Today is my 12th week eating low-carb. For the past few weeks, I've been staying as close to 20 net carbs as possible. If I do go over, it's only with low-carb food, and never over 30 net grams. I feel more comfortable about my body now than I have in over a decade. I'm not in any rush to lose a certain amount of pounds, I'm more concentrating on changing the way my brain thinks about food and really changing my eating habits. The pounds that are coming off in the meantime are a really nice bonus, though Very Happy

I also stick to around 20 net carbs and make sure I don't go over 30. When I do go over 20, its usually for extra veggies... I do occasionally treat myself to low carb ice cream but still do not ever go over 30.

I keep it at 20 net carbs and under, almost all of them come from veggies. With the stray net carb coming from a dairy product.

Thanks Ive been keeping under 20 grams except when I was sick (head cold) ate a few clementines (wow I miss them) since 9-10, I still have a whole lot to lose so Im not ready/afraid to go out of induction. I was never a sweet/soda/salt adder/goodie eater. Im trying to reverse a fatty liver but dont know how that's going to work @ my age. I tried low cal did not work & I cant exercise, so Atkins is the only diet that made the scale move. My doc is worried about the fat so I dont know how to lower that & still lose either. I read all the post here which are great & am wondering how I can tweek induction a little w/o gaining weight.

Kim, I would say that you would need to do some trial and error experiments with adding different foods back to your diet a little at a time. I haven't tried that, though, so I'm not a pro at that by any means lol. I found some information about low-carb with a fatty liver. Looks like lots of info and suggestions. Maybe something that could help you Smile:

I can see that my carbs are usually always too high for a low carb diet. No more apples for now. Am going to aim for 20g carbs also. Thanks.

I think as long as we remember that some of these (such as apples) aren't restricted forever, then we can get through it. The phases are designed to help us lose weight faster, which lets admit, when you lose weight at a very slow pace, its discouraging!

I won't be reintroducing fruits until I am about 15 pounds away from goal except for the occasional berries because they are the lowest carb but even when I do eat berries, I do not let myself get above 30 net carbs.

I agree with angie 100%. We learn as we go and what works for some doesn't work for others.

Thank you all !! TY so much Angie for all your links !! Having a problem /w posting for the day thou, but I was pretty good!! I did see the ladder, but I'm so far from doing that right now. I still find it hard to believe it was caused by high cholesterol when I was taking meds for it. I think that the weight gain was not caused by any food, my body just stopped burning fat & metabolism stopped, BC I also had menopausal symptoms that I hadn't had in 5 years & stopped smoking the year before. So here I am, but Im seeing loss /w this diet & trying hard to keep to it as best I can. It's hard for me BC I never was on a diet before this, the low cal/no loss was a big disappointment. My life is so stressful as it is, so this weight just added to it. Im glad so have found such a great site /w great ppl. Ty again !!

You're welcome, Kim Smile You know, there's so many different things that can affect our bodies and our weight, so you may be right. I know how discouraging it is to be trying so hard and not see any results, especially if this is the first time you've tried to change your eating habits. You've been sick, too, and with all the stress, it does make things more difficult. But I have faith that you'll get it figured out and start seeing more losses soon, then the stress of the weight will be lifted! Smile

Angie you are so full of good advice and very motivating for everyone!
I try to stick around 20 net carbs too, Sometimes I might be a little under 20 and another day a little over, this does not affect weight loss.
I do have berries occasionally and sometimes a few nuts like almonds or brazil nuts-but I stress not regularly.

I try very hard to stay as close to 20 net carbs as possible. If I go over it's no more than 25/day. Angie, Linda and Christie's information has been wonderful help in getting started with Atkins and making a great change! I am still so happy that everyone is so active in this group and supportive of one another!
