How To Follow Raving Rabbit's Healthy Eating Plan:

3 meals a day (always and without fail!)

drink lots of water and/or herbal teas.

Eat a small bowl of cereal daily (try to make a healthy choice), with either semi-skimmed milk or low-fat yogurt. Don't get hung up about weighing/calories. A small bowl means a small bowl!

Eat a portion of chicken or fish daily, cooked without excessive oil and skin removed. Be sensible on amounts, eg. a chicken breast, 1 trout, 1 small can tuna.

Eat as many vegetables and salad ingredients as you like. However do limit yourself with pulses/legumes etc. such as sweetcorn to a small handful, as these are higher in sugar and therefore calories.

Fruit is not limited - with the exception of bananas, avacados and the like (very good for you, but higher in calories)

Only weigh yourself once a week at the same time. Don't be tempted to keep jumping on and off the scales. You will only fluctuate and end up putting yourself off the whole idea.

Keep a diary of everything you eat and drink. If it helps for the first few days, try to count the calories where possible. Aim to be eating about 1200 per day.

It's that dreadful word exercise! I hate it, I loathe it, but I know I have to do it. My failsafe is doing the housework with the stereo blasting out rock-music full blast. I sing along at the top of my voice, and move at the same speed as the music.

Fat and forty should just about cover everything! I'm called Jan, but my nickname is Rabbit (probably because I talk a lot - well that's the reason I'm giving anyway!) I want to be forty and fabulous! (and fit back into my old clothes again) ...

rabbit's top tips

1.Make sure you eat 3 meals a day. I normally loathe breakfast, but am making sure I have a small bowl of cereal with yogurt to get my metabolism going.
2.Try not to eat too late at night! It's hard I know, but your body will thank you for it.
3.Drink lots of water between meals. It's so good for you. Your skin will thank you for it, and you won't feel as hungry.
4.Try to avoid alcohol wherever possible. If you simply can't go without - my odd treat is to keep a bottle of vodka in the freezer, and pour a double measure (make sure you measure it) over ice. Only 100 cals. Does the trick -but it's a rare treat.
5.Try to cook as much as possible using fresh ingredients and herbs/spices. It's so much tastier than ready-bought meals and doesn't take much longer. Once you're in the mindset to do it, you'll enjoy your food so much more.
6.If eating out - DO NOT EAT FROM THE BREAD BASKET! Order a steak, fish or grilled chicken with salad; and ask for a low-fat dressing. If they can't provide one, it's not a restaurant worth going to! Say no to a pudding, then pinch a TASTE from your partner's; why should you miss out on all the fun.

About / History

Over the years I've been to Weight Watchers, Slimming World, Rosemary Conley classes; and whilst some of their ideas are good, I find them very limiting. I think it's far better to think about the ingredients and how good they are for you than how many calories can I shove in me a day! Also I want to get used to a way of eating that I can continue with after my weight loss.
