I weigh 131 lbs and to a lot of people that's small but at barely 5'3 every pound shows and in all the wrong spots! Any shorties out there who feel my pain? Any suggestions for petite women trying to lose weight?

Hi! I was in the same boat as you (5' even, 128 lbs) about 6 months ago, and I have managed to lose about 13 pounds (almost at my goal of 110!!). I definitely feel your pain because even after I started working out regularly almost a year ago I wasn't losing weight for the first couple of months. Since I have been more completely tracking my food intake using this site (I try to stay around 1200-1500 calories a day) and bumped my exercise up to 5x a week (45 minutes to an hour in the morning), I lost the weight relatively quickly. For exercise motivation I started out with a few sessions with a trainer to get myself into a groove, and I have since been taking 2 exercise classes a week, doing one additional day of the elliptical or treadmill, and then doing some sort of lifting or conditioning workout for the last 2 days.

I hope that helps!

Yep. I feel you. I'm almost 5'3 and was 137 lbs. Worst thing is I have medium built so I felt like a giant. With hard work I got to 118 lbs and I'm working toward 105 lbs. Chin up. You can do it. Keep pushing Smile

That's the one downside to being petite Sad

Try watching what you eating and really targeting trouble spots when you're working out. Tone those muscles. The more muscle you have, the faster you burn fat! Smile

I am 5'2 and currently 138. My goal is to make it to 125 for right now and then eventually get myself back down to around 115. I have had 5 kids and after the 4th went through a slump in life and made it to 192. That was scary to even consider 200. So I started losing weight and made it to 143 only to get back to 190 pregnant. I had to work it off again but I am making it! Since I have had five kids I feel like I have great determination when I put my mind to things. I have always made it back to around 140 after pregnancies with some work, but I am smaller now then I have been in almost 8 years. That is an awesome thing. If I ever make it back to 115 I will probably cry because I haven't been that size sine I had my first child almost 10 years ago. It is a challenging journey. But I hope to be a very active mother in the life of my children!

Jeez y'all Ladies are making me feel bad. I'm 5 even and weight 154 at my heaviest i was 202 9mo preggers. I just made it out of the 20s with 25-30 lbs to lose. My goal is where most of you guys are trying to get out of. I'm aiming for 135 for now and then to see where i go from there. I do not want to be too thin. I have a pear shaped body, a plump butt and huge boobs and would love to keep those. ( so does my almost husband.) i just want to be happy in my own skin, which i so am not right now.

Hi guys,

I'm 5'2 and 138lbs. I was at 152lbs last October and have managed to lose about 14lbs so far. I have a pear shaped figure and the first place I seem to lose my weight is from my bust (which is small to begin with!) so that sucks lol. I'm glad to hear there are other shorties out there in the same boat as me.

What has helped me lose is counting calories. Try to stay within 1200-1500 and working out. It is eye opening to see how many calories you consume a day without realizing it. I'm hispanic and didn't realize Mexican food has so many high calorie and carb meals. So looking at labels and serving sizes has helped as well as looking for low-fat, whole grain, and sugar free brands.
