dobies1's top tips

1.The first week your body is detoxing. You will crave watch you is most harmful to you because the antibodies are fighting back. I had a headache for the first week (turns out that's what gluten does to me). HANG IN THERE! It's worth it!
2.Remember the seven foods to eliminate: Corn, Sugar and Artificial Sweeteners, Peanuts, Gluten, Soy, Eggs, Dairy.
3.Check labels carefully. First thing I check is for sugar. It should have 5 grams or less per serving. Then I check for the seven foods and their alternate names. I also check for Monosodium Glutamate and the word hydrogenated. Those are out for me. Make it fun, like a scavenger hunt for good foods.
4.Keep all 7 foods out completely the first 3 weeks. Your body is detoxing. If they sneak in, your body won't heal and cycle 2, when you test things back in, won't work right. Your goal is to find out what foods work for you and what work against you.
5.JJ Virgin sells her own products, but you don't have to buy them. The book is invaluable though. So full of useful information that helps you understand how and why this works, has recipes, and is super easy to read and well thought out. We get our pea protein from Amazon.
6.Set a start date and prep your kitchen beforehand. We started buying the new different foods a couple weeks ahead so it wasn't cost prohibitive. Clean out your cupboards and start looking at alternate shopping sources - health food stores, health food section of your favorite store, Trader Joes is a great place for unsweetened coconut milk! Compare prices. In our area, we've found grass fed ground beef ranging from $5.99 a pound to $8.99 a pound. Shop around!
