Poet60's own diet

This is more of a healthy lifestyle than a diet. I think it is important to figure out what you can live with in the long haul. I have never had success with radical, fast weight loss diets, and eventually I gained it all back, and then some. These suggestions are practical and easy to incorporate into a family routine. If paired with the fatsecret calorie counter, it is possible to keep on track. This is my common sense approach.

How To Follow Poet60's own diet:

Do the best you can every day.
Use the fatsecret calorie counter/food diary.
Add an exercie you actually like.
Watch your portions.
Stay away from fast food and fried food.
Remember, changing your lifestyle is tough, talk about it with friends and family.
Ask for their support and encouragement.
Think the best of yourself rather than the worst-- we all slip and it does nothing to help you if you punish yourself.
Slow and steady!

Poet60's top tips

1.Exercise with a friend. It makes such a difference. I don't like exercise and this has kept me going.
2.Don't stress about a slow loss. Slow is better than no loss.
3.If others in household eat foods you want to stay away from, tell them, but don't lecture or make them feel bad. This is about you, not them.

About / History

I have tried to loose weight so many times, and I always fell off of the plan. I tried Atkins, Weight Watchers, Soup Diet, Dash Diet, and the Heart Diet. I have a hard time following a rigid food schedule where amounts are measured and certain foods suggested for certain days. I now know that I need a lifestyle plan that I can follow over time. I eat with family and friends, and have an active life. I want to enjoy the social aspect of food (I'm an Italian girl who grew up with food as the central point of every gathering). What I realize is that I need to be "present" when I'm eating, not zoned out. This keeps me aware of the food I put into my mouth. When dining with family and friends, I can make healthy food choice and limit portions. Somehow, this was a huge relief. What I added recently (in the last 6 months) was an exercie routine. I chose activities I really like (Tai Chi, QiGong, and pool classes) because I don't like to exercise. I tried the treadmill for about a month and was bored with it. Now, I do activities that I enjoy and eat with common sense.
