Gastroesophageal Anti-reflux Diet. This diet is designed my doctors to reduce acid reflux. If you suffer from GERD you may be helped by this diet. Fats relax the esophagus and proteins constrict it. by lowering fats and eliminating other foods that irritate the esophagus, the patient should experience relief of GERD symptoms.

 How To Follow Gastroesophageal Anti-reflux Diet:

You should have no more the 45 grams of fat per day, 15 per meal. Also eliminate acidic foods such as tomatoes, citrus fruits, carbonated beverages, caffeine, chocolate, and spicy foods. Snacking between meals is discouraged as all eating causes acid to be secreted in the stomach. The goal is to reduce the excess production of acid and create an esophogeal environment conducive to reducing reflux. Do not overeat and wait 3 hours after eating before lying down.

Debgolfer's top tips

1.Guidelines include maximum of 45 grams of fat per day with 15 grams per meal. All meats should be lean, cheeses should be low or non-fat.
2.Snacks between meals are discouraged as all food results in stomach acid. Pretzels
3.Participants should not eat citrus, tomatoes or other acidic foods. Also not allowed are chocolate, caffeine, carbonated beverages, alcoholic beverages.
4.No more than 3 egg yolks per week. No fried foods. No spicy foods.
