Good advice! Lol! This challenge is what I've needed lately. Summertime parties have been killing my weight loss attempts. Here's to a sober month!

don't you gain the weight right back when you start drinking again? That is what's kept me from abstinence. I love my wine and I will never give it up completely so is the challenge worth it?

Alcohol is the only thing that knocks me off track. 4 weeks without it will do me lots of good.

This is ridiculous. I stopped drinking 18 months ago (completely -- no alcohol, no wine) - I have also been on Atkins diet for the past two months. Results of alcohol -- 0 loss, gained only 10 kg. Atkins for the past two months: lost 2 kg. in two months! I will pass this challenge by since I have already stopped drinking.

RichardNK,

Low carb is actually a little tricky. A few things where I see people fail:

1. High fat content
2. All meats are not treated the same. Example: My local BBQ joint has an extremely high carb content.
3. Low carb processed food such as "atkins" bars are terrible
4. Sugar alcohol (read the label) alcohol is alcohol as was told by fitness guru and Kenisioligist.
5. Calories count (A lot will argue on this) at age 42 I went from 28% body fat to 6% in 3 months. I went low carb (and researched what I ate), no alcohol, recorded everything on here. Walked 1/2 hour a day and did work out a bit.

Things like turkey bacon & sausage, pork skins etc should be avoided. When ordering out say a steak or chick as for no msg and/or butter. Some people compensate low carb with high fat... dangerously high fat. Not good at all. There are many good fats like fish, that promote fat burning. Atkins isn't free willy on calories and fat. <-- # 1 mistake

Well I was averaging about 10 beers a week. Strangely, I actually prefer regular ice tea. A cold beer in the fridge was simply convenient. This is my first challenge, looks like fun.

For me, I'm in the same boat as DarleneW - Alcohol is the main thing that kills my weight loss attempts. I've limited myself to 2 glasses a week since I started this 'get fit and healthy' challenge that I've set for myself, but cutting it out entirely is just as good an idea.

For me though, this will only be a 3.5 week challenge. I see both my sisters for the first time in several months on 28 July, and I am going to share a glass or two of vino with them. Challenge or no challenge!!

Good luck everyone!
