also, Bud Select is 55 calories and Miller has a 64 calorie beer. I am not too sure about wine but I'm sure whites have lower calories than reds... not by much.

Good thinking, Senorita05 - I've found vodka tonics usually only have around 95 - 215 calories, depending on the size and whether you're using diet tonic. Thanks!

I am trying to get ready for Spring Break (I'll be on a beach all week) and I want to look thin and toned. I have been counting my calories (staying between 1200-1400 calories a day) and eating a lot of proteins and produce. I have also been working out more- mixing strength training with cardio.
I was down 7 pounds (14 to go) from my start weight two weeks ago. The two weekends in between, I have gained 3 or 4 pounds back, and then lost it during the week days again.
I have decided to not drink during the month of February, and to only drink on a couple of upcoming special occasions in March before I go to the beach. I feel like drinking and gaining weight back is not being fair to myself and all the hard work I put in during the week.
Now, my friends are asking me WHY I am doing this...but soon they will be asking me HOW I did it!!

Wine is low cal. a regular glass of wine (about 4oz to 60z) is 100 cal or less, and you don't tend to have more than 4 of those so I think that's the best choice if hanging out. If not stick to two to 3 vodka tonics (depending on your cal intake max) and lastly if you can bear the taste of light beers, stick to two or max 3 of those and you should be good. Make the drinks last!

I was so happy to find a low cal sangria recipe the other day! Took that to the beach, it was heaven.... I haven't had a beer in all of february. No beer or pizza (my favorites) but It's gonna be worth it.

I drink champagne, or a straight shot (no mixed). I steer CLEAR of mixed drinks. Sometimes I indulge by adding sugar free red bull or diet soda. I usually mix with water and fresh lime.

Raspberry or blueberry vodka, soda water (not tonic water, that's pretty much the same as soda), twist of lime, and if you absolutely need a little extra flavor just a splash of cranberry. There are about 60 calories in an ounce of flavored vodka, standard drink is around and ounce and a half so w/o the cranberry, this drink will put you at about 90 calories. So you can have 2-3 and still not go over the top. I used to think shots were the way to go, but essentially, you're still getting the calories from the liquor, but you consume them quicker! So I'd stick to lighter mixed drink options.
