The normal mind would think "SALAD" is good for you... I used to try to eat a salad instead of a slice of pizza or a sub at school. After looking at the CALORIES that are in one tea spoon of ranch dressing, I never want to eat a salad again.

The only problem is... I love salad. Is there another dressing that is healthier or a good replacement? Sad

Anything that is oil based is usually much better for you. I try to stay away from anything that looks creamy. Try any of the Newman's Own "Lighten Up" varieties. They are really yummy!

I'm a big creamy dressing fan, and I LOVE the Bolthouse Farms Creamy Yogurt dressings. They have a ranch, a blue cheese, a thousand island, and a caesar parmesan (sooo good), among others. They range from 45-80 calories for 2 tbsp. You can get them in the refrigerated part of the produce section. One caveat--they can be hard to find because not all grocery stores have them. This website tells you where to get them: http://www.bolthouse.com/store.aspx

Hope this helped!

I've found that if I make my own dressing that it's a lot lower in calories. but personally I like taking a little (LIGHT) ranch dressing, mixing it with a little olive oil and dipping my fork into it instead of pouring it over my salad. so much less calories and the taste is in every bite!
good luck all!

if I'm on the go, like at school, work, grabbing a bite with friends, etc, i carry kraft dressing packets in my purse. Yeah, i know! it sounds silly, and my friends make fun of me, but they are only 25 calories for the whole packet. They're canola and olive oil based [the two healthiest vegetable oils] so what little fat they have is healthy fats that will actually help the body absorb the vitamins in salad :]
you can find them at most super markets next to the 'light' dressings. If you're set on ranch, they do make a light ranch one that has 4.5 grams of fat, which is reasonable for a light creamy dressing.

I like to use balsamic vinegar mixed with dijon mustard and a little splenda.
Try it!
