On this thread, feel free to ask any questions or post any problems you may have concerning meals/snacks, weight-loss issues (such as stalls), or anything regarding the Induction Phase.

I just put in everything I ate yesterday and had an interesting observation. I thought that hamburger is all protein and fat. Is it really true that a hamburger (nothing added and no bun) is 52 carbs? This can't be right.

I asked my question above and then went on a search. The data base must include a bun, because when I put in ground beef cooked I come out with 0 carbs.

Yeah, you've really gotta watch those food entries in the Food Database. Most of them are entered by members like you and I and sometimes there are errors. Also, a lot of times, the nutritional values change over the years. Ground beef should have 0 carbs Smile I enter about 90% of the food I eat daily into the Database myself. That way I know for sure that the values are correct. It takes a little time in the beginning, but after you start doing it, it gets easier. Since we all kinda tend to eat the same foods over and over, once you've entered it, there will be a link to it on your Food Diary page and you can just click it and enter how much of it you ate.

I have a question... this is the one area of logging food that always throws me off. I have a digital scale and I use that to get the most accurate measurements of my food.

Today I had 3 oz of raw onion that I sauteed to go into my hamburger salad. Once it was done cooking, it had cooked down to an oz. I always thought that the counts would be the same but when I entered the different versions, cooked vs. raw... I got different amounts.

cooked 1 oz= 1.84 net carbs
raw 3 oz= 5.62

When I do spinach, the raw and cooked amounts usually have about the same carb counts. Thats almost a difference of 4 net carbs in the onions and that can make a big difference at the end of the day. Just not sure which one to log....

Hi Christie,

I came across the same issue before - I have to find where I read the information, but it has been said that you should document the cooked weight (amount in oz) of your food, that is where you will be more accurate.. When you cook down veggies it releases water, that is why the amount is sodifferent. I will find the reference.. Smile

I always had problems entering onions, too. It drove me absolutely insane lol. This is what I finally decided to do. I weigh the onions raw, in grams, and then use the count listed under "Onions" - "100g". You can actually use either of the measure counts you spoke about. If 3 oz. raw onions = 5.62, then that count divided by 3 would be pretty much the same, 1.87 for 1 oz. Just weigh them and count them the same way every time Smile

The only problem I have with weighing them cooked, is that I have no idea what they're gonna cook down to lol. I may have wanted more onions than that in my dish, so then I'd have to cook more onions and weigh them again lol. I don't really use a large quantity of onions in things anymore. I've found that even a little bit gives the food that onion flavor. Trying to teach myself that I don't need a TON, just a taste Smile

I don't know if it's right or not, but I always use the raw counts (b/c it's easier), regardless of whether or not I'm going to cook the vegetable no matter what veg I'm eating. I figure if you're just loosing water in the cooking process the carb count would be the same (or at least have a negligible change). Now if I was trying to calculate the nutritional value of the food (i.e. vitamins and minerals), that would be a different story.

Hi all I have a ???

Are we updating our progress daily?? I'm speaking of the mini-challenges.. I see on the pie chart where some have failed and some successful - wasn't too sure how we're doing this challenge..

When I say successful and failed I'm not speaking of 1 person in general, I just didn't know if we're updating daily..

I also asked this question in the other challenge just for some advise..Thank you.

Not sure BBD I think it's a weekly weigh in but you can do it more often if you want to???

My ticker is not working and the comments I leave on the challenge questions don't come up, I get an error message- I'm fed up of messaging Fatseret!

Yes, you're correct, Linda. I did set it up to weigh-in and report at the end of each week, but you can do it at any time Smile My ticker still isn't updating, either :/

My ticker and my weigh in's weren't updating so I logged into the Australia site and took my ticker off and then put it back on and weighed in over there and it updated everything on the US side.

Hi Christie - I couldn't find your onion question again to save my life. I weigh and count raw because when they cook down the only thing they lose is water.

Hi Everyone,

I want to drink something other than water and tea. Is unsweetened almond milk allowed during induction? (It is without sugar.)Question

Hi, Tammie again. I ate two Sabatino's smoked mozzarella with artichokes & garlic chicken sausage. I just found out that they have 1g of sugar in them, which means I had 2g of sugar today! Is this really going to set my two day's of progress? Sad

Hi Figure26,

I do believe Almond Milk is good on induction because Christie suggested that I have almond milk in my coffee instead of creamer..

So that would be a yes.. Smile
